Haha, well, you're welcome. I just like how straight faced serious it comes across.

Oh and I see that was your first post. Welcome to NeoGAF, hope you stick around!

Ah, thank you! I was signed up here for a while and lurked, but never got around to replying to any topics. ouo

I'm wishing I could find a copy of Ever17 as well. If it mindfucks you more than 999...I can't even imagine. Uchikoshi is a genius.

EDIT: While I'm on the topic of other great visual novels, does anyone know of any good, easier to find ones that also have Japanese dialogue with English subs? I'm learning Japanese, and may be living there next year and I've found that they are a fantastic way to brush up on your listening comprehension.

Old!Sigma looks like a BAMF. Two mecha-arms and an awesome eyepatch does that to you, I guess.

This just in: Phantom Pain is the sequel to VLR, you're playing as Sigma (who lost only one arm), has white hair and the entire facility is the Nevada Test Site.
i can dream

Although I do have to wonder how Sigma never noticed that his voice sounded 45 years older. One would think that it would be pretty apparent considering all the monologuing he does. Ah well; if that's the only noticeable plot hole in the game it's a relatively small deal.

You could link that up with the fact that all of them had their thought processes slowed down by Radical-6, and nobody actually sounded like they should've.

He was drawing knowledge from Junpei Tenmyouji?

I was thinking he was getting at Sigma getting the knowledge from an alternate self. :p

But yeah, Junpei is mostly likely, as he was even in the very same room at one point.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. The first game was about a single morphogenetic field pass between a "sender" and a "receiver"; the second game is about using it to jump between timelines and conciousnesses; the third one will most likely be about accessing some sort of a "collective morphogenetic field" in the fourth dimmension. Grabbing knowledge from other people sounds like the evolution they might go for.

Also, there's one more thing I remembered: the "flashback" with Sigma and Phi being unable to defuse one of the bombs. Is it just a scenario where you can't input a password, or will it be explained in the following game?

Here's a brainteaser for everyone:

If the players' perception of time slowed down due to the effects of Radical-6, how was it that the bombs didn't explode before their bracelets reached 0:00? Did the bombs magically run on Radical-6 time?

This has probably been discussed before, but it's been bugging me all day.

The password input device was in one of the safes, right? I never understood that bit either, unless Zero had as extra one with a suitable dongle lying around...

My thought is that because Akane knew about the bombs, she altered the timers to be on Rad6 time, as well as providing the input device.

No I actually got that scene when I gave up inputing one of the bomb passwords I forgot to write down, just to see what happens. I assume you get that scene for failing any of those. Similar to how you get a game over for not knowing the lion passwords.

Those moments in the story should be marked with a Lock or a similar tile; it was hard to find them afterwards in the tangled mess of FLOW.

I was just thinking... Since people being a different age than they appear is a theme in this game, does anyone else think we might be finding out more about Lotus in the next game? She really doesn't look old at all, but people were constantly making cracks about her age. Maybe there's more to it...

Novel actually has a somewhat different story is what I hear because they only do one loop so everything sucks

BUT

Junpei and June get a happy ending (as Tricksy found a while back)

999aend.jpg

ALSO QUESTIONS THAT CAN BE ASKED UCHIKOSHI ARE GOING LIVE
That's.... Kind of awesome, still.... The art is reaaallyy nice! And I think June did Console Clover at some point with regards to Snake... But I'm not 100% sure. :/

And maaannnn I want to ask questions so badly! But I can't think of one! >.< (Unbelievable, I know.)

Also:

It's missing Clover and Alice, but OMGYESH! IT'S SWIMSUIT TIME!!!

Hmmm.... That's a good idea. I don't have concrete questions, but I have some brainstorming topics, I guess... It's all slowly coming to me, haha.

How about some clarification on how the branching timelines affects 999's plot. I know 999 had a whole stable time loop... paradox... thing... going on, but VLR kind makes it seem like all the other paths are their own timelines, while 999 made it seem like they were only possible futures being observed by a young Akane.

By extension: does this make the ability to "jump" available to all ESPers? If not, what makes Sigma, Phi, and Kyle (or ???) so special?

Isn't there already another timeline where Radical-6 isn't released? Why are Akane and Sigma trying so hard to create a future where the world is safe from Radical-6, if there should already be a timeline like that. (I'm assuming timelines split at any major event, creating an infinite number of timelines.)

So If/when they do manage to create the ideal timeline at point "E", the timeline where they failed will also still exist. Doesn't that make everything they're doing pointless? Or is there more to the overall plan that involves the method of transporting a body through time?

I'm sure there are answers to these already, but I've come up with them so far to share here. Maybe this way we can spot check and make sure we have some great questions to ask!

Would it be fair to ask if everything's been planned since before 999 came out?

I don't think it was. Uchikoshi said he had no plans for a sequel at the time of 999... But it wouldn't hurt to ask, actually... Dude probably has a ton of tricks up his sleeves.

Submitted my questions.

Have we already met the person taking over Kyle's body (in "Another Time" scene in True Ending) during 999/VLR?
I'm really curious about this one. Judging by the chat with Akane at the very end, it's neither Sigma, nor Phi. My money's on Junpei or Santa.

Will Sigma get his swimsuit reward (seeing Luna, Phi, Clover and Alice in swimsuits)? Maybe as an extra scene?
I waited 27 hours and all I got was Tumblr pictures . _. (although, that's better than nothing)

Studying late for calculus, just realized how perfect of a name Sigma is for him, very clever. Tomorrow I'll have to look for what meaning Phi has.

Kyle's voice acting was among the best btw, pretty much exactly what I was imagining the whole time playing as sigma.

We kinda already knew who "?" is.
Blick Winkel, aka the player, you.
(the author confirmed this on twitter)
So it's probably the main character of Volume 3.

Spoilered because it's not related to VLR only.

Kinda off-topic, but is that spoiler going to ruin my experience with
Ever17
should I decide to play it? Read that spoiler already somewhere else in this thread because of someone not using [spoiler) well, so I'm kinda curious if it's THE twist or just a twist.

BTW: I've played through both 999 and VLR (and got the Platinum-trophy :3), and I've also heard there are some twist which really feel like some that are in
Ever17
. Does that spoil that game for me too?

How much of a spoiler it is depends entirely upon how much you read into the context of how that name is used. There is indeed a character named
Blick Winkel
in
Ever17
that is very important, but it is only the first of many twists.

You should really play it, it's great!

Ironically I wonder if having played
Ever17
will end up spoiling some of the third Zero Escape series.

So the third game will be set between 999 and VLR, but Sigmas consciousness will travel back in time?

Apparently, yes. There'll be young Junpei, young Sigma, Tenmyouji & Quark (confirmed on Twitter) and probably Akane (come on, the series wouldn't be the same without her). What we don't know is whether the main character will be any of them, the "?" featured in "Another Time", or a completely new person.

Don't forget that Dio and Kyle have also been confirmed to appear!

I know he is
the player and something about a white light, then I stopped reading the spoiler :p
, but it seems like the game is still worth it then. Thanks for the reply!

Submitted my questions after a bit of thought... I may or may not ask more. >.>

How closely does the "multiple timelines" idea relate to 999's plot? In 999, it seemed like the alternate paths were simply observed by young Akane, and didn't actually exist. Only the "True" path was the final, since it was the only one where Akane completed her mission and was able to continue her existence. But VLR suggests that the alternate timelines like the Safe ending actually exist. Does that mean there's another timeline where Akane no longer exists?

Do all ESPers have the ability to jump, under certain circumstances? If not, what makes Sigma, Phi, and ???/Kyle so special?

Do paths branch at every different event to create an infinite number of timelines? If so, what is the point of trying to create a timeline where the plan reaches "Point E"? Doesn't the timeline where Radical-6 is not released already exist? If not, then what defines where/when timelines split?

VLR made a big jump (heh) to 3D graphics, with 2D art only sometimes appearing. Has any decision been made about Volume 3's art style? Will it move closer to full 3D or full 2D animation? Or will it remain a hybrid of the two? Also, will we be seeing longer animated cutscenes for important events? (Either in 2D or 3D?)

I really hope these get answered. :/

Does the technolgy for cloning exist in the past? or is in the future.

maybe Phi is a clone fo Aoi who was sent back in time to help Sigma in the mars project. i twould also explain how clover and Alice, can travel back in time.

there is more to the Q room than meets the eye im guessing

I'm pretty sure the game mentions that K was made during the 40 years of creating the third Nonary Game.

EDIT: I guess that doesn't mean that cloning couldn't have existed before that. So who knows?
