Square Enix to announce a Secret Title on 12 Dec [Over. Star Galaxy, browser game]

I don't get why anyone paid attention to this countdown. Square Enix (or either separate) hasn't made a single good game. If anything, these dumpy looking browser games are probably the most interesting thing they've made in their 30-ish year history.

God DAMN

that's quite a statement :lol

Reminder: Square's first million-seller ever was a casualified RPG with collection aspects for the hot new mobile device of the time, designed to be played during a particular commute. :lol

Can't wait for this company to go under. I can't think of a more deserving company.

Zynga?

When people toss out ridiculous statements like this, I just lose hope for humanity. Regardless of what you think of their games, they're a huge publisher and their loss would be devastating for the entire industry. Unbelievable.

Wait, wait.

People still believe in Capcom? Wh--- Oh. Yeah. I get it.

Capcom and SQEX still make my favorite games, by far. (My top 3 of 2012 are XIII-2, Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil 6.) Why do you think countdown threads like this that people know are likely for a browser game still get hyped? You'll see the same hype in a few days with Lightning Returns. People care because they still have extremely talented teams of people working there. Agni's Philosophy trounced UE4 out of nowhere, with a small R&D team.

They're smart to diversify into mobile, social and browser. It's making them money, and it's cheap to make. Portables are dying.

Honestly, if I could just read the damn game, I'd probably try Star Galaxy out.

They are one more FFXIV away from it.

That will never happen again. And honestly, I don't think they are. Between the 3 MMOs, toys, merchandise, soundtracks, concerts, manga, tv series, arcade, console, mobile, browser, portable games they are pretty much more diversified than any other game company out there. This isn't even counting Eidos or Crystal Dynamics.

If you think they're actually going under any time soon, you're greatly mistaken. They've already incurred all the cost to develop XIV twice, and they're still not doomed. Now it's going to be the revenue phase of XIV, XI and DQX. All the heavy costs are already done. All the heavy costs from Versus are probably mostly done too. A lot of the heavy costs on Luminous engine development is already done.

Seems like western studios are crashing and burning a lot more frequently these days.

Why is that so ridiculous? Some other, potentially GOOD MINDED company, could (and probably would) buy them out JUST for their IP's and could steamroll some interesting ideas from that.

EDIT: I should add that in my context, this is when they'd be in the red. Right now you're right, they ARE profitable by some UNGODLY means...

FFX was commentary on their actual circumstance, Uematsu and the Gooch had to go on a pilgrimage to defeat and become SIN (movies) in order to save the company. Not long now till Mist Walker comes back to threaten SE again and Wada/Toriyama will have to make the pilgrimage and hopefully fail outright leaving SE once again under the guiding light of the mustachio ones.

So I've had a busy day so haven't read up, but based purely off the thread title edit, this is really lulz-worthy.

This company and its trolling.

Look at it from the other side though. Say they announce an awesome HD console RPG. Who develops it? When do they release it? Never?

Say they announce an awesome handheld RPG. What are the chances now that it gets brought over here?

I mean in what scenario did this play out favorably to anyone?

I think if it had been star ocean like many were hoping for the assumption would have been that tri-ace would have been making it. If that had been the case it might have actually seen release sometime this decade, and I for one would love some more Tri-Ace.

However, being the current SE that we all know and love I never had any hope for this. The outcome has only shown me that I was right to believe that SE is a nothing but a bloated ship that Wada and friends are intent on sinking at all costs.

I would love nothing more then to see them turn it around, I just won't believe they can until I see it.

You're right, I guess the answer was Star Ocean fans, but after 4 I didn't think there were any left.

And you guys thought they couldn't possibly get any worse this generation.

Outside of handhelds.

I wonder if Square-Enix purposefully orchestrated this teaser site to gauge how interested people are in another Star Ocean.

SE doesn't care what its fans want. Not when it has more MMOs/Browser/Toriyama crap to forcefully shove down its fans's throats.

Sigh.. Although I knew to not get excited.. a part of me still had hope that we would get a Star Ocean game for PS3 or 3DS. I just want a real game and I'm tired of seeing all these browser, iOS & Android games that I simply will never care about or never play.

I know I'm not the audience for them.. and I sure hope SE doesn't think they will convert/entertain their legacy fan base with these games.

Bright side, maybe eventually I'll get to play Dragon Quest VII 3DS & Dragon Quest X Wii U. Otherwise to me SE now really means Square Eidos.

lol!!

go go square enix and its pointless announcements!!!

i began to think that fans need to acknowledge the (desperate and pretty poor) situation of the jrpg (??) development (?? lol) from SE. imho.
this way they could avoid to get hyped everytime lol

Let's just hope the browser / social game market won't sink in Japan anytime soon, if that's really one of the few sectors where the company can still raise money.
