So there's a daily challenge for winning king of the hill matchmaking games, yet they just removed king of the hill from matchmaking four days ago. Amazing work, 343.

It's available in the Crimson DLC playlist. Since the maps are currently free, you should be able to access it.

Yep, I accidentally started from a rally point for last week's campaign challenge and ended up getting credit for completing the level on Legendary. woo.

Damn. This works? I might try to knock out the Legendary solo cheevo soon, if so.

I just got the special delivery achievement, and this is probably the easiest way to do it as well. Should work everytime.

Next time you play on Harvest, go to the top middle of the map where those two lifts are on each side of you (above the room with the plants in it). Just sit at the top and wait til someone goes in the lift, and when they do, walk into the lift as well and when they get near you melee them.

I did it just now in my first match without even paying attention like a minute in.

NIce. Thanks

Play Crimson DLC to get the challenge if you really want it.

  1. KotH games are not guaranteed in the Crimson list
  2. This list is only available behind a paywall - 50% of today's dailies are open only to people who pay extra.

The maps are only free to folks who participated in the '14 day pay and play' program - which means you had to have logged into matchmaking during the first two weeks of its release and you have to live in a country that supports the program. (And even if you qualify for both of those, you STILL had to luck out and receive the email MS sent out - we had two qualifying accounts in this house, and neither one received the email.)

Sounds like a pretty easy task to me, considering the drop rates some of MMOGAF deals with.

Not free in the uk.

Beaten. Not like anyone cares about challenges - but the principle of putting them behind pay walls is shitty.

This is more likely to just be a accident - which is just plain silly

Would have been cheap and easy for them to give us a Forge space in a Tron or MGS Training room style.

Visually it'd be totally different to anything else and offer clutter-free playspaces. Characters would always be high contrast too.

What could have been..
But, they did...

Meaning how far game companies can push their consumers because they know they'll buy it all.

pay walls, disc locked content, pre order retailer bonuses, pay more for gameplay advantage etc etc etc. It's only been getting worse.

Pay walls and disc locked content im with you on. Thats horse shit. Paying for game advantage, if we talking bout halo i dont see it.

All companies do shit to frustrate their consumers tho. The majority of players are happy enough right now so i dont think MS is too concerned.

PC gamers definitely have it better. Id love for MS to open up the 360 to allow modded content. The possibilities for maps and custom modes for halo is crazy.

Im not into PC gaming though, i prefer the ease of use of consoles. But would love some of the features it has.

Next gen is going to be fucking terrible with all this bullshit.

Might as well save up for a PC

Good choice. I got some fantastic hardware this year for gaming/work and never looked back. Will never purchase another console.

With the PC market moving to a Free to Play environment you'll only ever have to pay for things you actually want.

Buying the LE gives you access to the specializations early. Some of us were lucky to get the code. Others weren't. Especially those not in the US who didn't have a chance to get the code if they bought standard edition.

Anyone who gets the game for Christmas or something will have no chance of getting the codes.

You might even be able to argue double XP gives you an advantage since ranking up will allow you to have more abilities.

And even then, things will go on sale at more convenient times with services like Steam.

Yep, and day one (+pre loading) digital distribution, cloud syncing, and all such lavishes for retail games.

For those looking for arena games: Firefall (which is an open world RPG type thing with a core of PvP small team arena matches) and Hawken (actually plays a lot like Halo) are great, F2P games. Natural Selection 2 is a very good asymmetrical arena game too. But PC is where you will find a huge amount of variety, very much beyond the traditional CoD/Halo competitive arena shooters.

I thought that too. But finally accessing some of the perks from the specialisations and im seeing that they arent really that great. Stability is maybe the only strong perk, but even with that i think its easy enough to compete against. Id say none of the perks really give too much of an advantage to where you cant compete against them. There really is counters to everything and its just a matter of playing differently to counter them. I know we shouldnt have to and all that but thats how the game is (right now) so what can we do.

As for the double XP, we dont have that promotion here. Personally i could give a fuck about extra XP. I feel that will just shorten the game by reaching top rank quicker. Same reason i have no intentions of ever using that fast rank up perk.

I know some people here are pissed about getting no DXP and thats understandable. But me, i just dont really care about it.

Call them out on it. Criticize that decision. For lack of better words, complain. I love reading the well thought out long posts here, but everyone needs to understand, its not like 343 stops at those, reads them, and takes them into consideration. They look at a broad sense of feedback. If one person writes out a long ass post detailing why the boltshot is fine the way it is, and 50 people keep saying "Boltshot sucks, nerf the boltshot, its cheap, fuck the boltshot" They're going to probably nerf the boltshot, or at least look into it.

This is the mentality I hate to see around here. Thankfully it seems to be in a minority on HaloGAF. If you don't like an aspect of the game, PLEASE say so. Don't just say "Oh well, game is out, nothing we can do, just take it." I'm not saying to be CONSTANTLY negative all the time, but don't just sit there and let decisions you think are bad go uncontested. That gives 343 the idea that everyone is cool with it.

I'd also disagree about the perks.

Operator makes your vehicles finally worth a damn in a land full of plasma pistols and nades.
Rogue gives you a huge advantage in long range battles.
Drop Recon mod gives you MASSIVE battlefield awareness. 10 seconds of warning of WHAT and WHERE a power weapon will drop.

Among others. These will decide encounters, and entire games. You really notice the seemingly small game changing abilities once you play a high level or close game.

I agree with you. But im talking specifically about core things like perks in particular. These things wont change to the degree people in here want. Things like the boltshot, lack of custom options, theatre, file share etc should be discussed alot to show we want them to change. Im with you on that.

But things like the core gameplay we have arent going to change too drastically. Unfortunately this is what 343 wanted so they made it.

So, 343 removed KOTH playlist so they could force people to play (and pay for) the DLC for KOTH. Brilliant fucking work, people. Brilliant. I applaud your extremely shitty business tactics.

So this weird ARG thing has been going on on the Waypoint forums for like a month and I was totally oblivious. Anyone following it?
Naked Eli has several youtube videos that have all the codes and what they unlock. Armor, emblems, credits. You have to complete certain things before you can unlock some of the stuff, though.

KotH games are not guaranteed in the Crimson list

To be fair, after playing a bit today it looks like 343 has put a lot of weight on KOTH games in the DLC playlist today.

Sad that they couldn't have just communicated that to us. Their community relations are among the worst.

I don't get it either, this game is a lot better than Reach but the list of minor issues add up to me not wanting to get on. Even I played Halo Reach beyond this.

It's probably because you did deal with Reach for that long. You don't want it to go on any longer.

So either 343 are greedy bastards, making people pay extra for DLC to complete the challenge today, or they have an automated challenge rotation and are too incompetent to realize they just removed the KOTH playlist.

It has to be one or the other, and neither are good.

challenges are random, and they probably didn't remove the KOTH ones.

If people are going to buy DLC just to get a daily challenge worth shit all points, then the Halo demographic has much bigger problems then we can imagine.

Challenges don't actually count for anything, so I fail to see the anger behind this as valid.

A) It was probably an automated mistake.
B) Just because they include in game incentives to purchase additional content doesn't make them "greedy bastards." It makes them businessmen. It also makes it better for all of us who purchased the DLC as now the rest of the community has even more incentive to purchase the DLC and see those maps in regular rotation. Are they greedy bastards because they also include achievements in the new DLC?

The same company that kept the Link Up to Bungie.net challenge in the rotation long after Bungie handed off control to 343, making it a 1cR payout instead of removing it entirely. They've never done a very good job with culling challenges as needed.

Fair enough. It's still silly though.

I resent your sobering rationalism. Can't you let me play devil's advocate in peace? THIS POT MUST BE STIRRED!

So when is the good Halo game coming out? I've been waiting for it since 07.
Little over a month ago brah
