Halo just isn't halo anymore, the magic is gone.

Just as addictive as halo 3 mp if not more. I really don't get some of the complaints. People are actually complaining about movement speed? Wow seems perfect to me. The magic is still there to me even with the new additions to gameplay.

How anti-consumer are MS points? Considering we pay for gold would it hurt them to allow the customer to pay for only as many points as they needed instead of pre-set blocks?

But how much you pay depends on where you get it.

So I just realized we're on Page 103. We should have started a new thread over 2 pages ago. Have we all grown that apathetic that nobody is willing to make the new OT?

Go home. You are drunk.

That's why I haven't played it since about November 12?

I believe movement was slowed down in order to accomodate the introduction of sprint, among other things.

If you haven't noticed it started (to a small extent) in Halo 3 and progressively got worse. Map sizes and scale also grew larger and larger as a result.

Yea I remember when the maps were correctly sized so you didnt need sprint and aa's to get around the map.

I know they're not going to be publishing bulletins as often during the holidays, but will they still be pushing out updates? (assuming without release logs)

Here's a question to open up some actual discussion...

How far do you think 343 will be willing to go to change the base game?

Instant Respawn
Global Ordnance
Boltshot
Plasma Pistol/Plasma Nades in BTB
DMR
Armor Abilities
Perks

If you recall, Bungie and then 343 changed a lot of the game post launch with Reach. We had some AA's that were outright removed. Same that Bungie did with equipment in 3. Some were only included in some playlists. Then we had the TU and we had entire playlists with a different version of bloom, so much so that vanilla settings with MOST of the AA's were only found in Invasion and Team Slayer or something.

-There's some pretty universal dislike for instant respawn.

-There's universal dislike for Global Ordnance in its current form.

-There's a universal dislike for the boltshot in its current form, the magnitude of its nerf is up to debate.

-The only people that like plasma pistols/plasma nades in BTB are the ones that hate vehicles already. But this is something that ruins BTB for me at least.

-DMR is a contested topic, It's more skillful than any of the other guns (save for the nuanced light rifle maybe) but almost everyone agrees its the most powerful starting weapon in the game, and its range has been cited as being overpowering and stifling to map movement. Especially on larger maps.

-Armor abilities, Bungie and 343 cut a bunch from many playlists in Reach. Will they do they same in 4? There's some pretty strong feelings with good thoughts behind them behind the dislike of camo, jetpack, hard light...

-Some of the support and tactical packages in the game introduce some really unfair advantages. When these were announced, 343 maintained they didn't affect combat as much as we thought it would, and it was more about tailoring to a playstyle than anything else... when the question was asked if they affect power weapons (dexterity, ammo etc) 343 was silent on the issue or didn't hear us ask. But it was met with a lot of "lol there's no way it affects power weapons that'd be dumb" Well... unfortunately it did.

Something else we have to realize is unless 343 TU's the game with more options, we can't do things like include specialization perks in preset loudouts, we can't stack multiple perks on top of each other, and I'm not sure if there's any way to actually BAN a custom class that has a certain weapon from playlists without making everything pre-set.

How much do you think we can reasonably expect 343 to change the game?

They kind of wrote themselves into a corner on this one by grouping AA choice in with loadouts. There can't be a decision like Bungie made where no new playlists from them were going to have Armor Lock.. they can either force a playlist to globally have the same set of loadouts (completely defeating their CoD-style loadouts system) or just deal with it / nerf an AA into oblivion so that nobody chooses it.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I still can't believe there isn't BTB Objective. I know it's been brought up many times - but it just absolutely blows my mind that it hasn't been added, yet; let alone wasn't included at release.

Just.... WHY? Someone else mentioned before - Halo players fall into, typically, one of two categories. 1) Those that like massive fights with large teams, objectives, and vehicles. 2) Those that prefer a smaller and more intimate playstyle on smaller maps with smaller teams and without vehicles. I unquestionably fall into the former.

2-Flag CTF on Blood Gulch
1-Flag CTF on Zanzibar
Assault on Headlong

THOSE! Those are my best times with Halo - great teamwork, a variety of tactics, and a constant level of suspense kept you on the edge of your seat. Where that five second respawn felt like an ETERNITY, and you'd follow the action calculating how you'd help your team tackle the objective with a few remaining seconds of sudden death.

That sense of urgency is completly lost in H4 in my opinion.

Probably because the last time they tried a split BTB Slayer and BTB Objective in Halo 2, BTB Objective was struggling weeks later, and they eventually recombined. You just can't get the Halo populace to play Objective in great numbers, let alone 100% objective, and has troll teams in it that use it to killgrind even faster.

Split BTBs didn't work in Halo 3 either, and it seems the whole rotational playlist concept didn't last for very long as we've still got Team Regicide taking away King of the Hill's slot.

I see where you're coming from... but on the flipside, I never quite understood the former argument about the population waning as time goes on. At any given time, it's not like there were less than a thousand people playing BTB Objective. I never once spent that long looking for a game - heck, if my memory is serving me correctly, even in the dead of night BTBO games got matched up quicker than H4's matchmaking at any time.

There was always a decent enough size of people playing BTB Objective that it frustrates me it's not there.

And for the second argument about grinding - I think that was the case for clans in H2. But nowadays, I feel there is enough "point distribution" for objectives that it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

I don't think they'll ever come close to adding the amount of options that should have just been there since the original release.

Game could be saved with a huge options patch though, I just dont see it happening, most of the options they do actually have are buggy already. Probably have to fix those first.

Right now its the Halo fans that are going and playing other games which maybe reward some semblance of skill.
Yep - it's only us assholes who aren't Halo fans and don't have any skill that have stuck around.

(Yes, it's getting tiring to hear this either/or description of players/non-players. There are almost as many kinds of Halo players as there are Halo players, and this constant us/them bullshit is really starting to get to me. I'm a fucking Halo fan. I like Halo, I've liked Halo as long as anyone else here. I like Halo 4, I liked Reach, I liked Halo 3, I liked Halo 2 (well, most of the time), I liked the original game. I'm tired of being told that my lack of discrimination is what's killing the franchise, or maybe it's my lack of skill, or whatever. STOP FUCKING GENERALIZING WHY PEOPLE ARE OR AREN'T PLAYING. Thank you.)

The thing to remember is that population sizes don't matter the same across different configurations. 1000 would be decent for Team Objective back in the day, that theoretically lets you have 120 or so simultaneous games running. For BTB though, that maximum simultaneous game count is halved to 60. And since you're not likely to have an even number of teams out there, your actual simulatenously running games are going to be much lower - in the low 30s due to available games being too far away in skill, latency, or incompatible NAT. BTB doesn't have a very good "crumple zone" at that population.

Considering BTB's current success in Halo 4 (first time I've ever seen a BTB list outpopulate Team Slayer) I don't think they're going to touch it or sabotage it with even optional objectives, which are known to drop a playlist's population. BTB Objective could work as long as it's rotational. Keyword: rotational. It can't linger around and only removed by taking it out back and shooting it in the head. Have it for a week, don't let it linger.

And kill grinding still happened all the way into Reach. I don't need to mention the gamertags but they've been posted plenty of times before, and they did it in BTB objectives, Invasion, and Team Objective. It's really hard to get people to play Objective when the gametype has such shitty ambassadors for it. It was something like a player will leave a playlist and never come back after getting optional objectives gametypes voted at an average of two times.

Essentially, the ideal Halo playlist for population is Unranked Slayer. The least ideal playlist is a Ranked 100% Objective list. This is why Bungie would start a new playlist as Slayer only then introduce Objective down the line, they were trying to get the most people to try out the playlist from the start.

Yeah, I do agree. This game isn't doing much for me personally but it is fun more often than not. My nephew loves this game. Can't really say I blame him. Nor should I.

You need to chill out with your use of Universal dislike. There will never be such a thing in video games. The best you can hope for is a playlist that captures things you brought up.

They've been making this game for 4 years, this is what they wanted to do. Your biggest ally will be if the game drops off after Christmas quickly.

I don't want to admit it - cause I really like BTB Objective - but I suppose your argument about the "crumple zone" is probably right on the money. I used to make the same argument against ToR this time last year and people disregarded my argument (ie: population is split across 20 servers, then split in half by factions, then by 17 planets, then by whether or not the person is on - meant there were like 15 people on any given planet at once, so things felt empty as hell).

It sucks though. I guess with Objectives not a viable play type, then Halo just is no longer for me in the longterm. I'll still play it from time to time - I don't hate it. But BTB Objective is a mode that could get me to play for eight hours straight, five days a week; rather than for an hour or two every once in a while. Damn shame.

Yep. People are way too quick to label what they like as the universal agreed upon stance. I say this as someone who hates pretty much every thing they did with Halo 4.

EDIT: I guarantee you that of the jackasses using the Boltshot some are doing it out of necessity and others because they don't care because a kill's a kill no matter how cheap.

pretty universal

But yeah, I hope they consider some serious changes. I mean they played around a lot with Reach and it wasn't even their game. Don't go all conservative on us now, 343 Industries.

Yeah I'm pretty bummed out with a lot of 4, especially coming off of Reach which nearly killed the franchise for me (mp only). But I do still have fun playing 4 (more then Reach mainly), just hard to take it serious in a competitive setting. It's more mindless now, which is really sad when you can say that about Halo

What? You asked if there was an option to disable weapon spawns... I don't think I follow.
Maybe im the one thats confused, so forgive me if thats the case.

I have a lockout remake that has the classic weapon set with classic weapon spawns. I want the brs, swords, etc. to not spawn in my snipers gametype.

Also while I have your attention do you know where i could obtain that no sprint gametype?

Journey is GOTY.

Release Halo 5 Limited Edition which cotains a bonus disc for the 720 which remasters Halo 2's campaign.

Avoid playlist fragmenting by having social gametypes be Infinity/Waypoint Slayer stuff.

Ranked will use Halo 2's gameplay.

Also I downloaded Windows 8 and I'm loving it except my fucking mouse isn't working so I have to use an old one.

We can do better then that. Do people not remember how overpowered the sword was? How about removing all the super bounces to. And remember how quick and easy the homing rockets were? I'd get a lock and shoot the rocket straight up into the air for a hammer of dawn approach to all ground vehicles. Remember how overpowered the banshee was? And revisit dual wielding?

Halo 2 was the most fun I had with Halo MP, but even I remember there was plenty to fix there.

EDIT:But Goddamn did Halo 2 have the best maps. Unreal to think how many amazing maps it launched with, and how good some of the DLC maps were to boot.
Those maps complemented the gameplay so well.

Come to think of it..
Has any game ever launched with a better suite of multiplayer maps then Halo 2?
I can't think of a single one, though obviously way biased towards Halo.
Ascension
A medium-sized asymmetrical map perched atop a large stack.[5]
Beaver Creek
A remake of Battle Creek, almost identical to the original.[6]
Burial Mounds
A large, asymmetrical map featuring hilly, uneven terrain.[7]
Coagulation
A remake of Blood Gulch. Very similar to the original, with a few changes.[8]
Colossus
A medium-sized symmetrical map set in a Forerunner gas plant.[9]
Foundation
A symmetrical, square-shaped map set in a testing facility in Chicago.
Headlong
A large, asymmetrical map set in an urban landscape on Earth.[10] Later remade as Breakneck for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo: Reach.
Ivory Tower
A medium-sized map set on the top floor of a skyscraper on Earth.[11] Later remade as Reflection for Halo: Reach.
Lockout
A small-to-medium-sized map. Later remade as Blackout for Halo 3. One of the most popular maps played on Xbox Live.[12]
Midship
A small, symmetrical map set on a Covenant space vessel.[13] Later remade as Heretic for Halo 3.
Waterworks
A huge map set inside a gigantic subterranean cavern, well-suited to game types involving vehicles.[14]
Zanzibar
A medium-to-large-sized map set on the shoreline on Earth. Features a large emblematic rotating wheel.[15] Later remade as Last Resort for Halo 3.
[edit]

That's before we even got Warlock / Sanctuary / Turf / Relic / Terminal / Desolation / Containment

I stick by my assessment that every.single.one of Halo 2's maps were good, with a handful of them as absolutely great.

I believe Headlong and Zanzibar are the two best maps in any FPS, period.

And with all that said, part of the reason I believe Halo has become less and less "great" is because of the drastic decline in map quality release to release.

EDIT: Funny, I kind of forgot about Turf - that maps was a freaking BLAST for 4v4 objective.

And Terminal was great, too. As simple as the train going through was, it's amazing how many times someone got hit by it and instantly changing the dynamic of a match.

there's 20,000 players on infinity slayer atm and the game can't find a match without lag for me? it's pretty late local time so I can understand the need to match me up with overseas players, however reach could and can still do the same without the insane lag I'm experiencing in 4. either that or it's a JIP 100-400.

I would say no.

I would also put Bungie MP maps absolutely leagues ahead of anything else in the genre though, outside of maybe UT. Halo 2 just had the highest concentration of good maps.

You can make a case for alot of the Halo 2 maps being the best.

1-flag Zanzibar was the pinnacle for me.
CTF - Midship
CTF - Sanctuary
TS - Lockout
1-flag / TS - Ivory Tower

I always felt that Lockout was the most popular map in Halo2 and it certainly deserved the accolades, but really all the maps offered something

Halo 2 maps were always hit or miss with me. Just from the launch maps, I only enjoyed Waterworks, Lockout, Midship, Coagulation, and maybe Beaver Creek. From the DLC I enjoyed Relic, Containment, Sanctuary, and Gemini for some weird reason.

The rest I didn't have much fun on or don't remember enough to say one way or the other.
