Active Camo + Crouching = SMH.

You have to have assholes test the game. Because you have to assume everyone will be an asshole online, or the assholes will ruin it for everyone else.

That us the problem with online games. Society is full of filthy and selfish people that don't give a fuck about other people, or players and will go to no ends to satisfy their own pleasure and take great pride in it too.

Thanks for the response guys. I was thinking an all Forerunner world would provide a nice opportunity to feel some of the CE atmosphere. The human environments in the last few games have sucked so much.

I think they know what they're doing. Remember when Bungie was teasing Armor Lock before Reach came out? Saying how powerful and abusable it is? They shipped the game with Armor Lock knowing that. Developers know these things and they do it anyway.

While I can't speak for 343's decision making process, I will say that during the game course I took last year, taught by the dude who founded ensemble studios, he said sometimes there is a line between balance and fun and they aren't the same thing a lot of the time.

Its just that for some people randomness and explosions is fun, for others its tight gameplay being rewarding.

I mean, I for one am loving the game. Except for instances of lag, or match breaking teams that just camp I have a shit ton of fun. Running around with a Frenzy, or heck a Riot and then getting snubbed out by someone that is 2-13 because they camped with camo is just painful to swallow.

Last time I came into this thread I saw a few comments that people haven't unlocked AAs as an attempt to keep Halo pure. Is that right?

Are you actually neglecting benefits the game offers you because you're so senile? No wonder some people hate this game, if they're going to actively play it wrong.

Yes, I'm sure the Boltshot seems like bullshit if you refuse to use it.

The "It's only unbalanced if you don't use it" argument is bad and you should feel bad.

Probably the same as always but it's just so much harder now.

Exterm is the same criteria as any other Halo - kill every member of the opposing team with at least an Overkill. Only difference is the timer between multikills has been increased from 4 second to 4.5 seconds in Halo 4 (I suppose to balance out instant respawning?).

Could be just latency. The multikill timer has always had decent amount of give to it in multi. It's not very forgiving in Firefight due to the different networking.

No, it's bullshit because it has a reload glitch, and fires sideways, through walls and around corners, even silently, depending on network conditions which are more often than not poor. I think its balance within the sandbox is debatable, its addition is worthy of criticism, but I don't think I can speak too much to that because I've never played this game in ideal network conditions.

I have a fever of 101.3 F, ugh.

Hey HaloGAF I know most of you don't know me but I'd appreciate it if you would watch this video

A few weeks ago I lost a good friend that I met through Halo and XBL. He had been struggling with PTSD as a veteran. Some of his friends and clanmates made this as a memorial to him.

Sorry for the OT.

it has a reload glitch
Not anymore, actually. 343i patched that not too long ago.

The only problem I have with the Boltshot is that it's incredibly overpowered for a loadout weapon. When compared to other close-range weapons, like the Shotgun or the Scattershot, the Boltshot has a wider range and it's far more consistent (especially compared to the Scattershot). And those are ordnances and map pick-ups!

I don't have a problem the way it is, however if it's going to remain in its current state, it needs to not be a loadout weapon. Instead, make it a personal ordnance choice. If they're going to keep it as a loadout weapon, the range and damage needs to be dramatically reduced. Either make it a one-shot kill from Mauler range (virtually melee range), or make the first shot only drop shields like a Plasma Pistol.

Funny enough I don't think boltshot would get nearly the flak it does if it weren't for the whole custom class/loadout system. Keep it a proper map pickup and no one would've batted an eye.

But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return

It might sound lame, but XBL really does bring people together.

Always horrible to lose a fellow member of the Halo community. Very good movie, well done.

RIP.

How did the Halo CE Magnum fit in the sandbox? Was it ridiculously overpowered? Spoiler:
The answer is yes.
Do we all recall it fondly? Spoiler:
The answer is yes.

I dunno guys. Boltshot is easy to hear, easy to dodge if you can get around a corner, can easily be a fatal move if you miss a heavy shot with it (since you're then forced to either switch weapons or recharge...~2 seconds), and the reload glitch was removed weeks ago. The only people I've seen consistently fall for the Boltshot are people who fail to understand how vital the radar is to Halo's gameplay. If I'm low shields and you've chased me into a corner, you're damn right I'm pulling out the boltshot for a chance at keeping the streak alive.

The pistol encouraged players to be aggressive. Boltshot encourages players to camp.

The CE pistol was not overpowered.

Boltshot encourages players to camp.
As does the sword, shotgun, scattershot, hammer, and every other power weapon in the game. If anything, the Boltshot discourages campers, since now anyone can approach them with a default loadout and make them pay. I recall some Rampages in Halo: Reach's Construct map where whomever had the shotgun could dominate a match. I think that's where a lot of the saltiness regarding Halo 4 is coming from. It's easier for a regular Joe to keep up with a "pro player" due to the chaotic design of the multiplayer. But like Mario Kart, there is still a discernable difference between top level and scum players. As someone said, adaption.

In CE, I recall plenty of cave dwellers online in Blood Gulch creeping around waiting to get the 3-shot. There just aren't many wide expanses for Team Slayer in Halo 4 (outside of the ridiculous BTB), so Boltshot's effect is overstated.

EDIT: Some are arguing that a 3-shot pistol with heavy zoom is not overpowered. Alright, I tried. PEAAACCEEE /u4ix

So, since I'm going to be finishing my whole weapon sandbox revision/revamp/writeup sometime in early 2013, I thought I'd tease you guys with something in the meantime.

The top pros 3 shot probably 2 out of 10 times at their best.

People like to pretend getting a 3sk in Halo 1 against a strafing opponent (not your college roommate running at you in a straight line) was easy.

You have to realize that outside of automatics and the plasma pistol everything else was one shot in that game. And it had the lowest assist and magnetism in the entire series.

Wasn't there a quote from a 343i employee saying that a weapon that can kill in on hit is a power weapon?

So why are we able to spawn with one?

Halo CE were my Clanhalo days, so I know plenty about its pistol. You're right in a sense, especially since lag was a huge factor of online gameplay, so everyone was leading their shots in order to get a kill. But my point remains that it was an inadvertently overpowered weapon. It was a lot of fun to play with though, so I don't recall many complaints outside of the newbies.

Comparing 2 overpowered weapons with different functions is silly.

My point was that the sandbox has always been slanted, so in that sense the comparison works. rose-tinted glasses, etc. etc.

[22:07] <Kimona> <Hitzel> Here's a question for John Howard:
[22:07] <Kimona> <Hitzel> Hardcore Halo players agree that the Halo 1 Pistol is the "greatest mistake" to ever grace a videogame. Is there anything in Shadowrun that wasn't used as intended that improved the game as a whole?
[22:08] <JohnHoward> The Halo 1 pistol wasn't a mistake...
[22:08] <JohnHoward> It was also intended to be the ultimate hold out weapon...
[22:09] <JohnHoward> I always believe that balance is about giving each weapon / ability / whatever it's own perfect situation.

There are these devices called "computers" where you can go to "lobbies" and pick "servers" to play on.

Given u4ix's quote let's rephrase to "overpowered" then. That's cool though, didn't know that.
