Over, if you have the art done by time this thread is over you can go ahead and make the next one. Unless you don't mind me posting a thread showing off your art for the first time. After whatever thread that has your art, all we're going to do is copy and paste your art no matter who does the threads.

I do maintain that the OPs of the Halo OTs need to meet an estrogen quota, so I'll make the next one or the one after that.

Okay I'll post it, finished it up just now.

It's because 343 goes overboard with lighting, uses less decorators and ugly textures.
To me the lighting is perfect but in all honesty someone should be arrested with how bad some of the anisotropic filtering is in this game. Funny enough there are actually some great looking textures in the game mixed in with some poor ones due to non-existent anisotropic filtering. Not sure if I can blame 343 though. They did the best they could with the hardware they have. Hopefully the nextbox will enable the team to utilize technical resources more liberally across many different areas of the game.

As mentioned before, it's completely incompatible with SD televisions, and it looks a little to cluttered to these eyes. The listing of users is a welcome improvement, though.

People on SD TVs can hardly read any in game text any more. It's awful. I doubt this is much different than that.

the new version works with SDs.

too cluttered?? Wat.

343, I pay money for this UI, pls.

We can keep it light in here and let the Halo 4 OT be more serious.

Agreed. I think this thread's OP is funny. But calling Halo 4 "not a real Halo game" is ridiculous. People like that guy are never going to be happy with anything that isn't exactly the same as previous games.

I remember Forza 3 having this problem. There was even a forum post on Forzamotorsport.net of someone asking why there was a "small white blur" (it was the text) on the right side of his TV. No one understood until the OP took a picture, laughs were had

Sorry mate, I'm not on neogaf that often so not completely sure what you mean. Do you want my design in the OP f the new thread?

If that's the case then by all means go ahead!

I've done a slight rejigg and tried to make the design more SD TV friendly, at work at the moment so can't spend too much time on it.

Also, thanks for the all the constructive criticism - I'll try and incorporate it more for the next version.

One more thing, do the guys at 343 frequent this thread often any more? Wouldn't mind sending this to them somehow.

Little personal project I've been working on in regards to the fact that Halo 4's current party UI is pretty awkward to say the least.

Current:

Here's my first attempt at a cleaner and more understandable design. Idea begin the swipe card effect is repeated vertically from the player list - so when a player is highlighted his/her stats are shown.

This is for then the friend list is active:

Let me know what you think and if there's more info and improvements you could suggest. I'm planning on sharing it soon, or at least once the design is closer to completion.

Cheers

Great design, but I would swap/remove some of the information on the left (doesn't need to say the map 3 times). It makes more sense to me for the gametype information to be with the map picture like it was in Halo 2.

You mean lighting that blinds the player and makes maps look drab and dreadful? The lighting shouldn't be excused. It's not being used well.

And as for the textures, I wasn't referring to texture quality. I was referring to flat out ugly terrain textures like those on Ragnarok. Then again, the texture isn't exactly great on some of the more appealing maps like Exile.

I love that UI mockup. If 343's really so bent on customization, maybe the person's little rectangle can have a ton of display options and you can move them around similar to Stickers on Trophies in Brawl.

-KD
-Kills
-Tool of Destruction
-CSR (lol)
-Specialization
-Playstyle (game automatically designates this based on statistics - Mavericks are are lone wolves with high kill counts, etc)
-Most Played Playlist

Oh I actually have a good idea. When this thread hits 20,000 posts we should have it locked, create the 14th OT and then just post in that until it also hits 20,000 posts. LOL HOLY SHIT

The UI mockup even addresses the problem Bungie's been guilty of for years: game type details. It's glorious.

Would be cool if it were possible for 343 to replace the current UI with that mock up. I mean the current UI is functional but it is not pretty and I like to have an info overload (not a bad thing) right there all the time rather than some baseball cards.

It would probably even perform better. Currently, the menus suffer from frame rate issues because the game is always maintaining 4+ character models in the background.

It's another perfect example of 343 preferring style over substance when substance (in this case, performance) should be the priority. Ugh.

Not "crying". I'm merely being cynical. 343 should have never released the game in this condition. As a customer I want only the best experience my money can buy and this is not it.

It's hilarious that you think 343 had any say in the release date. 343 has none of the independence or pull that bungie did when it was under MS.

I'm not saying they did. They knew MS was targeting a late 2012 release for a while and they still delivered an incomplete game.

Look at Halo 2 it was rushed, we all loved it but Bungie views it as a complete mess and it was super glitchy with some game breaking glitches and modders galore after any rank past 30. I loved Halo 2 but it has some pretty bad issues and wasn't perfect either.

Halo 3's problem was the netcode and BR. Reach's was horrible Bloom and AA's

I wonder if there are players out there that genuinely think anyone other than themselves cares about their armour. Shame that is what is standing in the way of a functional UI, and always will.

That's a nice UI.

One thing Halo 4 did well at: use of color. I've always loved how colorful the world of Halo is - it's got a palette on par with some of the most colorful games out there, like World of Warcraft or Super Mario Bros.

I had been disappointed by the greys and browns of ODST and Reach so it's great to return to the colorful world of core Halo games with Halo 4.
You didn't like the look of ODST? I felt the blacks night, the city lights, the light cast by burning buildings and surroundings.. all of it was fantastic.

The VISR doesn't help the attractiveness, but I tried not to use it when possible.

Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

It it possible that its being used as a way to reduce load times? You've got to load those models into memory anyway. Doing it in the lobby might offset a bit of the work.
