Hideki Kamiya shits all over Kotaku

I wonder if the difference between "Gaijin" and "Gaikokujin" is something along the lines of "Black People" vs. "African Americans" ...

Maybe roughly so.

But the words mean "outside person" and "outside of the country person" respectively. So maybe it's best to say that one is "outsider" and one is "foreigner".

It's exactly that: gainjin is offensive but gaikokujin is an acceptable word to describe foreigners. I remember an article with an interview about what the Yakuza think about SEGA's Yakuza series, one of the yakuzas scolded his partner because he said "gaijin", telling him to use "gaikokujin" instead. It's a bit weird but it's true.

Sure, but it's offensive to the Japanese (definitely not all though, as people's anecdotes have shown) in a peculiarly Japanese way. Like how a Japanese person could be offended if you use short form verb conjugations when you're younger than them or they're your boss - they could even use short forms with you but be offended if you use it with them.

In English, I don't care what verb conjugation they originally used or whether they're calling me a "foreign country person" or a "foreign person". As I shouldn't, because I'm not Japanese and these slight distinctions don't matter outside of Japanese society.

All that matters are intentions, and Kamiya's were just to commiserate with his Japanese followers (hence writing in Japanese) over how rude and idiotic this specific person and that specific person were being (hence the insulting epithets) in their lack of understanding of Japan (hence "foreigner"). I think that's fair. In fact, if you were to ask me to summarise the situation, I'd say that a number of obnoxious, rude Westerners (aka. foreigners) expressed ignorance, blanket statements, and notions of the inferiority of the Japanese. Oh wow I'm so racist against myself for dismissing their opinions because they're not from Japan!

I really find Kamiya's disinterest in PC gaming to be quite funny. I totally feel the same way. I couldn't care less either about the PC gaming scene. I have like 2 games on steam (and they're both Ys related) and that's it.

Today's been a pretty good day in terms of Kamiya rage. I kind of echo his hatred of PC port begging recently.

I'm sorry but this is completely dickish. Regardless of all else, he's being an asshat.

My initial respect I had is lowering because now it's just like two monkeys throwing shit at each other.

You're missing the point, I think. Kamiya doesn't care about PC any less than he cares about any "platform". He's said multiple times he just designs games, everything else is up to the business-guys like Inaba and the publishers.

He's being straightforward, and also repeating himself ad nauseum.

I'd say the same thing no matter what he was.

I dunno. Wasn't that when he was getting all the constant tweets about steam and PC gaming becuase of the Kotaku article? I mean, you can imagine that he'd be annoyed of them, especially as some of them could be quite rude.

Some of them were probably rude but there's nothing wrong with PC gaming to warrant his dismissive comments.

Wow.

So you have a reason for everything you don't care about? How do you ever get anything done?

If I don't care about something, it's because I don't know it exists, or I've forgotten about it, there's something about it I don't like, or I'm uninformed...etc. Those are reasons. All opinions have some rationale behind them, though you don't neccessarily actively think about them.

He has a reason, incidentally:

He said he, personally has "no interest" in PC

This isn't about his views as a developer, someone just asked him what his thoughts were on PC gaming.

He doesn't have to, but people can be curious.

To me it seems like people are forcing him to take interest to things he never had any interest in the first place, which is why he's pissed off.

And I am willing to bet he said "Fuck off" not because of that single twit but rather to barrage of twits from people saying the same thing.

...yes? Even if his reason for his disinterest is as stupid as a CPU fell over and kill his cat or something, so what?

Nothing. I'm not saying he needs to defend his views, but he has reasons and people are naturally curious. People shouldn't force him into taking interest either.

What a douche.

Yup. One of the biggest one's in the game industry. Unfortunately there are some who are such big sycophant's of his ( bordering on becoming a religious cult) that criticizing him is a travesty.

Could you point out an instance or two demonstrating his being one of the biggest douches in the industry outside of his Twitter account which he uses to respond (or not respond) to questions and/or post other musings?

I would love to see some examples.
