VG247 Rumor: PS4 > Xbox 720; NowGamer Rumor: Xbox 720 > PS4

Teraflops are fun for fanboy pissing contests but don't amount to much when it comes to the real world. As far as gaming is concerned anyway. There are several components to take into account: CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage... You could put a 16 gazillion teraflops CPU in your computer and the graphics card would still be the bottle neck...

Just take this generation. While the PS3 has the theoretical processing power advantage, some would argue that most of the multiplatform games run better on 360. Then others would argue that there is no way in hell the 360 could run Uncharted...

My take: I don't give a flying fuck. Just take my money. My body is ready for all your god damn toys.
Quoting this excellent post that nobody will give a buck about. You good peoples, Green.

Someone wants to kill me?

100% honest, there was a time I believed we'd get super powerful consoles that were a lot larger than 2 TF. I was wrong though, and I've come to accept that. Go through my post history where I've argued tooth and nail for a 4 TF machine.

You're reading the specs complete wrong. The power on the PS4 DDR5 ram is so much better than the DDR3 that the PS4 will atleast have a 50% raw power advantage over the xbox. Not to mention the power consumption will be far less because DDR5 is designed to have less power consumption but much more power output. The PS4 has more teraflops meaning it can render more graphic stuff and better FXAA. And more important, they invented blu ray so they'll be more familiar with how to read/write from/to the disc which will probably mean (estimation here) a speed boost of atleast 20%. In total that's almost 100% more power than the xbox.

Only 100%? What a fail, I remember the 300% more powerful citations when it came to PS3 vs 360 (based on Cell, but is GPU the new CPU for this gen)..

It's like Sony almost deliberately go out their way to ensure they have much larger numbers just to pander to the people who react to that crap..

Mind you, they may indeed have a balanced design that can make the most out of their big numbers, in which case, MS need to be very afraid..

I'm happy to sit back, buy both and as long as they are both there or there abouts, I'll be a happy camper..

Let's hope the Nowgamer rumour is true. It would be funny if PS4 wasn't as powerful as the Xbox 720.

I'm laughing here not about the articles, more about the change of subjetc in few time from ps4 > x720 to x720 > ps4.

Serious press ...

All these specs are foreign to me, but the next XBOX requiring an online connection to play games is such bullshit. I have a 10 MBPS satellite connection that works pretty well with the PS3 and WiiU, but for whatever reason the 360 will connect to my internet connection but "limit" me to strictly offline functions because (I'm guessing) satellite provides a slow ping. Group that with my connection going out in storms, and I can't see me buying the next Xbox anywhere nearlaunch if online required is true.

Yes I expect both Sony and MS will have that for their games and systems as a means to help control more of what goes on and to help control used games sales, not realizing it'll also have an effect on friends letting other friends borrow games. I also don't see the issue with these specs and fail to see why some people are getting so angry and bent out of shape. They aren't souped up PC specs no, everyone knew both consoles want to be media centers, just as their predecessors want to be today so none of it should "shock" anyone, but even with all the extra fluff that'll be added, eating up memory and resources they will still be superior to their predecessors.

Is ray tracing beyond the scope of what next gen consoles could offer?

Yes.

As if Sony's plans are different. Sony also wants to offer a media device, and take over the living room.

The only manufacturer that is only in it for the games, and more specifically the games that they want to create is Nintendo.

And since when is 3GB reserved for the OS something that is now a fact of life? We are talking about 3 times the amount of ram in comparison to the Orbis rumor. Are they going to offer 3 times the features? I don't know, but Durango delivering 3 times the features wouldn't be good business for Sony.

Sony has their media services that they can tie into the system that likely won't need so much ram. Music Unlimited, new PSN store with integrated Video services, PS Mobile, Minis. I'm sure (at least I hope) they will have features for Viaos, Xperias, and other Sony products can communicate with.

You'd best elect to enter some kind of police protection program...

Lets kill that troll.

Dear Iherre,

Do you mind shedding any light?

In my opinion both machines will be very close, with some details in favor for each one, but I think we will have a ps360 situation again with 2 machines very close.

And some details in the articles are simply wrong.

Other devs under NDA have also been beating the same drum. It's going to be a wash again.

I can believe that.

The guy from yesterday praying for no PS360 situation next gen not feeling so hot.

I'm not saying you are way off base, I'm just saying that we can't take it as definite. We can always come up with theories, but that's it.

Why wouldn't they need as much ram? 3 times less ram. How could they use 3 times less the amount of ram than MS (software company) and not offer way less features?
It just doesn't seem reasonable.

The Nowgamer rumor has me scratching my head. Let's put the extraterrestrial Durango specs for a moment, and have a laugh at a rather silly point the author made :
So, aware of Durango far better architecture, Sony decides to up the ante by increasing the RAM and upgrading the GPU...only to have Microsoft come back with a third SOC! In your face!

But are you a developer or what?.

What's sold the PS3 is the same that's sold the 360. FIFA, Cod, BF, Guitar Hero. Have a look at the best selling games for each of the consoles, there are few exclusives in there.

Stop to embarass yourself, really. Clearly you don't know what you are talking about, stop to do a useless console war, with all respect.

But then look at what first party gets out of the ps3 and it kind of does show.

I'm looking really hard and I'm not seeing it. Both first parties have produced some incredible looking games, and some of the best looking games on both consoles are third party multiplatform titles.

Surely the more raw power the better.

No, raw power means very little outside of benchmarking. The amount you can put to good use in everday scenarios is what matters far more, but even that's never been a deciding factor for the majority of people. PS2 was by far the weakest console of its generation, yet it's the most popular home console of all time, cherished by core gamers and casuals alike.

Honestly, I don't think Ps3 and 360 are that close. There's a noticeable advantage when it comes to 1st Party, and I doubt that's due to the systems being very very close in power.

If the difference is 360 - Ps3, then there will be a clear difference when 1st party hits.
