Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

No Guests and No Split Screen are mentioned separately so I assume this will be the first Halo playlist at Max Local Players: 1 (that's not Score Attack)

Unfortunate, but somewhat necessary, especially if they start putting Forge maps into rotation.

I'm really hopeful they learn their lessons with Reach and 4 and either make it max 2 per box, or just don't make a game that can't handle full splitscreen over the internet.

I agree with everything but the forced starting weapons. What if 343's pre-set loadouts are BR and DMR? We'll be able to choose, I'd rather want that than be forced. Pre-set loadouts can be great if implemented correctly and this may be 343's chance to try that out.
I'd place money on BR starts with DMR pickups.

The new competitive list plus the February map pack has the potential (key word) to make Halo 4 much, much better.

Yeah. If they make the necessary changes to make this game more competitive (better) then the maps will be the biggest thing holding the game back. Hopefully the next pack will bring some small symmetrical maps.

Man I really love some of the sounds in this game. The Didact's scanner during Composer, or the reverb after Promethean Vision has been activated. Good stuff.

Oh yeah, dueling it out with the pair of Hunters using thruster pack, what a fun little battle.

If DMR is ordnance and not loadouts, I will be so happy.

I hope the loadouts are BR, Carbine, and LR only.

And no AAs.

I think you could argue Thruster and Holo would integrate well in a competitive environment. Regen Field's pretty balanced too but considering they don't want people staying still or sitting on it in a hill, etc., I can see why you wouldn't have it.

Thruster could make for some sweet fast paced gameplay.

Actually, that's a good idea. Classic Halo + Thrusters. Who wants to test this out?

If its decent, we're gonna have to play the shit out of that playlist to make sure it isn't removed.

And make the changes global.

I was doing Episode 5 earlier as I hadn't bothered with it due to the bad feedback it got, but I decided to do it anyway to make some sense of Episode 6. Me and a friend got bored and decided to try and do the missions in certain ways. We meleed through 3 and 4 and goosed on 5 which was awesome. Nothing like no scoping an Elite in the head from considerable distance.

On 3 or 4 you get some Hunters which we decided to punch to death and it was fantastic watching it spin in circles and swing wildly trying to land a hit, which it did a few times. Shame they removed the glitch where you could stand on a Hunters head and make it dance.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be going in, but that may have been because I went in with the intention of messing around and not doing it 'normally'. May have to try this more often in Spartan Ops.

Changes aren't there yet.

Although the forge playlist is pretty good. Might be because Truskill doesn't really work anymore and we get matched with scrubs though.

Only map I'm really just not digging is Garrote. It might work fine on Doubles, but it's a chore with 4v4.

King on Simplex(?) was really fun, they did a fairly good job of making you not a sitting duck while in the center hill, yet still vulnerable.

Introducing static weapon spawns, forced starting weapons, and eliminating sprint would be easy changes that could be introduced into this playlist. They are taking a step in the right direction but they could take a bigger step.

Eliminating a core aspect of the movement in the game is not going to happen. Just because modders did it doesn't mean there is a snowball's chance in hell of it happening officially.

Do agree on forcing starting weapons to BR though (and static spawn positions). DMR fucks with sightlines way too much.

If Playlist Bravo has traditional weapon spawns, no JiP, no instant respawn, and non-customizable loadouts that means it's pretty damn close to the Halo game I want to play.

You should play again! It's still flawed in glaring and horrible ways, but it's also kind of fun!

Gotta drive cross-country next week, but will be back on Feb. 4th; I'd be up for some hijinx then. I expect Monster Balls ft. KittensDX to reunite sometime around then.

EDIT: Assuming I'm not eaten by wolves in the middle of Nebraska or something.

Eliminating is a strong word, but I do think it should be disabled. If not for the competitive list, then hopefully in a classic one. Or really, just add the option into the menu as it's already in the game.

It is because then we can have some nice forge maps.

Did you guys play Halo 4 in splitscreen? It is horrible

I play splitscreen match making all the time and while most maps do run like absolute dog shit, complex and big team maps being the worst offenders, it's part of why I have always enjoyed halo. some maps have no real issues though, adrift and haven for example. I suppose the new forge maps were pretty bad in term of splitscreen performance though.

sucks that splitscreen is so bad in halo 4. outside of framerate issues, there are also things like reticules being fucking huge (are they even scaled down?) so accuracy goes out the window, the tiny all caps killfeed and scoreboard is even harder to read, motion trackers elevation indicators are a bitch to make out even on a 50" TV, and so on

I suppose i can see why removing splitscreen in this new playlist is the only answer. it's a shame.

bungie seemed to actually care about making the splitscreen experience just as good as fullscreen. part of the reason why I'll miss them making halo games.

Bravos settings are great news. I just hope they come sooner rather than later. There is a shit ton of new AAA games coming out and you have to assume the population count of halo 4 will drop further.

Even if Gears of war:judgment is a further bastardization of the series, I'm still going to put my all into trying to enjoy the multiplayer. Then you have bioshock:infinite, dead space 3, crysis 3 etc. Beating those will eat up almost all my free time.

If anything, I hope 343 learns better time management in the future. When you say you'll release something, stick to it or let people know EXACTLY why there is a delay. And get some better communication with the community. We shouldn't need to hear about cut features from people playing leaked copies or not knowing what's in the limited edition like a few days from launch.

Also, I'd have thought the first thing to go in the new competitive playlists would be personal ordnance. Instant respawns sucks, but giving people free binary rifles or rocket launchers sucks more.

I wouldn't quit out of frustration every single day and go play flood or oddball if each map of Infinity slayer wasn't 2-3 people with snipers, few people with splasers, some with incineration cannons etc. Add in the ammo perks or no flinch and something like a sniper or fuel rod cannon becomes a game changer. Seriously why someone deserves a 15 shot fuel rod cannon on haven because they got a few assists is mind-boggling.

Hmm. I wonder if it'd be possible to do something like:

BR / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Thruster / Dexterity / Resupply
Carbine / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Thruster / Dexterity / Resupply
Light Rifle / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Thruster / Dexterity / Resupply
BR / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Hologram / Dexterity / Resupply
Carbine / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Hologram / Dexterity / Resupply
Light Rifle / Pistol / 1 Frag, 1 Pulse / Hologram / Dexterity / Resupply

This loadout could be deleted if you couldn't use 7 loadouts in pre-baked map ones for whatever reason.

I think my favorite part about the competitive settings are Friendly Fire On

I miss when firing a weapon or throwing a grenade had consequences

Also excited to see it launch Mid-February and have slayer and objective in one list. Now about that voting...

And from Frankie over on the Waypoint thread
Friendly Fire and accidental betrayals have been part of the Halo competitive experience since the days when we had to take our CRT TV sets to other people's basements and wreck their circuit breakers. Shoot straight son.

More Frankles:

Personally I think join in progress would occasionally be helpful when teammates have to bail. Or are jerks, but ultimately this combined with CSR means that people will, on balance, prefer the predictability that no JIP will bring. The CSR experience, which will work on basically any phone, will work basically exactly the same as Halo 3, but you simply glance at your phone or other smartglass device to see your current skill rank. This may be marginally less simple than seeing it in game, but the fact that it will make CSR less appealing to scumbags and de-rankers is well worth the 'inconvenience' of looking at your phone.

This is the beginning of some other competitive efforts we will be spending time on this year.

Black Ops II is literally the only game I've ever played with absolutely no redeeming qualities. Halo will be too if it continues to take even the smallest amount of mechanics and concepts from it.

I'm still not buying that. Thankfully the monitor I game on is just my second computer monitor, so it's a non issue. But the app is more or less non-functional on my phone so I feel for the people who don't have any convenient ways of checking.

Hoping they'll come around eventually, still excited about this news. Best news since the game launched, really.
