XSEED's 2013 Lineup

Looks like I'll pick up Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles+ on Steam.

I wanted to hear news on Legend of Heroes: 2nd Chapter though.

This, I love ys and all but goddamn only one LoH game has been released so far by XSeed vs five ys games (four if you don't count Felghana's PC version release).

Looks like we were right on some of those hints. Its gonna be a long wait for ys but well worth it. Killer is dead is something else I'm looking forward too and I wonder what else XSEED has in store for the year

I feel like I owe Xseed for being so consistently amazing -- beyond purchasing their games, of course!

Maybe we (GAF) should chip in to get them something awesome to put in the office.

Cool. Interested in finding out what the + in Chronicles means. Celceta was a bit of a disappointment for me, but it's still pretty good. I'm glad others will get to play it.

Ok, well at least Ys Celceta is something I can add to my potential list of Vita games to get.

I want to build up a nice list before I actually spend money on the thing.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Why a disappointment? Just wondering if it's close to Ys 7 in terms of length and gameplay.

Hmm..

I watched a video of Ys Celceta...it kinda turned me away.
Can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's the perspective or something. Like if a few graphics were changed around somebody could call it a new Phantasy Star Online, TERA, or any other Action-RPG.

Yay XSEED!!! Some very good stuff on that list including one of my personal favorite series in Rune Factory. And I'm also very excited to see Y's show up for the Vita although waiting until the Fall is going to be tough.

Thank you, XSEED!

Celcetaaa!!! Can this day get any better for the Vita? Hope it also comes to the EU or at least as physical release so I can import.

XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, is celebrating the new year by announcing a robust lineup of action and RPG titles scheduled for North American release in 2013.

So is there no hope for Europe? :(
I could import Celceta if they release a retail version but thanks to 3DS's region lock i'll be unable to play RF4.

In terms of gameplay, it's generally improved over Ys 7 in every way. My gripes lie with the area design and the weird way they decided to do the story. If you haven't played Dawn of Ys or Mask of the Sun, this part is unlikely to matter to you.

Are these recent-ish handheld Ys games (7, Celceta) on the same level of pipe-hitting action as Oath in Felghana and Origin are? I want to jump in on Hard mode, run and fight really fast, and die a whole lot.

Yes! I'm so happy Ys: Celceta is being translated. I cannot wait.

Edit: This is why region free is so good. I'm in the UK but importing Ys will be made incredibly easy for me thanks to no region locking.

Can't speak for Celceta, but I don't think Seven is on the same level as Oath and Origin, still good fun. Quite a bit different though, and a tad easy (and that's coming from someone who played entirely without flash guard).

Were people really that worried that XSEED would abandon Vita? 50K units sold is a huge success for them; they don't exactly need to sell to a large userbase.

I'm going to assume less text to translate mean lower localization costs and a greater chance to turn a profit. I do hope that more LoH games get released in the near future.

And on Vita they have:
- high gaming IQ core consumers who are interested in non-mainstream releases.
- a robust digital distro service those consumers like, reducing the need for retail chain support.
- PS+ from Sony which offers a secondary profit model to wring additional money out of titles after release.

Its an ideal world for niche developers/publishers, at least as ideal as any environment can be. They aren't going to get stepped on by the major 3rd parties, they aren't dependent on retail to move units, and they have multiple avenues to monetize games that don't require significant sell through to be profitable.

You mean XSEED, Sony, and a host of indies keeping Vita alive, right?

2013 = Year of the Vita.

I think you're deluded if you believe the games announced so far will keep the Vita "alive". But as a gamer with certain tastes, I'm pretty happy, more or less.
