Like, all of it. But holy crap that's a great deal. I planned on taking linear algebra over the summer instead, which would amount to about $400 after credits and book. What the fuck is wrong with me?

I had planned on visiting my cousin in Milan, then to Rome, and then south to our family in Roccella Ionica and Reggio. Maybe Bianco.

Do that, sometime.
It's a beautiful country to visit, not nearly as beautiful to live in for various reasons.

Aaanyway, back to the things that make us proud:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GoX_-XwN5xg

Mina, one of the best female vocalists ever

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0mUARXKGhMM

Lucio dalla, one of the best male vocalists ever. Amazing songwriter too.

Now these are both 'divertissements' but there's several proper, beautiful songs for those interested.

I believe these guys are rather well known

The legend himself. To put things in perspective, Quentin tarantino is a huge fan of his movies, when he met the guy, he called him 'maestro' :)

Lino Beeenfi is currently sitting about 10 meters from where I'm typing this. That's all I can say for privacy / professional reasons. :) A true legend indeed. 'Bizona' forever.

Also, Marco Masini is the greatest
Well, i can't speak for the rest of the country, but in the Venice zone people usually talk about him as shit

Well, in my area often you can find some mobile trucks/bar, at night, with diesel engines and dubious quality sandwiches, which are a godsend for hungry people when everything else is closed.
They are usually called "svunch" or "lurido", which is the dialect for dirty.
Dalle mie parti si chiama il paninaro "onto", ovveo sporco.
High five bro:D

mi fa strano a manetta scrivere in italiano su neogaf:D:D

Approfitto del topic italiano per chiedere delucidazioni su una meme a me incomprensibile, ovvero "my gimmies are rustled" et simila.

Fondamentalmente, non riesco a tradurlo, l'unica cosa che so è che rust è ruggine.Qualcuno me la spiega\contestualizza\traduce?Birre in palio!

(just asking explanations about a meme)

Love this thread.

My family is mainly from Sicily. They moved to the US in the early 1910's.

Italian Gaf is the best Gaf.

My father was born and raised near Cassino. I was there last year and have visited many times. Love it. I was the Guido culture here in the United States would die a quick death. Nothing like the reality.

Ugh I've always wanted to go to Italy. I'm half Italian, and dear god do I love the food my family makes. One of these days...when I have money for a flight. Luckily I have a good amount of family there so finding a place to stay won't be hard.

The magic Italy videos were something quite expensive, but nothing comes close to the 40 milion € for italia.it . Since I'm in the IT field, every time I see that cost and then what a piece of shit was that thing I die a little inside...

I'd like to move to italy, how is the jobmarket there? Anyone work as a mechanical engineer there?

I wouldn't know about engineering field but overall the situation is pretty bad.
Even if you could manage to find a job be prepared to earn less than half (if not 1/10th) of the American average, with a similar cost of living. And that's before taxes, which in Italy are almost gotten to 50%.

EDIT:Also, i really want to hear what restoftheglobe-GAF thinks about us spaghetti eaters

It is like my own country Spain, but with a bit more money, a far better justice system and far less people hating each other's guts. Would love to visit someday, my travel instincts are itching with all these awesome pics you guys posted! :D

Subscribing to this thread! I love Italy... the culture, food, people, all of it, though I don't have a drop of Italian blood in me.

My husband is half-Calabrian and half Swiss (German-speaking). We've been to Italy several times together and also with the Italian side of his family. It's nice that Italy is so close by. There are still soooo many more places to see, though. I should probably buckle down and learn Italian. I understand a lot of conversational stuff from listening to his family members but I can't really structure a sentence myself.

Albinoni:

Anyone been to Bar Turrisi? It's a penis themed bar in Castelmola, Sicily (it's the town literally on the top of the hill above Taormina). It's really really awesome (don't let the whole penis thing bother you). They have almond wine (Vino alla Mandorla) that they serve with a slice of Sicilian lemon peel. If you go to eastern Sicily (especially if you go to Taormina) definitely make a night out of it.

Also, I'll say this, of everywhere I've been in Europe Italian women are far and away the most attractive.

As much as I love my country, trust me, you don't want to move here.
Come here as a tourist? That's perfect.
Moving here permanently? Do it only if you're a masochist.

And as they already told you the job market is miserable.

I think you didn't know what Zozzone means in italian since you actually ate sandwiches there :)

Italians have a funny sense of humor :p

(It means pervert, right?)

At least that's what my Italian teacher told me. I need to study again and practice more.

I might try and go back and teach at an international school after I get my masters.

Is I possible for an American to get a job in Italy? If anyone knows anyone who would offer a position I'd like to move. I miss it there. Don't care what city/town.

Never mind. Seems from reading the last few pages it isn't the place to be. Hah.

You could be a (crash) test driver for Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani. Actually, I don't think they crash test those cars.

I met plenty of foreigners working in Italy (not counting the knock off goods on the streets). Mostly they worked at bars, but if you'd really want, you could find something.

May be easier for me to look into teaching in Turkey instead.

it depends, really.
It's not too bright, at the moment, but i know many Americans (and people from Central and South America, and so on) working here.
You might still find a job, depends on what you want to / can do.
To be honest, though, most people in their 20's and 30's are dreaming of going to work abroad.
A country that doesn't reward talent (unless we're talking about football) has no future.

Oh, but it does have a glorios past

It depends on what you're looking into, there is always request for English teachers.
If you want to find a job in some other field keep in mind that without knowing Italian it's extremely difficult to find something.

You could be a (crash) test driver for Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani. Actually, I don't think they crash test those cars.

Of course they do, they're required to do it in order to sell them as roadworthy.
And they have to be perfectly working models either, not just production scraps or prototypes...
