i'm pretty sure at this point that Online Zelda Hipsters™ have decided that Link to the Past sucks too and that the only good zelda game in their favorite game series is an unlabeled prototype in miyamoto's basement

I thought the Zelda hipsters loved WW? Fuck it, I can't keep up anymore.

The amazing part is wiiu owners are actually wishing for couple of Mario games this fall again

Nintendo milks mario because it's fan base never demand anything else. Personally, they just cater there fan base at the end

They made Grand Theft Auto 4?

Edit: Oh misread: They had to create the highest first party game this gen because the actual highest rated game wasn't available on their hardware. :-D

GTA IV isn't exclusive, nor first party. Irrelevant to the chain of quotes, but if you want to start something new then please continue.

Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy.

Sony has never really had first party titles, just third party titles that were exclusive to Playstation.

They still have more exclusive than Microsoft, IIRC.

Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War, Little Big Planet, Killzone, Resistance, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly, etc.

sony should have kept picking on MS, with Nintendo you've reached another hardcore layer. best wishes, and donate your organs.

Because anyone that gives a shit about gameplay would realize that they all play completely different.

But hey, leave it to a Sony fan to focus on presentation over the actual gameplay.

lol And with that, I'm out of this thread for dinner, 11/10 best thread so far

If gameplay is all that mattered, why continue using the same characters over and over and over? Hell, they won't even flip the roles around outside some obscure stuff. Imagine if they'd launched the WiiU with a Bowser & Peach vs Mario platformer. That'd at least felt different.

Why are people more interested in a meta observation of the thread than addressing the issues that Mario games are played out?

I thought the Zelda hipsters loved WW? Fuck it, I can't keep up anymore.

It's split between those who love WW, those who love MM, those who love LttP, and those who think that any game after Zelda 1 or Zelda 2 is awful because they lack freedom and whimsy and soul and other fake things

Do some people in this thread really not realize how releasing 22 games starring Mario and Co. since 2005 or whatever year could be... oversaturation of the character(s)/universe, even if the games are in different genres? The fact that almost anything that sells well for Nintendo has Mario on the cover isn't really a secret, and I don't understand how you could get so defensive when that's mocked a bit.

Just because the games are in different genres doesn't mean Mario isn't being milked.

Is it just not understanding the ad in the first place? It's not "oh look the exact same game", it's "oh, look, another game with Mario in it". And there are WAY more games when Mario in them than other characters. I don't see how this can even be an argument.

GameRankings vs. Metacritic, actually. The former puts both Super Mario Galaxy games above GTA IV, but that's another can of worms. (A can with a hastily scrawled label that reads "LISTWARZ.")
GameRanking uses numbers behind a period. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS.

Thank fucking god.

Seriously, GAF hasn't had something silly to revel in for a while now.

@toddhunter: I'm a 80sWindwaker baby and know that shit isn't true. twilight Princess is the new old hype and Zelda 1 is "The one all of them should be like now™."

Even if they weren't exclusive, MS can't trick us with an xbox and its ads and money sucking.
Nintendo have bailed out of trying to impress adult gamers.

Good old Sony, doesn't disappoint and stays true for the golden age of gamers. Sure it costs a little bit more initially but it always more worthwhile in the long run.

Oh shit I've been tricked! Those clever devils, what was I thinking? How could I be satisfied getting all that money sucked from me, while drowning in ads?

2000 posts in 3 hours. I think it's fair to say that ad was super effective.
Nah, most of the people are here for the trolls and jokes and maybe to see a banning or two.
The posts were really entertaining for a while.
Now people are starting to post without reading the thread though, it's getting really boring.

I know this has probably been brought up before but can I propose the idea of a temporary console war sub-forum? Most heavily moderated boards have a safe zone for people to go and have fun in. This thread is phenomenal and the most fun I've had online in a while but I really don't want to get banned.

I wouldn't go that far. It's not like, say Paper Mario/M&L = RPGs dolled up Mario style. Many of those franchises have unique takes on their respective genres, and also explore different facets of the Mario-verse, if that's your thing.

I would go that far. Even in Paper Mario games, which I love, the amount of reoccurring Mario characters and themes is astronomical. It's almost a gag at this point.

And as you said, "explore different facets of the Mario-verse, if that's your thing"... it may have been a thing at one time, but that time is past because Nintendo has whored the series so far into the ground that they don't even need to dig the grave site; it's already in a coffin.

And unlike many, I don't actually think most of the side Mario games are that good - I don't think the Mario sports titles are particularly good anymore (Mario Golf exception, sometimes), and I don't believe any of the Mario party games have ever been good. And they long since destroyed the appeal of their Mario kart series by continually introducing retarded, skilless weapons that coddle shit players. For me, it's really Mario platformers and Mario RPGs that still hold any value for me, and they've diluted that too with what I feel are many mediocre NSMB titles (even the best one, NSMB Wii, takes about nearly half of the game before any levels with the sort of challenge and brazen creativity Nintendo is known for enter the fray). They have NSMB games, and then they take appreciation of visuals and music out of the equation because they're so bland and unimaginative approaches to the Mario universe.

So, yeah, in my view, it's all a symptom of the same problem. Yes, they're different genres, but even the different genre titles are on iteration 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. And still utilize many of the same abilities (jump, fire flower, etc) and characters (Mario, Toad, Peach, Bowser, blargh) and same world themes (Desert, Grass, Ice, Lava, etc) as all the other ones do. They put little variations and spins on the themes, but we're far past that being enough to make it OK anymore as far as I'm concerned.

It already exists, it's called gametrailers and gamefaqs.

Not really true.

Nintendo shines in certain departments like Super Mario Galaxy 2's platforming mechanics and level design, but they also make some unforgivable or embarrassing game design decisions in other instances.

Because every Sony effort is gold.

See, this is why I will never ally myself with Sony. Nintendo cares about delivering great experiences for core gamers (NSMBU, Pikmin 3, X) instead of shallow cinematic experiences and aggressive advertising intended to appeal to the lowest common denominator hipster gamer.

lol Oh you! you almost got me

At the end of the day, I agree Sony was loosing its exclusives, but like any good company they are coming back stronger then ever. Uncharted, Sly, Ratchet and Clank, TLOU etc.

on the one hand, this kind of stuff is always funny to me and I appreciate it in some weird way. Nothing wrong with some smack talking and its not like its anything knew. It feels like a throwback.

on the other; sony's way too over the top and stupid about it, in the sense that their whole thing is mocking others while (understandably, and I dont mean anything bad by this) getting ideas from them or straight up copying. Just weird. It bothers me and puts me off their company. They're like the big silly bullies of the console business

dont really care that much when its fun like this though
