Last month, Shin’en announced a final name for its Jett Rocket 3DS project: Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai. While we patiently wait for its arrival, the studio was kind enough to share new details as well as a first look at the game’s logo with Nintendo Everything.

Jett Rocket II will offer both 2D and 3D gameplay. It focuses on “jump’n'run action”, and players will need to use a variety of gadgets to progress through levels.

Shin’en is once again showing off its technical prowess, this time on the 3DS. Jett Rocket II will support full 3D while maintaining 60 frames-per-second.

Fortunately, Jett Rocket II isn’t too far off. Shin’en has already finished work on all of the levels and is currently in the beta testing phase. Once the developer finishes bug-checking and polishes the game to its fullest, it should be ready for prime time.

Shin’en is aiming for a Q1 release for Jett Rocket II on the 3DS eShop. Look out for the first screenshots later this month.

Can't wait, since I heard so many great things from the original!

Yay Jett Rocket II! Would like to see it on WiiU though. However I can see this game being good on the go.

I adored the first one. Reminded me so much of Bomberman 64 and platformers of the era, and gorgeous too. Can't wait for a trailer and screens of this! Shinen is amazing.

60fps really improves the look of 3D and its ease on my eyes, I wish more developers aimed to reach that benchmark. I never played the original, but I will be paying attention to this.

They should work on another FAST Racing game. Closest thing we had to F-Zero on a Nintendo console this gen.

Looks awesome. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first game, but it was fun in its own right. The fixed perspective 2.5D gameplay seems to really suit this title, and Shin'en always deserves more money. I can't wait to see more of this.

There also seems to be 3D levels...

Can't wait to see what they pull off next on Wii U.... They are proving they are some of the best devs in the business.... That engine they have is amazing. Nintendo shouldn't waste time and buy these guys quick because someone is gonna be smart enough to... Sony?

For whatever reason, they do seem to be unrelentingly loyal to Nintendo, and I assume that they've been successful enough in that.

I suspect that they like to focus on a single platform and eke out every last bit of performance about it rather than spreading themselves thinly. Dunno if there's any particular *reason* it's always Nintendo ones, or if it's just the fact that they have a standing relationship with them.

The first Jett Rocket is an absolute marvel of engineering; as is Shin'en's futuristic racer F.A.S.T. Racing League.

I anticipate each new game from them with much fervour and, as someone else has already mentioned in this thread, they are usually good for a day one purchase with zero regrets.

It's an odd mix of screenshots we've been getting.

At one point there was a Jett Rocket game in development for 3DS that focused on the jetski aspects of the original. Jett Rocket: Super Surf or something it was called. That was in addition to Jett Rocket 2, the side-scrolling jump and run we're seeing now. I can imagine they may have combined the two into one product.

For whatever reason, they do seem to be unrelentingly loyal to Nintendo, and I assume that they've been successful enough in that.

It should be noted that Manfred Linzner mentioned in an interview that they did indeed have Xbox 360 and Ps3 development kits in the office. In other words, they know full well how those platforms work and what they offer. Whatever that means for their Nintendo loyalty, I'm unsure of, but one has to think they've at least considered developing for the competition. And yet, clearly Nintendo exclusivity has certain perks that we may be unaware of. And honestly, as a gamer I'm not going to complain. Exclusivity leads to a level of technical and gameplay excellence that will largely remain unmatched by multi-format titles (in my opinion). That Shin'en's exclusive development is linked to Nintendo platforms, where first party software set a (very) high bar for third-parties to match up to, is just a bonus, meaning we all (as gamers) benefit from their exclusivity in the end.

It's definitely a mix of 2D and 3D plattforming. Reminds me of Mario 3D Land.

Well, as a studio they started development on the GBC, followed by the GBA and DS. So, being exclusive to Nintendo platforms is probably something that just happened -- it's not like they don't benefit from it, either. Even on WiiWare or the eShop their games have to face less competition, which plays into their hands, considering that their gameplay is never quite as good as their tech.

Keep in mind that Shinen was formed by people who were very active in the demo scene. I think trying to get the most out of "weaker" platforms if part of the fun for them.

Also, no one is going to buy Shinen. They are way too small (just a handful of people) to justify anyone's attention, since it's not a company that you can expand a lot without losing the reasons why you bought them to begin with. I doubt that they event want to be bought too.
