Vengeance is born in the fires of betrayal in this prequel to the God of War franchise. Six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood - tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved. Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken... Sentenced to an eternity chained within a prison for the living damned, Kratos battles insanity at the hands of the Furies. He will be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins, and the clarity to avenge his family. Ascension is cannonically the first game in the series. The will show a more humane Kratos, at this point in his life, he's not the angry yelling sociopath.

Game Director Todd Pappy
Quote:
"Kratos will not be yelling this whole game, I mean, he's not going to be Emo Kratos or go and give everyone a hug or flowers. He's still an anti-hero in many ways, but it was one of those things where we give people a look at his human side so fans can relate to him better and understand some of the stuff he went through when he was younger."
Quote:
No one can argue that Kratos is angry. However, our aim in this installment of Kratos’ story is to try and show a bit more of his humanity.

Producer Ariel Lawrence, on voice over motion capture
No one can argue that Kratos is angry. With everything that’s happened to him over the years, he has every right to be. He’s killed — either accidentally or intentionally — everyone he’s ever cared about. He’s been lied to, chained up, run through, tortured, and cast into the depths of Hades several times. If I was him, I’d be angry too. Our aim in this installment of Kratos’ story is to try and show a bit more of his humanity. To do this, we incorporated voice over motion capture, or “vo-mocap”, into our cinematic pipeline.

The really exciting part of “vo-mocap” is that it gives our voice actors an opportunity to work together in a scene. Delivery, timing, and efforts all come more naturally because the actors are able to play off of each other. They see how far apart they are from each other physically. They can watch emotions play out on each other’s faces and respond appropriately. They can whisper. The technology we have now is awesome. On the first God of War, we might have been able to show the actors concept art, and possibly a playblast of animation that was in progress. Now we can load up the game environment and the character’s model and rig, and show a rough solve of the actor’s own performance in real time between takes.

Weapon system: The same as previous GoW games. Kratos can now steal weapons from his enemies, they can be combined with the Blades of Chaos for powerful secondary attacks.

Life Cycle: is a new ability for manipulating time. It is used to rebuild destroyed structures aswel as in combat to slow down enemies. It does not drain Kratos' magic, insteadd it recharges on its own. Its very similar to the Amulet of the Fates from GoW II.

Wait, does the US get the special edition that's just the steelbook and soundtrack? What about the controller+game edition?

I suggested God of War Ascension OT - Trophy Furies in the demo thread. I guess not having a subtitle is actually pretty original though lol.

Anyway, I feel like I've said all I had to say in the previous threads. Can't wait for the game to arrive.

Does anyone know if the Last of Us demo on the disc or do they just provide a code for you to download the demo at a later date?

Although I'll be occupied with heart of the swarm and the reviews are not that stellar, I'll get this day 1.
I am just ready for some brutal spectacle.

Amazing game - finish it last Sunday. Most of the reviews are quite unfair toward the game :/

I can't understand how every CoD title is mostly more of the same and gaming related media give 9 and higher scores, but when it's God of War, for instance, it's not good to be more of the (pretty good) same, plus GoW:A also have multiplayer.

I personally work for one of the bigger Eastern Europe news related online media and give the GoW:A quite positive review.

For a big fan of God of War 2 like myself (didn't like GoW3 that much), GoW:A is revelation.

Man, the sequence in that gif looked amazing on my 42'' TV, but down-scaled to gif format it looks positively next gen. Incredible.

Same with halo, and that has had like what, 6 titles released that are shooters? There is great disinterest with sony making more entries to any of their IPs however.
