Borderlands 2: I don't know how far you've gotten but this is a flower that takes time to bloom. Bored? Ignore the optionals so you do not out level the story missions. Further play through 2 or TVHM is another experience.

10 hours, I'm playing in the same way like the first one, I do everything I can, do not get me wrong the game is not bad but is just the same.. again... without the surprise factor..

I didn't find any challenge in Borderlands 2. You got 2 options 1). Do the sidequests to level up and get higher level loot to finished the latter story missions with bullet sponge enemy's quicker = long ass time spent grinding or 2). Skip said optional mission and plough on with the dull as story but find out that your really under powered but the enemy ai is rubbish = long as time spent circle strafing and shooting.

Said this to a few friends and they were all like 'but it's better playing it co-op'. That a lame excuse if I've ever heard one. I bet eating a shit sandwich is better with friends but that doesn't take away from the fact you're still chomping down on a shit sandwich. My point, Borderlands 2 is definitely not for me, ever.

This industry is beyond saving.

Best of all is that you can get 3 and all it's dlc for cheaper than the season pass on it's own on UK Steam. Talk about gouging customers eh.

Only fun part about Borderlands was playing Zer0 and dashing all over the place. I only played as much as I did because of co-op, even then I still got bored after three days. Almost 0 variety.

I'm a loot-whore game fiend and I only ever made it through one playthrough of Borderlands 2 before I had enough.

Somethin' wrong with that game.

Yup me and a couple of friends all played through BL1 a few times but none of us could put more than one run through 2. I guess the design problems with that game are a lot more obvious to me now after a 2nd game than before. It's too boring now.

ass creed for cheap eh?

I HATED the first game (even though I managed to bring myself to beat it) I hear everywhere that 2 improved things significantly but then 3 one dropped the ball.

Do I want to give this series another chance?

AC2 is fucking amazing, worth a try at that price.

*looks back at posts* ...I'm pretty sure all of us just said they are not our thing.

I put 50 hours into Boarderlands. I beat it, but didn't get into the DLC. I don't like the game.
I put 8 hours into Dead Island. Don't have to beat it and face the challenges it provides to know I don't like it.
For some mystery of nature I put 104 hours into Test Drive Unlimited 2. I beat the shit out of that game. I can tell you very comprehensively that I do not like it.
I also could have told you 40 hours in.

I have no idea what experiencing "the challenges" has to do with knowing the fundamentals of the gameplay design and whether you like it or not.

The worst genre, you mean.

We hit a wall in Dead Island last night, but I'd rank it way above Borderlands 2, personally.

Which is to say we're comparing old, wet garbage to garbage, but whatevs.

"Challenges" as you write is the challenge that the games provide.

It's wonderful that you put 162 hours into games you don't like.

I feel justified in blacklisting developers if I've truly given them a full fair chance searching for fun in every inch of their shitty game. I guess I stopped with Dead Island because I have too many other games gifted to me in the backlog to dick around with bad stuff.

In laymans terms, what does AC II Deluxe offer over the standard version? I see something about special maps and treasures, but I've no idea what that actually means.

I've got the regular game on the 360, but I might double dip if the Deluxe version offers something of consequence.

I think but don't quote me on it that you get the 3 Assassin's tombs that were pre order exclusives bundled in. If I remember correctly all PC versions had the 2 extra sequences, that were dlc on consoles, included from the off.

wow. That's bad.

Awesome deal for AC. Going to hold off for now with Bioshock coming out soon. Need to pick up Revelations and 3

To be fair you could probably skip Revelations unless you're a big Ass Creed fan (that sounds a bit rude, sorry:p). It felt like a side story or a what if scenario to me. Story was a bit so so but the introduction of the Hook Blade and the character Yusuf totally made up for it.

Amazon had the Origin version of KoA for $15 with all the DLC in their January madness thing. I ended up getting it for $10 after the $5 credit for buying something in the holiday season. I imagine they'll end up having it in the same $15 range if people are on the fence and want to wait. I don't think it is going to be the Steam version though. But I could be wrong. Tony seems to get Steam versions of games quite a bit.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
There's a reason I save my botanical burns for the Flowers |OT|. Bunch of fucking green thumbs in here.

I'm not sure why you quoted that post of mine, so I do not know what I'm even responding to. But the metric you're using could be applied to taking a series of successive unpleasant bowel movements and it would rank among the greatest game designs in human history.

I just got done playing AC2, its a decent game.

The story is good.

Press X to win controls get very boring about 5 hours in...its a 17 hour game.

About 10 hours in the assassinations get intentionally tedious. For example you had to run around this huge city at one point killing off packs of guards, just to get to the main assassination mission. Needlessly boring.

I can only play an Assassin's Creed once every 3 years or so. Its a decent formula, and boring execution.
Plus I struggle to get into games that are so shallow from both a control and combat perspective.

Ubisoft loves those cash ins.

Good thing is I know this going in hahah. More interested in the 'real world story' and enough of a AC fan to stick it through.

Do you know if it has 4-player split screen on PC? So far my research says that only the console versions has it. :(
It does have it. I saw something here on GAF gushing over split screen in super high resolutions.

That said, F1 Race Stars has a lot of positive response and is currently cheaper, so whatev.

Yet nothing prepares you for the tedious and needlessly boring final boss fight.

Tony has been in pursue of Steam keys for Kingdom's of Amalur for a while now. If I remember correctly, he asked for 50.000 Steam keys for whoever is in charge of the KoA franchise and said that things were in motion.

Yesterday, he said this:

Hey guys,

Responding from dinner. I don't have any more insight into how we'll promote the Steam version of KOA once we get it so if you're interested in the game as promoted on Steam right now I'd grab it. I will be proposing that we run the bundle (with the DLCs) we've done in the past, but I have nothing confirmed yet.

Cheers,
Tony

The Bundle with the DLCs he's refeering is the 15 bucks Bundle. And I'd wager that it will have Steam keys in it. He's on vacation until PAX.

fucking amazing you say?

Elaborate. Tell me they fixed the combat so that to win all you have to do is mash counter attack over and over.

It's a better, but combat is still incredibly easy. The biggest improvement over the first game is in mission variety. In AC1 you had basically seen everything the game had to offer after the first assassination, while AC2 has a lot of different mission types.

The story is ridiculous, but fun, the game looks great and the soundtrack is one of the best this gen. If you managed to find a shred of enjoyment in AC1, give 2 a try.

Better and more varied gameplay, more variety in terms of mssions but less interesting Assassination missions, and while the combat is better, it's hardly still a strong suit of the game and you'll find yourself fighting more often than you'd wish.

It's a game that's extremely easy to just keep playing, but I hardly found it amazing as other have, and I really do think that a few of the more postiive aspects of the first game were lost in this one.

Completely agree. I tried to play a 2 and BroHo back2back and that was a no go.

I hated the first one, played the second and liked it, went back and finished the first one (which I prefer in some areas) and grew tired of Banjo Kazooie with Hooded Men.

For what it's worth, I laughed but didn't feel like making a post just to give you cred and by the time I actually wrote a post I had forgotten. It was gud tho.

I actually really want AC3 but the problem is that I need Windows 8 to run it, I guess that's one of the problems when you're still running XP.

Hahaha just my take so don't read this as what the case may be but it seams like due to the fact work on III had already started back when II wrapped that they took the cut ideas from II and forged this into Brotherhood.

Now seeing as III wasn't fitting in to the UbiSoft 2 year cycle of development they had a huge gap in their release sequel and seeing as Ass Creed was their darling they couldn't have a christmas without it. Hence why were got a game developed by 4 studios and loads of outsourcing and near 700 people work on it in some capacity.

The end of Brohood and the start of III with a few dialogue changes could flow right in to each other and there's only a few mentions of what happened with Desmond during the time of Revelations in III. I'm waiting for the proper reveal to be Ass Creed: Black & White Cow Print Flag due to it being milked half to death by now.

And God of War was getting stick for franchise fatigue. Right with that said and done I'm going to be a big hypocritical turn coat and go buy AC:III on Steam. Well at least I'm honest about it.

The great thing is, by the time I decide I am in the mood to be an extremely boring assassin, the games have dropped in price.

I probably won't get around to Revelations until 2014 or 2015.

Does it require DX10 or 11?

EDIT: It must

Minimum:
OS: Windows Vista® (SP2) / Windows® 7 (SP1) / Windows® 8
Graphics: 512 MB DirectX® 10—compliant with Shader Model 4.0 or higher (see supported list)*

Requires Vista or higher
Shader Model 4.0 GPU

They need to have DX10.

System requirements for alot of modern PC games is that you need Win Vista or Higher, oh well.

I beat the original Bioshock for the first time this morning. I could see how it got it's praise back in 2007 but going through it now it was good just not omgwtfbbq amazing.

Cool plot twists and powers but who had the bright idea of listening to audio tapes while you had to fight? It felt like my attention was split and it kind of distracted from the overall experience. If I were designing the game I would put them in areas that didn't have enemies and give you plenty of time to listen.

oh and pipe mania hacking became tiresome. I'm sure that complaint hasn't been said before.

I replayed it last week and now im replaying 2 and man, 2 aged much, MUCH better.

being able to have both your hands up alone gave it 10 more years of relevance

Don't mind me, I'm in a weird mood. I had just seen that shitty Pepsi Next commercial with a dancing baby and something just needed to get wrecked.

No I'm not a viral marketer for UbiSoft just a keeper of justice and fair pricing. Here's what you get with the AC:III Deluxe pack I just bought.

gMNClbK.png

That was @ £17.49.

Now here's what UbiSoft want you to pay for this if you're a bit on the fence about all the bells and whistles.

Base Game @ £14.99 - Normally £29.99
Season Pass @ £23.99 - Normally £23.99
Total @ £38.98 - Normally £53.98

Who is honestly that crazy to buy it on its own? What makes this worse is that UbiSoft, a French company is charging more in euros than they are respectively in £'s or $'s.

$20 with all the DLC is the most I'd pay for AC3. It's the same game with a worse story (past and present) and a protagonist that's more robotic than Altair.

Everyone of these are named differently, one with ®, one with 3 and others with III, one DLC, one DLC Key, another Edition Key and a Pass Key, one whatever it is.

I hope Ubisoft fills their taxation forms wrong and get sued for tax fraud and declare bankruptcy.

Also Assassin's Creed is a ™ at the first game and a ® at third.
