Halo |OT15| Beta-tested, GAF approved

Yeap. In hindsight I honestly would have preferred Firefight (the quality of Spartan Ops meant that after episode 10 was released, I couldn't bring myself to replay any of the missions because of how dull and boring they generally are. Firefight was something I could return to quite often because of the customisation). But the idea is really nice and I'm actually rather interested to see where 343i takes it in the future.

Honestly, why dies it have to be one or the other? Is Firefight really that difficult to have in a game?

I wonder if Halo 6 would still happen if Halo 5 and the Xbox 420 bombed hard.

The Halo name is going to sell, even if it's a poor product. As long as they don't go the GoW: judgement route of advertising. I had friends that didn't even know a new GoW was coming out.

That PS4 is looking mighty nice right about now....

I just spent 1200 on a PC, so I will probably just stick to that and see how the next gen consoles play out. Seeing as how most games are multiplatform, and there aren't really any good exclusives left (except on PC lol). I see little reason to get invested in next gen consoles. There is always that chance for a game or system to blow me away and make me want to get it, but I am content to just game on PC for the next 3-5 years and get next gen systems for cheaper well into the cycle.

If they drew from long-dead IPs or even ones dropped last gen, what exclusives would we feasibly have?

Halo
Perfect Dark maybe?
Gears of War I think?
Kameo (lol)
The XBL avatars should be given a series of games in the vein of Wii Sports or even Smash Bros, though. It'd be an interesting way to let some people create brawlers while still maintaining the whole "use master chief to fight Cole who's holding a grill!" dynamic of ridiculousness.

I do have to wonder if the 420 could draw in people if some XBLA/Indie Games got full-fledged versions next gen though. Minecraft 2, Paradiso (Limbo sequel), Nexuiz 1080, Murder Miners 2, and so on. I think Microsoft could definitely survive as a niche platform, with PS4 catering to most gamers with the 420 being a family-oriented media platform (Netflix, Minecraft, etc) as well as a competitive multiplayer platform (everything but Halo 5: The Search for Cortana).

It pisses me off so much that they're just letting Rare rot in a corner while making avatar items and Kinect Sports. I feel so sorry for them, who would want to do that for the rest of their career? Especially for a team as talented as Rare was.

Next gen Viva Pinata would be a system seller.

This.

I would eat an entire jar of horseradish in one sitting if they went the PASBR route instead of the Smash Bros. route for the obligatory Microsoft Cross-Over Clash game or whatever shit they do next. Just make them fight, don't establish relationships/rivalries in multiplayer. Can't wait to see the Flood get fucking curbstomped by some talking piñatas, Peggle characters and kinectimals.

Thinking about it except for Halo there were no other exclusives that pushed me towards the 360 this gen. Halo has lost its charm as a system seller for me though so depending on the quality of the PS4 exclusives I may just switch.

Did he really just get banned for the comments made in the Last of Us thread? Ridiculous.

I can't tell whether he was actually trolling or serious at that point, he got banned specifically for this:

What? Sorry I don't read every page of every Last of Us thread in NeoGAF. I saw the new footage. The last footage I saw was the E3 reveal. I didn't think it would be a zombie game. Stop getting emotinally attached to games, there's nothing nefarious about my statement.

Though I feel that first part of the last sentence was completely unnecessary and rude.

To be fair the "infected" in Last of Us have been known about since the game was announced. Not really a comment to be banned for tho. RIP JelyK.

Just drive-by posting some comments on the posts for the last couple pages.

Human Revolution is great, Elzar has wrong opinions. Music is forgettable though as it goes for ambiance over melodic tunes. Original had some great music, I wish HR had something that could compare to Hong Kong's track.

Mass Effect was good, but I'm still waiting for ME3 to hit Steam before playing it. My favourite thing about the first game was modding a sniper rifle to do increased damage and splash damage at the cost of heat, so I'd effectively have this hitscan rocket launcher. Shoot people in the feet and they went flying.

I don't have much hope in Last of Us because after the Uncharted games and their acclaim it's hard to take their output and the praise for that output seriously.

Don't have much to say for Halo 4 in regards to evolving the MP with their uhh... innovations. Not surprising that they want to continue beating the corpse evolving the franchise with innovative features; maybe they'll innovate with ADS in Halo 5.

This is surprising coming from Kyle... how?

I've been meaning to pick up Kameo some time since it should be in a 99¢ bin somewhere, I don't remember it being that bad when I originally played it.

But then reviewers will deduct points from them for having it, remember that review at launch that complained about the lack of ADS, the movement speed, & jump height.

It's not, but he still got banned for something he does on a daily basis. Kameo was on sale On Demand for like $3 at the end of last year, I enjoyed it.

Kameo is such a fun game and is just what we're missing from the industry. Those fun, N64-feeling games. I remember first seeing this on the N64 with all the different creatures you can play as and then it got delayed until the 360! lol

RIP KyleJ. RIP Halo.

Whens the next Halo tourney? I miss watching them on weekends.

Playing through Dishonored, its pretty good so far I guess.

Gaming side is serious business, prepare for detectiveGAF to search through your posts and find any inconsistency to use against you.

I always knew there would be some sort of infected in Last of Us, but I hoped that it would be more like the game that Kyle was describing, instead of just a good 3rd person zombie survival game with what is essentially bandit camps (aggressive human survivors). It looks like it will be both, but I'd rather not even fight the infected at all and instead you would only want to run or hide from them because they are too unpredictably wild and dangerous, and a waste of your supplies because they have none to pillage.

The Humans would be too smart for you to always run and hide from, so you would be forced to combat them upfront in scenarios like the E3 walkthrough showed. It would also behoove you to fight humans because they would have supplies and encampments to pillage. Typical that they have to keep shoving the action into AAA games though, if most of the game wasn't actually shootin' and fightin' zombie action and was properly paced, it could be an amazing experience.

Honestly, why dies it have to be one or the other? Is Firefight really that difficult to have in a game?

Because there are limited resources to apply to a variety of different features in the game. Someone probably came to the Project Manager with the pitch for Spartan Ops and getting into it they realized they wouldn't be able to do both and would have to scrap one or the other.

I'm not agreeing with the decision, but that's likely what went down.

Why is kyle banned?

Kyle talked shit saying he didn't know it was a zombie game and wanted it to be a human survival game. DetectiveGAF digs up a post of his from the initial reveal, which apparently displayed Zombies as a major focus.

Kyle probably didn't remember the reveal, and instead saw the awesome E3 walkthrough that really got people excited, then saw this latest walkthrough and responded to Zombies.

Bonus points for Thread sniping.

I didn't know it was a zombie game until I read kyle's post and now I have zero interest in that game
It happens to have zombies, that doesn't make it a zombie game. I don't see how kylej is bannable if he didn't realise though. Not that I have seen his posts.

Edit: So he legitimately forgot. Dumb mod decision.

Apparently he posted in the initial reveal thread, where the infected were discussed in. The trailer in that thread also had the infected in it.

this is completely unreasonable of me but if a game has even a single zombie then I automatically assume it's a pandering piece of garbage

The idea of Spops was great, but the execution left much to be desired. There's little reason - if any at all - to go through a mission again after you've already completed it. No customization, no skulls. The only way they make it difficult is by forcing you into situations where you are bound to die, like spawning you 10 feet away from 12 FRG Elites and 8 Hunters.

I'd honestly rather see Firefight back. I still play ODST's FF to this day (which had no customization) and continue to find new ways to approach enemies and make things interesting. I think it was a more cooperative and teamwork-engaging mode since you had to work together to save lives. The fact that I could play it offline was also a huge thing lost with Spops.

As someone who is definetly not the biggest fan of Halo 4s MP, I want honest opinions from those who dislike(d) it as well. Do the Magestic Maps play well? How are the new playlists and gametypes? Have they reintroduced any form of traditional weapon spawns on maps?

TBH most of the bullshit I post here is just bullshit. I love Halo and I do want it to succeed. It obviously sucks to see certain things happen to my favorite franchise that I dont approve of, but I think it is time for me to accept the fact that not many modern shooters are very good. The only other FPS that I do have fun playing is CoD, but that is mostly because my bro plays with me and we just fuck around and have a good time. Suppression in BF3 makes me want to chop my dick off at times and that game is more frustrating than fun these days. So when I do get back on the Halos (soon) I would like to play with fellow Gaffers again. That is when Halo is the best to me, just goofing off with you guys and having a good time. Same thing happened with Halo Reach, once I started playing with all of you my enjoyment of it went through the roof.

In conclusion, I am rooting for 343 I don't wish I'll towards them. I know they have the talent to do great things.
