GAF, I have 18€ in Amazon MP3 credit expiring at the end of the month, and I need your help to spend it! I'm mostly looking for digital-only releases / key singles / nice compilation tracks, i.e. stuff I can't procure on CD, from the usual suspects in electronic music. I wish I could be more precise, but I'm really quite open when it comes to genres. I'm definitely not into progressive house and trance, though, but I'd be interested in picking up key DFA releases from the past years for instance. Thanks for your help :)

Here's a sampling of this month's relevant purchases:

Brandt Brauer Frick - Miami
Factory Floor - Fall Back
Holly Herndon - Movement
Holy Ghost! - It Gets Dark
John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts
Julia Holter - Ekstasis
Laurie Spiegel - The Expanding Universe
Maxmillion Dunbar - House of Woo
Syclops - A Blink of an Eye
Philip Glass - Rework

I unfortunately have been unable to find his Cirez D set from Ultra. He played two sets, one on Friday as Pryda and one on Saturday as Cirez D. Since his Cirez D set wasn't broadcast live we haven't been able to find an upload of it. I'm still bitter about that.
grrr. Far prefer that shit. Don't get me wrong, love his work under his other names (like the "Eric Prydz" remix of A Bit Patchy) but his Cirez D shit really brought it. Couldn't believe after a few months of first hearing Knockout that it was Prydz.

there is some straight gold up in the daft punk thread.

I remember in some thread a Homework fan said that Discovery was an EDM album for people who didn't like EDM. I laughed, because all I could think was that Homework was an EDM album for people who didn't like dancing.

Haha that might be me! (the Homework fan)

And I am definitely behind the statement still, though I think I phrased it differently. (saying that Discovery was an album for the masses/popfans.)

I'll laugh my socks off if the new DP album has dubstep influences.
(and actually still hope a bit that DP surprises everybody by releasing an album more like Homework, then I'll be hypocrite and buy it instantly)

You didn't catch Thomas at Even Further in 96?! The only time I remember seeing them perform together as Daft Punk was I think in 00 at Sebastian Legers birthday party at some rave in Chicago. edit - I think it was actually Paul Johnsons birthday and Leger happened to be there with the entire crew. I could be mixing all that up though, very hazy. I do remember thinking how Kiko was better than the entire crew combined.

Always wanted to see them live. Rollin & Scratchin is what it's all about to me in music ;

Straight in your face, no fucking about, take it or leave it, no refund beats and tunes an lyrics.

Most of the tracks on Discovery have this weird shuffle backbeat. You dance to it like you dance to Build Me Up Buttercup i.e. drunkenly at a family disco.

The reason I love Discovery is because of how it was described by either (or both of) the guys. Something about how it was supposed to epitomise the playfulness and innocence of listening to music in youth. Note: Not *recreate* or capture the music from your youth, but to take how music made you feel back then and... fuck, just found the paragraph on Wikipedia from Bangalter:

This album has a lot to do with our childhood and the memories of the state we were in at that stage of our lives. It's about our personal relationship to that time. It's less of a tribute to the music from 1975 to 1985 as an era, and more about focusing on the time when we were zero to ten years old. When you're a child you don't judge or analyze music. You just like it because you like it. You're not concerned with whether it's cool or not. Sometimes you might relate to just one thing in a song, such as the guitar sound. This album takes a playful, fun, and colorful look at music. It's about the idea of looking at something with an open mind and not asking too many questions. It's about the true, simple, and honest relationship you have with music when you're open to your own feelings.
That's why I fucking love it.

Oh man, I'd *kill* to see Paul Johnson live. I've seen plenty of footage of him on YT and he just slays it 100% of the time.

That Bangalter quote made me think of Boards Of Canada. They have also said that their music is supposed to make the listener feel nostalgic. I've always thought that these kind of big themes and feelings are such a hard thing to do in music, forexample the feel of loneliness and kind of hopeful sadness is very present in Burials music.
