This TeamCG - TeamReal thread was one of the best threads since I'm on GAF.

Sorry, I haven't been following much and there A LOT to sift through. Is the confirmation that it's real just the fact that it wasn't mentioned at the conference?

This is what I'm going to say every time I end up being wrong in the future.

"Oh, I was just having fun! Stop being so serious."
Well, some were treating it that way even before it became clear.

Meanwhile some people seem to treat it as if it were a religion, except instead of believing in someone who may not be real it's believing that someone who is real isn't real.

This is not a mask or a puppet. this is not an animated face.

Look at this face. It's a full interview, with a couple of close ups and many facial expressions. There's no way to animate something like that without a trip to uncanny valley even if you had trillions of dollars in budget.

The worst part is that Pachter will add this to Gametrailer's "NeoGAF Documentary", and we'll end up becoming the laughing stock of the gaming community.

Those 839 individuals have shamed us all :(

If it wasn't some kind of tech demo the whole thing was just even more pointless and stupid.
That's why I don't think that TR should give TCG such a hard time. Really this whole viral campaign was so pointless that it's really easy to see why some would assume that something extra special like photo-real Cg tech had to be involved.

I mean who really needs help to get hyped for MGS5?

The team CG thing was always just a level. However there actually were a few people who came to the thread late and actually bought into it. LOL

I don't even remember voting in this thing how the fuck did my name get in the OP

I'm half expecting to find an origami unicorn in my bedroom now oh god please help

Can't win them all, right? #TeamCG

I will say this about TeamCG, you turned what was a super crappy pointless interview on GTTV on a night that we really wanted to see something new, and made it something incredible. You gave us something to talk about when GTTV didnt. You made that two week wait extremely fun even though you are clearly insane. So thank you for the crazy.

Lol @ TeamCG.

Seriously, why would they spend so much time+effort on some "CG" face as a marketing tool and a way to amaze fans? Like I said, in-game, characters would not have that amount of detail or the realistic facial movements that a supposed "CG Joakim face" would have, so whats the fricking point?

You know what, I saw that Activision, the true animated face GDC tech demo, watched it and moved on. No other fucks were given as in-game we wont get that fidelity. Anyways, great wall of shame for #TeamCG. Lulz

Except that several TeamReal members have already pointed out time and again in that other thread that:

- It's not pointless: the whole thing was just a tongue-in-cheek 2-minute mock interview of the "CEO" about TPP and how everything will be revealed come GDC;

- It's a staged interview to show the reveal that "Ooops it's Fox Engine so TPP is connected to GZ somehow! *surprise face*". It's bad acting, yes, but acting nonetheless, to show that "reveal". Nothing more, nothing less.

The only reason why it blew up was because some /v/ members posited the theory that Joakim might be full CG (no matter how stupid that sounds given the fact that today's best CG and capture-motion technology hasn't reached that high of fidelity yet), and TeamCG here ran away with it full retard.

We pointed it out with facts, they just didn't listen.

TeamCG is a disgrace that proves many here couldn't even make it on /v/.

It does seem to me it was just a goofy thought thrown out there that some went crazy and ran with. Probably because of how insubstantial and pointless that interview seemed beyond the Fox engine teasing, trying to find greater purpose beyond a lame GDC teasing. I mentioned before it'd be nice if they had thrown in all sorts of empty PR speak to make it more convincing, and I half expect if they DID do that the CG thing wouldn't have caught on (or instead everyone'd overanalyze what was being said.)

Well I know for a fact that Stump isn't stupid, yet he apparently voted for CG. So I think going the stupid route is....a flawed argument to put it nicely.
I do believe it that some people did it just for fun, but I think those that were REALLY REALLY adament and got carried away kinda dragged the whole thing down. And the guy did look odd in the intereview, even though there's more explainations for that than "it's CG!" Hell, that kind of bandaging WOULD draw our attention to a smaller part of the face and start noticing more detail there that we'd normally overlook.

Damn, I guess I was wrong...well one thing we can all agree on, that interview is...off. And "Joakim" or whatever his real name is is one strange looking dude, with strange mannerisms to boot. Strange enough that many of us decided he couldn't be human.

I wonder what he would think about all this.

I see my name on my list and have a smile. I just wanted to believe and unfortunately it didn't turned out out as I hoped, but it was fun when it lasted!

I'd just like to say that by my vote I just wanted to have some fun, and I'm sure it's the same for a lot of TeamCG. You guys don't need to talk us down like we were madmen. "NeoGAF, dude" and all this, but some of the people here (on both sides) are taking this whole thing waaaay too seriously.

TeamCG people: "We are extraordinary people", says the lady!

Those damn head motions were so jerky, and his eyes were always more closed than open. I didn't really buy into looking at compression artifacts from a gif of a youtube video for evidence for CG though. It just seemed super odd enough that it was either CG or I guess I should've gone the route of the guy being directed to act like goddamn a 2005 videogame cutscene character.

I never directly posted my support for Team Real, but I did vote for the team on the poll. Is that adequate enough for me to be forever immortalised on the wall of Dream crushers? (#GlorySnatcher!)

Also, might I add, I believe this thread should be a sticky, so when I indulge myself in that, fine, bitter drink, I will forever remember, that my drink will never be as bitter as the emotions of one team on the 27/3/13.

"Here's to you, TeamCG"
Cheers!

I voted for #TeamCG for fun but always knew it was going to end up being real.

Ah well...it was a pretty fun ride while it lasted I suppose. Thanks for the laughs.

#TeamReal here to revel in crushed dreams

Oh, you think CG is your ally. But you merely adopted CG; I was born in reality, pimples and pixels, moulded by sprites. I didn't see polygons until I was already a man, by then they were nothing to me but jaggy.

Hype is where I learned the truth about despair, as will you. There's a reason why this reality is the worst hell on earth... Hype. Every man who has played videogames over the decades has succumbed to the hype and imagined photo-realistic CG. So easy... So simple... And like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst for hype, many have died when reality met their expectations. I learned in reality that there can be no true despair without hype. So, as the 720P, sub-HD PS3 and 360 versions of the Phantom Pain remain behind closed doors, Konami will feed gamers hype to poison their souls. They will let them believe that the visuals shown in the GDC trailer are possible on current gen consoles, even though it was being played on a PC. The fans will be clamoring over each other to "stay in this gen." You can watch them torture an entire install base of gamers and when you have truly understood the depth of hype not matching realistic expectations, Kojima Productions will announce MGS5 for the PS4 and Durango at E3 with an entry price of $400-$500. When it is done and the Digital Foundry comparisons show the muddy and bland textures, screen tearing and 30fps gameplay of the current gen versions of MGS5 compared to the next-gen versions, then you have my permission to be disappointed and join #TeamReal.

Give this man a tag. God damn.

I still don't get it. Is the guy real or not? Did he showed up on the show? Did they said he is NOT CG?

No, they didn't say he's NOT CG. Neither did they confirm that I'm not an AI. Nor did they confirm that we are not living in the Matrix.

Of course they're not going to confirm that a real person is real. For that to happen, they'd have to have expected people to think he wasn't.

What information is this thread reacting to is what I think he meant by that question. Nobody seems to want to link it for whatever reason though.

Admittedly with the "real" Joakim Mogren unmasked they need to go unmask the actor too: I'm really curious who that was supposed to be, if he's seriously involved with MGSV, or was just some guy brought in?
