I think its off to an interesting and perhaps alright start. A few things ought to have been explained or at least hinted at, for example the walls and how they got there as it seems like a key feature of the series. Though the details provided during the break in the episode was slightly fulfilling. Otherwise solid and interesting concept that makes it worth following. I still have tons of dislike for the Titan designs and having them smile makes me dislike them even more, they just come across as being really creepy and scary.

Eren is phenomenal protagonist. So many good expressions, if he could only smile more in the future, but that resolve and wanting to go against everyone else and live life outside of the cage. I hope he is successful in his endeavours and Armin too. Mikasa came across as really annoying and kind of bland in personality. Need more personalities introduced fast.

The OP song was alright visuals were kind of dull and lacking.

Plot
Did get way sad as it went on, I was actually hoping the whole thing was a dream sequence as it seemed so odd for Armin to be saying all the stuff then little details happening like the clouds shifting the wind, then the lightning strike, and well how the walls just fell based on their discussion. :(

QUICK FIRST EPISODE IMPRESSIONS LIST GO

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation - 2.5/5
The SMT fanboy in me boosted my enjoyment of this but overall it was kinda average despite a few cool scenes. At least it looks better than the Persona 4 anime but that's a really low bar.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince - 3.5/5
Better than I expected. Some nice mecha action and surprisingly good mech designs. Hirai faces are still bad but I don't completely hate the main cast yet. The comedy isn't always there but when it works, it's genuinely amusing.

Photo Kano - 1/5
Might secretly continue watching to satisfy my voyeuristic fetishes. creepercam.gif

Aku no Hana 2/5
Ditch the rotoscopping and you've got a good show with some impressive direction. If the terribly featureless character designs and bad acting continues to be distracting I might have to bail on this show. :(

Death Billiards 4.5/5
Excellent storytelling though a bit preachy by the end. LWA is still the clear superior anime from the four Young Animators Project but this is very much enjoyable as well.

Hataraku Maou-sama! - 3/5
Not as funny as I was hoping but enjoyable nonetheless. I might prefer Saint Onii-san's take on the fish out of water in modern day Japan idea but I'll continue watching this.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. - 2/5
Might give another episode due to the hints that this might try to subvert all the annoying romcom tropes but I'm not counting on it. Pretty boring overall.

Date A Live - 1/5
Among the dumbest things I've witnessed all week.

Shingeki no Kyojin 4/5
Very happy with the adaption. Will write more later.

LOL

Best comedy this season.

The show looks wonderful; everyone talks about the thick lines and it's well justified! It's not some uniform outline that shades everyone, the lines waver with the curve of each face and pose and provide a nice definition to the designs. The production itself is quite nice--some really lovely art, bg or otherwise--and there's a good number of stills, but you know what? Animating crowds is hard.

Araki's talent for presenting a spectacle--no matter how tasteless--paid off near the end, at least. But his knack for transforming moments of drama or tragedy into comedy is going to bite this show in the ass. Terrible fit for this series, and what happens when the budget runs out, the aerial acrobatics get toned down, and you're left with the stills that were so ubiquitous even in this opening episode?

Not expecting much going forward. Will watch for action and humor.

I liked how all the soldiers and the drones managed to trap Hyoubu and Andy, just to stop shooting and stare so they could have their bromance moment. It was cute.

aka It Gets Worse, the show.

God this show is pretty. Hope the animation doesn't decrease in quality over time.

Naruto Shippuden - Road To Ninja

This is probably the 1st Naruto movie I've honestly enjoyed to watch since the very first one. The story about how both Naruto and Sakura are pulled to an alternate world of theirs was a really interesting concept when I first heard about it. And while there were some parts I feel the movie could have been improved on, it was a very enjoyable 2 hours well spent.

Anyone whose followed the Manga/Anime would know that Naruto has never actually experienced what it is to have a family. That's why practically every scene he had when interacting with RTN Kushina and Minato definitely pulled a few heartstrings. Those scenes were definitely the highlight of the movie, especially the one when he comes home to see them greeting him for dinner. Action, while admittingly not a lot of it, was fine. The battle between the Nine-Tails was really nice even if it was mostly a volley battle between each others Tailed Beast Bomb. Seeing the characters act differently like Hinata being mean, Sasuke being a playboy, and Kakashi having Guy's attitude and charisma was definitely enjoyable. In particular, the scene later with the Akatsuki showing up and coming to Naruto's aid definitely let out a fanboy yell from me.

That said at the same time I feel very disappointed that they didn't do enough with the RTN characters. While the movie did focus on Naruto and Sakura view on what it means to have a family, I feel like because of that the others characters suffered for it. The Konoha 11 in all had around 5 minutes of screen time near the beggining of the movie before they stopped showing up. This was really disappointing since it feels like such a wasted opportunity to see more of them interacting with Naruto and Sakura. Other characters that weren't Kushina and Minato didn't fair that much better either. Sai himself had maybe 20 seconds of screen time and while the Akatsuki showing up was thrilling, the fact that only Itachi and Deidara had a speaking role at all was a let down. The end fight as well left something to be desired, which would have been easily remedied if the others like Hinata, Sasuke, and Kakashi had actually showed up to fight with them.

Despite all that I didn't once feel bored watching the movie. Granted the past few Naruto movies have been really underwhelming, so I might have been just starved for a good Naruto movie for once. But I did have some hope that this movie would have been able to satisfy me and for the most part, it succeeded. I do really hope that we get to see all the RTN characters again in some form, though I know not to have my expectations high.

8/10 would watch again.

Aku no Hana 01

Holy fucking shit, everybody should be watching this. The backgrounds are gorgeous, the direction is absolutely amazing across the board, the story was really interesting and the actual art and is honestly really cool. It adds a ton of atmosphere to the show. If this is the future of anime then sign me up. The rotoscoping really adds something to this show that traditional animation can't do.

The only gripe I have is that its hard to tell who is speaking at times. This is only relevant during the group shots with a lot of people but I can imagine this being a common occurence in the series since most of it (so far) takes place within school. Not animating mouths (or faces) for that matter means you really have to nail it home with either visual or audio cues and at times its hard to keep up with. I'd imagine its less of a problem as time goes on when I can associate a voice with a character.

But seriously this was great. Really great.
We may not agree on most things but today you and I are NAKAMA.

The Severing Crime Edge 1

Unfortunately the most interesting thing about the episode is the title. Otherwise, it took me awhile to get through as I just kept falling asleep. Will stick around for episode 2 as
some game is about to begin? and psychotic killers?

That line. Pretty interesting episode for the sake of the Cyclops System.
Changes my whole view on some characters in the Natural's forces. To think they'd sacrifice everybody their using microwaves (and so brutal) too was just unbelievable. This gundam has been a bit on the intense side in terms of things shown, people bursting in blood, then reminded me of the stuff on Junius Seven.

Last few minutes of freedom gundam being all epic and awesome wielding tons of guns and laser was really so far one of the highlights of the whole anime. Wanted to rewatch it again and again.
Athrun needs similar moments but it feels like they keep setting him up for some tragic end or something as all these bad events upon bad events land on him, and now Lacus thing.

Well see, there you go DTL. I agree with your opinion about Gundam SEED at least.

The DVDs for A Certain Scientific Railgun finally arrived in the mail today. The artbox is similar to the first Japanese artbox release. I wonder if the eventual Blu-ray release will have an artbox similar to Panty and Stocking's separate DVD and Blu-ray releases both did. Probably won't have a chance to watch until late next week since I just completed The Irresponsible Captain Tylor (TV) and and am now starting the OVAs to the series.

When I get around to watching Railgun, this will probably be the first time I refuse to watch an English dub because the voices just do not match the characters from the Japanese dub.

Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 01

It might be because I've tempered my expectations preparing for the worst with this adaption but I really enjoyed this episode. From the character designs, to the overwhelmingly creepy titans, to the background designs I really liked how the art is translated here from the manga. I honestly disliked the bold outlines used in the character designs in Sakamichi no Apollon but I find that they work really well here for some reason. It all feels very defined which is an interesting contrast to the art in the manga.

The music (which is excellent) and voice acting certainly elevated a lot of the action scenes to a much higher point than the manga did, imo. Probably my main... issue? I guess would be some of the dramatic scenes. Certain scenes (specifically the
WE HAVEN'T LEARNED A THING ABOUT THEM
scene) reminded me of the over-exaggerated dialogue from the JoJo anime. Didn't exactly hate those scenes but they were still comical in a way. I'm hoping they're able to keep up the quality as the show continues because the intro sequence really got me excited to see more Three Dimensional Manuever Gears in action.

No I did not and now I am glad I didn't. That sounds ridiculous. What was the point of all the in-show shipping of a relationship that NEVER happened?

There never was any. Setsuna and Marina were never anything more than friends, you're just trained to think of the child soldier lead and the peace princess as a romantic pair because the first Gundam you ever watched was Wing.

I should know, the same thing happened to me.

We'll see how the next episode is. One thing I think the anime screwed up is the depressing atmosphere. That tone of hopelessness and despair hasn't really been translated that well onscreen.

Very good. I know nothing of the manga, but this was some great television all around. High production values and a great sense of foreboding all around. The scene with the
Recon Corps leader screaming about the futility of their work
is the only low point I can see regarding the script. It was very hammy, comical even. Reading the impressions here I fear this is gonna be an issue going forward, but I remain optimistic.

This is gonna sound super petty, but I do have to complain about the CGI backgrounds in the action scenes. I understand why they are done that way since it would be fucking expensive to draw all of that by hand while keeping the vertigo, but I cannot not notice them every time there are acrobatics at play. They ended up distracting me from the actual character animation, which was indeed pretty superb. Hopefully I'll get used to the effect soon.

If this episode didn't seem depressing or hopeless to you then I fear reading the manga is gonna make me a sobbing pussy.

Kinda irritated me after the fact when I read the manga after watching that. Seemed like a lot of tension was lost and changes were generally bad. Wish they hadn't tried to shove the whole thing in there too.

I think I need some Bodacious Space Pirates to relax after that. Jesus christ.

Good thing I didn't have lunch beforehand.

But everyone in the show acted like Setsuna and Marina were in love. She spent all her time gazing upward thinking about him and he kept muttering her name every time he was about to explode.

GaoGaiGar Final 1

Not bad, not bad. New characters introduced are Rene Shishio (And this episode gave the oddest lingering view of her butt as she was being strangled by the villain.), Gimlet an evil android, and Anryu and Kouryu, who are the first FEMBOT AUTOBOTS. Minus that maid bot on the base. And maybe the Pliers?

Anyway, no idea why Mamoru and Kaidou are fighting, but unlike a certain other anime I just finished, I have confidence it will be explained to me.

Also, Josef is a BOSS. Had like, EIGHT puppies and doesn't afraid of anything.
