HarmoKnight |OT| Hunt to your own beat!

I didn't worry about getting Golds in the final world. I just focused on beating the game.

After doing that, I went back and played everything Fast. When I approached a level I didn't yet get a Gold in, it became much easier since I was much more experienced in the game. Plus, I had much more of a desire/reason to get the Gold since it's required to play it in Fast.

Looking back, I'm glad I did it that way since those stages have extremely high requirements for getting Gold, so it may have driven me crazy without the extra experience. lol

Thanks for the advice. I did go back and so far I've cleared the worlds 1-4 on fast speed with great scores. It's kinda funny, I'm having an easier time and getting higher scores replaying these levels on fast speed, than I originally did playing on normal speed. Don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep up though... it's gonna get real tough around worlds 6 and 7.

Is it just me or is the timing on Classikaos Strikes fucked up? I'm hitting the buttons exactly when I'm supposed to and it's saying I got it wrong even though I'm perfectly on beat.

I think it's just you. I don't recall having any trouble with that level on Normal, and I know for sure that I pulled it off perfect first or second try on Fast. When it comes to boss levels, I found that most of my messups were coming from paying too much attention to the visuals timing-wise rather than just relying on the beat, so maybe you're experiencing something similar?

I just had to do it later than I felt it was supposed to go.. Weird.. Anyways, I have gold on all levels and haven't unlocked the secret world, how do I find out which levels have the birds in them?

Edit: never mind, found them.

Does the game have any kind of instakill obstacles? I'd swear the last hit of the bee boss in the demo causes at least double or triple damage, if not instant death. I'm very interested in the game, but that kind of bs would ruin the game for me.

Yes.

In boss levels, the last hit is always an instakill if you miss.

In other levels, there are some jumps you must hit, or else you fall to your death.

Urgh. That's completely unfair. At least I hope that the bosses aren't too long or difficult, or I think I'll hate this game very much.

Boy, the drums are killng me, I can't seem to get the rhythm down at all. Whenever I try to hit B on the beat, I almost always miss. But when I just bash B like mad, it often goes right.

I'm really enjoying the game. It does test your patience when you want to start over to get better scores. But overall it's great.

I love the production values and art style. Kind of wish this was the new engine for Pokemon with clean graphics and colorful designs.

Loving this so far. The music is really good... although I wish it was as good as the Pokemon music. Those bonus stages are excellent.

I would pay lots and lots of

for DLC with more Pokemon stages. Why won't they let me give them my money? :(

I heard that 2 of the bonus songs are not Pokemon songs, does anyone know if this is true?

I'd love to play to some Mendel Palace, Drill Dozer or Pulseman music in this.

Likewise. Really finding them difficult and annoying. Stuck on Glacier Gallop because of it as you have to land them to finish the level.

EDIT: Saying that, I did just complete it after my 5th try.

There! Completed the fast versions of all non-boss, non-final-trial stages. Clock Tower Trial on fast made me jump into pits more times than I can count.

I also agree that starting with the hardest levels and then going back from there is a good strategy.

Argh, last boss is kicking my ass. Every time I lose, I go back to the first stage to get more hearts. Also sad that world 4 and 6 were so short...they had some of my favorite levels.

Edit: Ah! Finally beat it.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Why are people saying the game is easy? Just because the scoring is lenient doesn't make it easy!

The final Boss is kicking my ass. That last segment, I just can't seem to figure it out. Sometimes I am sure I have the timing right but no dice.

I just can't do it. Fucken A man. I can't even do the left right jump anymore. I always get hit. The last barrage I got screwed for the final hit.

Nope! Forget it! I can do every other stage on fast, but Gargan's final battle and the final trial are just too much. The hits just come in so compressed it's crazy, especially the third parts. I am not that kind of rhythm gamer. Had enough fun with the rest of the game.

Gargan's final battle wasn't that difficult for me. Try practicing tapping the buttons on your 3DS. Start the level and get the rhythm down, then press start to pause the game. Then you can tap the Y and B buttons as much as you like. Get a feel for the spacing between the rapid hit-hit-hit-hit parts, and you should be fine.

The final trial though, fuck that.

I can't do anything but achieve perfection otherwise I just end up getting incredibly frustrated. I'm suffering so much.

I really wish there were online leaderboards so that I'd have more reason to come back to this game, now that I've gotten golds on every level in both normal and fast mode :(

gah why is the music so quiet on the second level. It's making it really hard for me to follow the rhythm. >.<

Got all the gold flowers (on normal and fast) so I've been playing some random levels to get my scores up. The game is really way more entertaining when you start working on your runs. I still prefer Runner 2 though, I can't put my finger on it... I think it's because Runner 2 is more reflexes and HarmoKnight is more memory.

I'd love some DLC that's in line with the post-game difficulty spike.

yep... my perfectionism is forcing me to replay levels constantly far beyond the gold flower requirements

knew this would happen

this game is soo addictiiiiiive

I'm about halfway through the calypso world (which has had some AWESOME tracks), and already clocked 5 hours. That's without attempting fast speed, just trying to get a "decent" score at regular speed. I definitely haven't gotten any "perfect" runs yet, so I'll most certainly be replaying these stages later. Ahh, so good.

I still need to finish Luigi's Mansion and start Guacamelee, but I can't tear myself from HarmoKnight. TOO MANY GAMES!

So, I'm finally giving this game a go after drooling over the demo. I'm currently in the fifth world and, well, I'm not sure what I think of the overall game so far :| On the one hand, I love the art style and I love most of the music, but the walls of text are a bit much and some of the levels just don't work for me (mainly because it's hard to hear an actual beat in the background). I'm going to stick with it, though, and hopefully everything will click for me by the time it's over.

So far the only stage I've had that problem in was A Dangerous Journey (W1). Right now I'm at City Express (W4). Hope it doesn't resurface, it's really annoying. :(

I dug most of the demo too, but for some reason, the boss was really irritating. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention to the beat and too much attention to what I see on-screen as far as where I am and when to hit the directions. I eventually got past it, but it took me four or five tries; the failures never felt like my fault, more like the game actively blocking button presses when it wasn't when it wanted me to press them.

Are you guys playing with headphones? The 3DS speakers kind of suck. With a nice pair of headphones, the sound is crisp and easy to catch the beat.

this is definitely the problem

it should be extremely easy if you just focus on the rhythm.

I am just using the speakers. I know I should plug in some headphones, but so lazy. :\

Do you guys know if the cumulative note tally shown is the sum of notes collected in normal and fast speeds, or just the normal speed notes?

I was thinking of starting a high scores chart for cumulative note total. That should give us some nice replay value. :D

Normal and fast all together. I noticed this as I was playing through the levels again on fast.

I'm not, admittedly. I'll give that a try. I have a feeling it won't mean much for me on a few stages, though. Oh, well, at least I can say I've beaten the game, and now I can just focus on the few stages that I really loved the first time around.

Oh man, that's intimidating. :p

I actually do have a gripe with this game now. The mine-cart levels really aren't too great. I appreciate them trying to mix things up, but they're designed more around reflexes and memorization than actual rhythmic timing. It's not that fun.

I forgave the first instance since I thought it might just be a one-time thing and it was a little different, but if they're going to use the mine cart as a recurring theme, I'm not into it.

edit: oh by the way, the City world is sooo gooood
