Who is this so-called "original producer" now at Disney Interactive?
Because the original game was developed by the god-tier Sega Japan CS Megadrive team (Yuji Naka etc) that went on to put out Megadrive Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, Super Shinobi, not to mention the original Sonic.
Can we have a name please? Dig deeper people.
Otherwise the PR sounds like a cynical half-lie to trick the original fan base with zero pedigree from the original, rather than the more likely story: some licensing guy figured out they could rehash the old property with cheap CG (and then close the studio).
Edit:
"Re-imagined with the Disney magic of the original" - the greatness of the original had jack shit to do with "Disney magic" other than the charming intro and end boss, about 1% of the game. It stacked with awesome platforming gameplay, music and entirely original imagination from a legendary Sega Japan team.
Are they involved?
"Having a blast with the original producer who couldn't realise her (?) original vision to to technical limitations" - horseshit. CoI is considered a landmark platforming classic regardless of technology. Did a single person at the time say "gee, if only the Megadrive had more power so they could have changed this game into pseudo-3d"? Hardly.
Look past the PR spin. Graphics like this can be made for bottom dollar the days and there is no indication this "reimagination" has anything to do with that made the original a timeless video game classic, other than by cynical marketing association.
What the hell are you talking about?
There was no "god-tier Sega Japan CS Megadrive team" as such; there were a bunch of separate divisions that were independently responsible for different games/franchises, most of which have since been dissolved or amalgamated with other divisions.
Yuji Naka had nothing to do with any of the Disney games (or Revenge of Shinobi, for that matter) and the amount of staff crossover between the games you mentioned is quite minimal and generally inconsequential. (The one big link is Takashi Yuda, who was an artist and later art director on the Disney games who went on to work on Sonic 3&K, designing Knuckles. He's still with Sega, as far as I know.)
The director/designer on the Illusion games and Quackshot was a staffer credited only as "Emirin"--if you were going to attribute these games to any one person (something you really shouldn't do, but whatever) it'd be Emirin. We can only assume that Emirin is the same staffer who now works at Disney Interactive... only time will tell.
They said they're gonna be publishing interviews with members of the original development team, many of whim are still with Sega, so their involvement will be made clear eventually, one way or another.
