Have a feeling Sony are going to drop bombs this E3

Did you see the guy who presented the game at the meeting? They are prolly treating the game as some sort of storytelling masterpiece :lol.

I thought he was trying to be funny?

Exactly. No one knows how it's going to go down at this point. If the nextbXbox is a massive success in NA, completely dominates etc, then they've cut themselves off from all those sales. And like I said earlier, 1m can easily be built upon.

It is likely the game will be exclusive, I just hope they know what they're doing.

but why would it matter though, according to you the series is not a big seller since nobody cares about it.

That gif gets me every time. He always looks so scared for some reason.

can you post a summary for us all?

Sure, but I'm not sure how much is new, guesswork by GI, or extra tidbits they've picked up:

-7 years after events of infamous 2

-uses real-world events to shape a paranoid, conspiratorial view of the U.S.

-government has cracked down due to Cole's actions throughout the first two games

-main group is the Derpartment of Unified Protection (DUP); DUP trying to root out bio-terrorists

-lots of surveillance equipemtn

-Set in a Seattle that is very remeniscent of City 17 (Half-Life 2)

-main character is 24 year old Delsin Rowe; Delsin is disaffected, underachieving

-Delsin gains powers by running into a burning bus to save people

-main power is smoke; is immediately tagged as bio-terrorist to prevent another Cole situation

-Delsin isn't takin this shit no mo'; fights back against DUP

No need to think so much about it. Heres the deal:

Sony is helping in the development=exclusive
Sony is not helping in the development=multiplatform

Well shit. The police need to be informed to prevent this catastrophe. Sony has really gone off the deep end, you can't just blow up the biggest gaming convention, I wont stand for it.

Plus, for some reason I really like the character design of Delsin, except for that wrist chain. (not sure what they are going for there; reminds me of Kratos) He looks kind of just like your average, everyday 20 year old punky kind of kid. He doesn't look like a pretty-boy like Nathan Drake; he even has some fat on him. Just looks like a 20 year old punker dude.

Those are huge assumptions that likely won't come to pass. 1m can just as easily be eroded as it can be built upon. It's a new gen, anything can happen.

I wonder how that device will figure into all of this? They seemed pretty keen on keeping it away from the announcement, but they're still showing it off and giving a general idea as to what it can do. I wonder how much of a focus it has at their E3 conference.

I really think they will just be encouraging developers to do Kinect games as multiplat and leave bigger focus on it totally out for now. I think they got burned by their Wonderbook project a little.

as it should be. I always love that type of dedication and that kind of strive. hit or miss the most I would want is for them to try. And you gotta admit his presentation was quite memorable, has people still talking about the game.

I feel like we have this conversation before every E3 "Sony will have a hug show, they have _____ developers that have to be close to announcing _____ new projects!"

Then the announcements get sprinkled over the next six months and E3 ends up being fairly tame. Though because of PS4, this E3 should be fairly exciting relative to past E3s.

Could be a cool way to get around the UI and stuff, at the very least.

I dunno. I don't have any experience with Kinect but I think I'd prolly just use the controller for everything after the first 10 minutes of testing the camera control for UI.

I mean the voice stuff alone could be useful. Does it have voice stuff actually?...I mean it could be useful in theory at least.

where is Thuway?? The guy who always leaks out the bombs :)

I C what u did there.

But c'mon. If memory serves Thuway hasn't really been in the software leak business and the 8gb was pretty secret stuff even in the inner circles.

Can't wait to see the betrayaltons you claim to know at E3 ;).

I'd tend to agree, but it's E3 and Sony has definitely done a lot of things right so far. Who knows though, maybe they blow it. Then again, maybe they hit it out of the park.

I don't think they will drop bombs. As much as I want them to, this is Sony we are talking about. I hope they prove me wrong.

I hope they show off some Second Son gameplay. I want to see how that game is going to work and look in action.

I'm vehemently against third party exclusives in the industry at this point. It benefits no one. Well, it benefits the incompetent and the devs that like to leave money on the table. It truly is a stupid practice.

It kind of depends really, sometimes a more focused approach can find more appeal than targeting every platform known to man. You get more help from the first party as well going this route, which means your game may resonate better with people who own that platform. Beyond that there's less strain on the dev team when only targeting one platform. It's a useful tactic for certain game types, or niche titles, particularly if you get to piggyback on first party marketing.

What I think we'll see:

PS4 worldwide launch announced (within the same month) November 2013
Price announced $499 (Maybe gimped model at $399)

1st Party Launch line up -

DriveClub
InFamous: Second Son
Knack
Killzone: Shadow Fall

Other game announcements -

The Last Guardian re-reveal
Final Fantasy XV (Versus) Exclusive
Ready at Dawn new IP (Action / adventure)
GT6 PS4 / PS3 cross gen

It is announced that all the above games will be released in 2014 as part of PS4s first year on the market.

Closes with teaser for SSM next game (not for release in 2014)

*also there will be small amount of time given to trailers for PS3 games like Puppeteer / Beyond: Two Souls and Vita games like FFX HD. As well as a handful of new Vita titles.

You have to remember that this E3 doesn't just show off whats coming this next year. Its the generational change E3, so console makers show their long term cards to drag people into their camp early.

Oh my word this is going to be good.

After the last few awful E3s we are due a good one

True. The bad side is that we will be introduced to another big wave of vaporware and Versus.

Pretty much what I expect too. Except that I expect they to announce the PS4 and not the PS3 :)P), and I dont see all those games being launch titles at all. But I think they will be there somehow.

Oops yeah I've edited.

Just to clarify. You don't think the 4 games listed will be launch? Or were you referring to the 'other announcements' list below, those are games for 2014.

The only one out of the 4 I'd hazard may not be ready for launch is InFamous, but the developers have said they want to make it for launch (I think) so it seems like a possibility.

Don't forget the console reveal. We finally get to see what the box looks like, and they will probably spend some time talking about some unannounced features for the PS4, which I presume will be leaked a few days prior to the event.

Thanks for the detailed post. That's one complicated development history and I too agree that renaming the game to XV makes sense from a business perspective.

Still, at the end of the day, TLG and XV are two pieces of PS3-exclusive vaporware that are simply being re-branded to fit Sony's PS4 strategy. I'm very excited for both and am sure they'll be great games but they're far from megatons, IMO.

A PS4 exclusive FFVIIR or Agni's Philosophy though? That would be a Tsar Bomba right there.

I actually expect Second Son, Knack, Killzone and/or DriveClub to not have much on stage time. Instead they are perfect games to show before E3 with some good gameplay. Stage is for megatons and new stuff.

Oh yes definitely. We'll see the console itself and more detail on it's online ect. Although I'm thinking they may show the box at the rumoured event in May along with new gameplay from some of the already announced titles. If not obviously it'll all be on stage at the E3 event.
