Share button + GT6 or recording random awesome things in games will be huge thing for me but aside from that rest are gimmicks

^you mean the touch pad? I think there will be many appropriate uses.

I also thing the light bar is very cool.

Very cool vid,

Imo the only right way to use the on controller speaker is as a radio from a commander or something. It would sound perfect!

Switching split screen order based on where the controllers are in the room? I never would've thought of that.

Really hoping they DID NOT increase the resistance in the analogs to something like the 360s. They were peeeeerfect with the DS3

Between Cerny's ultra-soft presentation of the architecture, and this video, I'm seeing Sony take more and more cues from Apple with their reveal of PS4.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a run of ads by launch that are just the console on a white background with a word or price beside it.

Am going to need a bigger TV.
I'm not sold on the speaker though, I already play with headphones on.
How much will a separate controller cost? It seems to be very over-engineered.
I think the term you are looking for is "feature rich"

I still don't see the point of the touchpad and backlight. Revolutionizing my ass. Sharing is a nice feature but does it have to have a dedicated button? Well maybe it isn't such a burden.

Seems like a nice controller.

Tracking controller positions with the light bar in order to readjust split screen play? Sony really seem to be thinking of every possible little feature to improve gameplay experiences this time.

Except for the dead zones that are a mile wide. I've been playing PS3 exclusively for quite some time, and it still bothers me. It makes most shooters a chore.

Question is if this will be standard in their SDK. If not it will end up like Sixaxis.

Really like what Sonys done with the DS4. Looks like a far more usable controller than previous iterations.

Genuinely looking forward to a hands on.

I dunno. The split-screen thing is a solution to a problem I didn't even know existed. No one really used the speaker on the Wii controller. I guess there's some use for the touch pad.

It looks so good. Really looking forward to holding it.

Also I think we can safely say that this puts to bed any lingering notion of "hidden screens" and the like, if they are making marketing videos of it, you can bet this is what it will be when it ships.

The speaker and light are so cheap to include, pennies, I can see why. Touchpad is fairly cheap too, and I like that we'll be able to use a pointer cursor at least as well as a laptop user can.

I still don't see the point of the touchpad and backlight.

It will be very powerful in User Generated Content type games like LBP. Also Browser of course. One of the things I always think about is mapping the radial weapon select to the touch pad. Put your finger on the pad and swipe it over to the weapon or item you want.

Besides the point that this doesn't change the gameplay expierence, there are many more effectiv solultions for this problem, which doesn't involve tracking-technology or light bars. Like standing up and change position in the room!

Yup yup.

Also bowing in Dark Souls 2 :p

inFamous 1 and 2 says you're wrong

huge deadzones are he fault of the developer, not the controller

No doubt it could be there but the developers could have the option of not using it?

If you give option to developers they may not use it which is completely not what gamers/Sony want.

For example if Sony will give Option to developers to not use Share Button (block it) then we may as well call it gimick right now same as Vita screenshoot function which do not work in all games. Only in games in which developers allowed for it.

Standard need to be standard to work. It sucks for developers (because some of them do not like something like this) but that is how you make something usable any day 24/7 which is most important part of it.

Same reason why move or kinect are currently gimmicks with little to no worthwile software.

So if they want to introduce splitscreen based on color of light to position Sony need to do it system level where developers can't fuck it up or make it too easy to not use it. Same with other options like voice chat, streaming sharing etc.

He talk about physical analog deadzones which in both analogs are wide. From sensor side there is no deadzone and it is only shoddy developer work as in KZ2 that can fuck it up,

I do see good developers giving you a reason to use the touchpad a year into PS4.

It can take over alot of other behaviors like Aiming, Item placement... Its just another method of input really, Frees up button space for more controls

... How close do you sit?

I actually game on my PC monitor, so pretty close. But with how it's set up, I wouldn't be holding the controller on level with the monitor anyway. Just hope it doesn't always have to be in sight of the camera :S.

Touchpad could be good for sniping. I always have problems with real precision aiming with analogues.

I actually find sixaxis to do a good job to fine tune aiming. It's done very well in Killzone 2 sniping.
