Rule of the internet, don't want to be made fun of? Don't put stupid shit online. Can you take a joke and comments from assholes? Do it, more power to you.

Dude, srlsly?

I'm guilty as anyone for finding the video funny in itself but laughing, bullying and physically messing the guy around to his face? And having to live with the whole world laughing at something like that when you had no desire to be famous or gave permission for his 'friends' to post it online. We all got into things during teenage years but I would have felt like him if it were me.

I sincerely wish him the best in his career and life.

This is so awful. Now I feel bad for finding it so hilarious back in the day, I can't believe such a stupid thing affected his life in such a strong, negative way. It's not that it's not okay to laugh at silly things, but people being rude to him and telling him to kill himself? WTF?
It's one thing to laugh about it in private, it's another thing entirely to tell him to commit suicide, and harass him constantly.

These fucking swines should be held liable or at least publicly named and shamed.

Good to see he's done something for himself, maybe he'll use that law degree to protect victims of cyberbullying.

At least he's gone on to a successful acting career. He's great as Sam in Game of Thrones.

Is this really the first interview he's given? I could have sworn I saw stories about him a year or two ago, covering over a lot of the same ground.

Did they also force (lol) him to swing a pole around like an idiot for a few minutes?

Probably not, but this seems to insinuate that nobody should ever do anything someone else might find uncool. You don't know who might be watching. Upon reflection, we're probably headed for an age when that attitude becomes extraordinarily predatory due to people recording everything, everywhere, at all times.

What happens when people are effectively spying on each other with Google Glass style devices, and hit "send" to upload every mishap or theoretically embarrassing moment to the net for the lulz?

Will assholes be able to find enough time in their busy day to personally tell everyone else alive that they're a f**got and should kill themselves?

FIRST POST NAILS IT!!!!!!

We all do embarrassing shit in private, bro. Even you.

He was a kid. Kids do stupid things, sometimes they get made fun of for it. Few anticipate being humiliated on a global scale, especially not before 2003.

Right, but the kids didn't force him to do the embarrassing shit. He made a choice followed my making the mistake of leaving the tape in a public place. I know he was 15 and less prone to making good decisions (and we all slip from time to time) but he pretty much delivered this one on a platter.

On November 3, 2002 a Canadian student made a video of himself swinging a golf ball retriever around as a weapon. The video was filmed at his high school studio, and the tape left in a basement. It was taped over a portion of a basketball game (as seen extremely briefly at the end of the clip). The video was discovered by a schoolmate, who showed it to his friend who created an electronic file from the video tape.

Oh no, by all means, do what you want to do. More power to you, just be ready to deal with the reaction of putting yourself out there. I'm sure it was a great learning experience for him and pretty much a great warning about the double-edged sword of social media.

I mean honestly, that dude was gonna get bullied anyway. But he brought delight to millions!

On the other hand, this could result in an overload of "funny embarrassing videos" making most if not all of them noise and the novelty factor could disappear.

Damn, he graduated from McGill! My Dad was able to enroll 40 years ago, but I couldn't get in. It's a great accomplishment he has made.

Back then, the consequences for doing something like that were usually "derision from your entire school" at most. Not "the entire planet telling you that you are a worthless sack of fat and that the world would be better off without you just because you decided to play pretend for a few minutes." Only genocidal 3rd world dictators deserve that kind of shit.

Who said something remarkably stupid. Just impressed by all the quotes.

The bolded is literally the notion that almost the entire thread has been mocking Zozz for.

Delivered on a platter? Nope. Our school had a film class with a bunch of old tapes lying around getting recycled. He just used one and left it, like everyone else did.

I don't even know why you're going so far out of your way to blame him. Jesus christ. It's like telling someone who's getting bullied for being different it's their fault for being different.

What the hell is wrong with you? You act like being cyber bullied is just a normal response for doing something stupid. Like that's no big deal.
