None of the two should cock up. It's enough that Nintendo is currently not making a strong case for their console. If one runs uncontested by popular opinion that would suck ass.

Because I don't see anything that Microsoft could announce that would somehow blow the PS4 out of the water. Sony's got their shit together and developed an ideal console for the next-generation, strictly from a hardware and feature standpoint.

When I first started posting here I thought GAF had a strong Sony bias, then I realized it's just a vocal few like James Sawyer Ford drowning out threads. Most posters are pretty reasonable with their criticisms. MS certainly isn't above reproach.

I don't remember the campaign. All I remember was all the glorious hours (honestly days and days and days) spent trying to glitch outside of multiplayer maps. God the engine that ran that game gave me some of the best memories of my gaming career.

More FLOPS for the PS3 didn't help my framerate much in a bunch of multiplatform games.
Its really all about what developers use as their lead SKU, still no guarantee it will be all Sony as the lead SKU

Still feels like games are getting released for the 360 to me.
As far as exclusive games, the only Sony exclusive that peaks my interest in Last of Us, but given how subpar the shooting part of Uncharted was, I'm keeping my expectations aligned.

You are not, trust me. There were some cool moments in the SP here and there but for the most part it had the weakest campaign for me.

I think Halo 2 Anniversary can be justified because it was the flagship for XBL and would be cool to relaunch it featuring all the new additions of live and ect. Now if they make Halo 3 Anniversary then yeah I would say they should just do new stuff.

If MS did their own Rift with that also did positional tracking and but a few studios on it with AAA budgets.

My panties would drop.

More FLOPs didnt help because the architecture on the PS3 was messy to deal with. Sony have gone and designed one of the most dev friendly architectures, and Microsoft looks like their system will be similar in architecture, but weaker...so you will see more direct, obvious differences this gen.

I also don't think lead SKU matters much due to the reasoning above.

Yeah that would be huge, but I don't expect it. There are too many hurdles to the Rift right now for it to be a feasible gaming device. We're a few years away.

I think it's weird that there's a kind of general conception that to even be relevant MS have to blow the lid off E3 or the announce. Sony rock up with sequels to their two most boring IPs and a decent-looking (if unoriginal) racing game and suddenly nothing short of Microsoft announcing SEVEN HUNDRED NEW IPS AND ALSO RESURRECTING KILLER INSTINCT AND HAVING EXCLUSIVE GTA6 7 AND 8 is going to make an impact. It all seems a bit silly.

Even John Carmack (a brutal critic of Sony's PS3) said that they made a lot of wise engineering decisions on the PS4.

It's not so much about "magnificence" as it is about doing everything in their power to make a dev friendly system, that's extremely powerful for the power footprint they are currently constrained with, and that features a lot of innovative features like media sharing.

And when you have a company that has come out and announced pretty much the ideal specs and features for a console, it's hard for me to imagine their competitor "blowing them out of the water". Microsoft could match, or even slightly exceed, but I have serious doubts as to their ability to greatly exceed.
