Hitman Absolution pretty much just informed that I need to dust the guts of my pc. It kept on minimizing itself. After a deep cleaning things seem to be stable. First game to do that on this machine.

I'll have to wait to play it until tomorrow though.

Those are my thoughts about it. I'm sure Derrick would be able to explain it much more clearly.

seems the game is divisive in the way max payne 3 was. some people hated the modern updates, which may seem to be the case here. I enjoyed max payne 3 for what it was and I didn't play the previous entries in that series either so perhaps not having prior entries to judge hitman will fare the same results. However, if the game straight up doesn't work the way it was designed to, then I'll have no problem eviscerating it right along side you.

I used to play Pinball on my 3DS as I thought the 3D effect best transferred the feel of playing a real table.

Firing up Pinball FX2 on Steam in portrait mode puts that theory to rest and solidifies why widescreen monitors were created.

Goddamnit where is Pinball Arcade?

Hitman games are about many things for different people, what defines a Hitman game is the flexibility that is put in hands of the player. To adress some of your points:
so you can't even use instinct, which the whole game depends on?
??? This might change in later levels but im ghosting through them so far. It's forcing me to play extra careful, exploring and observing the surroundings, like i said level design did take a dive but since levels are now more compact there's less tedium when retrying new aproaches.
so if you run out of it, your stealth playthrough is pretty much screwed.
The trade mark of stealth games, many retries until you polish your run. The other alternative after that is improvisation, maybe distract the oppostion and subdue them.
then you probably sneaked past everyone, which isn't what a Hitman game is about,
I adressed this above, yet your idea of what a Hitman game is about is, oddly enough, in contradiction to what the "silent assasin" is about... that is to pass undetected and just reclaim your target.
it never makes sense then, as they never worked as I expected them to.
I.E. the group of exterminators working in the same building should know each other, so i will certainly not try to fool them using an exterminatior disguise.
which doesn't really matter in a stealth game, though I can't complain here
A well thought out control scheme doesn't matter in a stealth game... it matters for almost every game that has been developed. Safe some weird experimental stuff to evoke some kind of emotional response out of the player.
cool, so I can play this social stealth game as a straight-up shooter! (which I did, actually)
You play it the same way as all Hitman games beofre (specially after Silent Assassins)that is, the way you want to. All around shooter, stealth games or somewhere in between.
maybe I wasn't supposed to be discovered, I guess
That's your second chance to not completly f*ck the playtrough, remember you complained about runing out of instinct and the implication to your run. Let me explain, the idea of this mechanic, is to slowly walk to an isolated area and maybe getaway with knocking 1 guy out.

All the above pending of change of course, i'll give it more time to see wich way it goes.

I'll want to close up for now, by saying some people sh!ting the game didn't have the patience to play the game using the tools that were made available specifically for them. If you want oldschool Hitman, pick above expert difficulty, not a 1:1 authentic experience but it preserves most of the essence.

Not even close. Max Payne 3 totally ruins the game flow, it kills any momentun the player builds with the game. The only redeeming quality of that game is the tech that powers it, which does enhance the shooting aspect of the game. Absolution why no where near close the pinnacle of the series doesn't do such extreme sh!t to the degree Max 3 achieves.

Currently going through saints row 3 for the backlog, and the game can really drag on during some missions. The mission design is mostly just really bad with a few good ones inbetween. The world and activities it has going on is just not interesting enough after an hour or two. I would like more original missions rather than drive to spot X and shoot Y. Really like the squad banter, and the main character really suits in no matter what. Volition really nailed that.

Haven't been able to trade these for Anodyne so I'm just giving them away.
Free to players of games.

Air Forte
Avadon: The Black Fortress
Humble THQ (Darksiders, Red Faction Armageddon, Metro 2033, Company of Heroes)
Swords and Soldiers HD
Titan Quest
Zen Bound 2

PM me with the game you want in the title, first come first served.

I will.

To address your complaints with max payne 3 though regarding the "flow". I tried to view my time with max payne 3 as a playable die hard movie, since it did try very hard to be as cinematic as possible. From a storyline perspective this worked, even with the flashback chapters which may have been what ruined the flow for you. From a gameplay perspective this game worked extremely well because of the tech you mentioned, the physics of moving max payne and the shooting itself is what I'm thinking about mainly here (I thought there were some bullshit difficulty spikes with some of the enemy encounters, so I'll give you that regarding the flow). So overall, it was quite good in my mind, though, if you didn't like the story it was trying to tell then I can see how it wasn't for you.

Anybody else is having issues with the Friends servers? I can connect to the app the the store but my friendlist won't connect. My friend is connected just fine on his side.

Profile pages received a huge makeover:

Golden potato no longer displayed prominently on the page. Fuck.

Edit:

woah, I earned a slot for a showcase? whatever that means. haha this is weird

e: aaand its gone. I didn't like it too much though, the whole category NUMBER looked messy

Not sure I like it. I guess I'll give it some time before over reacting but the XP system, increased focus on achievements I dislike. I don't really need more progress bars and oversized numbers defining who I am as a person...

Relegating recommendations to a separate page seems like a poor step. I guess it's good to have an overhaul but I can't see myself digging this long term.

i'm okay with the new layout, the only thing i don't like is the new "profile level" thing, as i've never been a fan of some overarching tally on game systems.

I still didn't pass judgement on the profile thing. It's the amount of games you own or the amount of games you played?

If I were Valve, i'd make it based on the amount of games you own. Games bought on a sale would be worth less. Games bought on the Indie Bundles (or registered through "Retail Keys", let's say) would be worth even less/nothing at all.

And Player Guides would be the most valuable item of them all, but only if you bought it full price. Buying them on sale would actually diminish your number.

Profile level is determined by the badges you have and each badge is worth an X amount of XP.

There are like 10 more activities to do for the Pillar of the COmmunity badge. Vote on Greenlight, Subscribe to an item on one of the Workshops, comment on a friend's profile, rate an item on the activity page, etc.

I wish they would overhaul the wishlist. That thing is really annoying to work with once you've got a decent amount of games on it. Still though, these changes are interesting.
