I'm kind of late to the topic but I have been reading a few E3 Nintendo direct rumours. I'm not the only that thinks there is a huge lack of 3rd party stuff in these rumours am I?

Learn what ? Don't re-write the history to fit your pitiful grudge you want to settle with me since one year (i warmly encourage folks here to do a simple research using kandinsky + ideaman, or skiesofwonder + ideaman, it's very telling). By the way, i think this defamatory attitude/long-term unwarranted troll mode is a form of harassment, so i hope it won't remain unpunished.

There are three different assessments that i've made, publicly available on past threads where you can read that 95% of the stuff i've said has been confirmed, with some very specific points who have been met with dozen of pages of circumspection (like the memory breakdown with 1GB for games, 1GB for OS). I won't re-do the list, but between all this OS story, the double DRC support, the myriad of details on the dev kit (for example the V1 using a wii classic controller connected through an adapter, confirmed in multiples news weeks or months after by vgleaks), the reveal (in text as i was grilled by the photo leak, but any mod can confirm through my private messages that i've detailed it to several persons like lherre months before) of the updated gamepad with the exact location of elements such as the NFC sensor or TV button, the no system redesign, the 720p machine, the use of nintendo characters in scribblenauts, the announce of a "next-gen" title (that most have guessed) before its proper reveal, most of the OS features described, etc etc. Even the Rayman legends leak, when you factually remember the events, you had the image leaks, and i've given details on how it will be a wii u title and the team behind it before it was revealed by the press a day or so after. Phew. Oh and the 512MB of a specific NAND flash memory, different from the storage, confirmed months after by vgleaks then months after again by the teardowns (yes, it's totally "vague" isn't it ? i could have totally invented that, isn't it ?).

And it's not finished as i've planted "silent bomb" here and there that will be confirmed come E3.

This revisionism that sprout gratuitously from time to time, from the same 2 or 3 bitter-mens, is somewhat amusing :)

Yeah no, it all sounded like it could have been educated guesses at first but StarTropics? Believe me I'd like to hope this is true as much as the next guy, but no way are Nintendo having their most talented western developer on one of the most obscure Nintendo IPs in existence. I'd believe the "Retro is doing Mario Kart" theory over this.

I will eat so much crow if this turns out true.

Fixed it for you. StarTropics is awesome man.

Admittedly, I have never played it and I believe you that it's good but I don't see Nintendo getting Retro to spend 2-3 years making a game from such an obscure series. It makes little business sense IMO.

I will be checking out StarTropics now though. Should I start with one or just start with the sequel?

A new IP makes business sense to me (obviously as long as it's not in lieu of any major franchises), and for all intents and purposes StarTropics would be a new IP.

StarTropics is essentially a new IP now, Retro could probably turn it into pretty much anything they want. As a bonus though there's nostalgia for the name, even among Nintendo fans who never played the original games.

The first is the best one IMO.

Well either way, when the "cable guy" gets proven to be sourcing us fraudulently, StarTropics still has the potential for a significant resurfacing one day soon!

Anyone that says they know the exact name of an upcoming game just needs to put it through a one-way hash.

Easily provable that they knew what it was pre-reveal and near impossible for anyone to find it out beforehand.

Those all seem like just safe predictions except the Retro bit. I just can't see Nintendo pumping that many resources into StarTropics.

Why do some people think of startropics as a waste? It would pretty much be like them working on a new IP... which many people have wanted. They could turn it into almost anything

It's not high on my list or even on my list of things I want to return, but more interesting than a sequel to donkey kong or metroid prime.

Why on earth should I be excited about Star Tropics?

Because the original game was actually a lot of fun.

A solid action/rpg on the Wii U would be great alone, but if it was set in the Star Tropics world it could actually turn out to be pretty great.

No, something like that could be a ton of fun. It's just that I don't see them putting those kinds of resources into something like that – hell, I'm pretty sure the original StarTropics games weren't even all that popular back in the day.

The best part about star tropics was the setting

Actually, the best part about star tropics was dipping the letter in water. Blew my mind as a kid.

To my shame I had to look up what star tropics was, as I had never heard of it. From what I have seen it could have the potential to be something good.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
Just like Skyward Sword, Nintendo could make new IP, and slap on an original IP name.
I believe bhp is 100% toying with us, but video game companies have been known to do this?
Remember the Bomberman reboot? Yeah.

StarTropics series reboot as an Uncharted/Tomb Raider clone.

It could fit with all the hires Retro Studio has made. However I doubt it would look realistic though. At least in the Uncharted way. Not Nintendo's style. It would be more stylized and colorful like Metroid Prime I think. I wouldn't want it to be a pure shooter. Just how Metroid Prime wasn't a pure shooter. No waves after waves of enemies or any crap like that.

Thing is I have no real memory of StarTropics as it's been so long. Until the Wii U's virtual console is sorted out I doubt I'll be able to play the original as I don't feel like buying Wii points.

I still have a problem with the idea it being something people have been asking for or wanting them to do. I would be more incline to consider something like this if those words weren't apart of this. That makes me think fake or at the very least someone is feeding someone else lies on purpose. However I'm not against a reboot if it ends up being the case.

Edit:

Okay here is a let's play of StarTropics I came across. If this is true or even if it's not it's interesting to watch and try to imagine what a reboot could be like given what the original was. Zelda 1 like with a more alive world I think.

It's important to note that Star Tropics is a comepletely westen focused IP. Never released in Japan, although it had Japanese designers working on it.

Giving it to Retro DOES make sense, and even more so since Nintendo wants to appeal to western gamers too. Make it a first person Action RPG and you may have a hit.

StarTropics could essentially be Retro Studios take on Zelda, and a game offering a solid alternative to Zelda is exciting to me.

This is interesting. I don't know if anyone else has made the connection yet, but a lot of what this bh7812 guy says isn't inconsistent with what an alleged "close Nintendo source" told TSSZ News earlier this week: http://www.tssznews.com/2013/05/21/rumor-sources-claim-on-nintendos-future-lineup/

It’s unknown who is developing this game, but the same source claims Retro Studios is working on two games at the moment. One of them will be huge; it will in, fact be revealed in a Nintendo Direct event after E3.

TSSZ News Source said:
Retro: Finally after at least a few years development, their game is finally ready to be unveiled. What is it? It's an old Nintendo IP that people have wanted them to do for a while, but no one thought they had the guts to do it-but they did. I'm very happy with the one they chose to do. It'll definitely fall into that "Wooooo helllll yeah!!!" category for a vast majority I think. Trailer set to be shown at the Direct.

Super Smash Bros. 4...As promised by Mr. Iwata and Reggie, it will finally be unveiled during this Direct. What you're about to see is...odd. How to describe...there will be an unveil trailer, and during this trailer a few characters in the. Roster will be announced. All the others are black shadowy silhouettes. You should get a good idea who some of them are, others will be "Who the hell's that supposed to be!?" The full roster will be gradually unveiled from now till release

TSSZ News Source said:
The game will feature slightly different gameplay than older installments of the Smash Bros series. The 3DS version will be very different to the Wii U one, content wise. There will be a few newcomer characters shown at the teaser: Little Mac, Takamaru, Tom Nook, Palutena, Dark Pit (the source says he is not sure if it’s a transformation for Pit like Zelda/Sheik or a standalone character), and Bayonetta.

Also, I thought it was fairly obvious that he was joking about Star Tropics. As if Nintendo would suddenly resurrect that series. And if he is serious, then...that actually is pretty inconsistent with the other rumor, which was that it is a shooter.

I'm pretty sure he copied those TSSZ News quote and made a post about them. Lemme find it.

EDIT: No, it's just very similar.

After the Throwback Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, I wouldn't be surprised if they went full out with a Retroverse kinda deal.

oh really?

Well, he already private mail'd someone a list of SSB4 characters and it's not that great list. It had baby mario and company in the list.

I will riot if Baby Mario is in the roster. I will literally take a bus to Redmond and form a picket line with other Smash fans in front of NoA's HQ.
