Depending on how it ultimately appears, I'd actually be okay with a cube-shaped console. They're economical, and the thing would contrast well against the black cinder block Xbone.

Really smart of them to already begin, people not just on GAF or other video game message boards here are just really pessimistic regarding the release of the console, expecting to get it in may 2014, when they want it this christmas.
CL final tomorrow, hundreds of millions people will watch it, i wonder how they will advertise it for the mass market. The PS4 reveal was more geared towards developers and enthusiasts.

It's on its way, no doubt. But the people here in the U.S. usually don't need to worry about whether or not they're included when a company says "Global Launch". This is all likely to compliment the PS4 being touted as a sponsor during the CL Final tomorrow.

I find nothing unimaginable when it comes to Sony and european hardware launches...but it is hard not to get hopes up seeing all this activity.

MS is prompting XBone too and that's fresh in people's minds. So getting these out now during the slower months gets people excited and gives the machines visibility in the run up till launch.

Exactly how I feel. Kept my PS2 library and still expanding on it today. Would take a lifetime to get through the complete list.

Small chance it might be the PS4 case, but not the box art, no. Higher chance it's just a regular PS3 box.
Those boxes would be for taking to the till to preorder.
Looks like a clear plastic holder with preorder jewel cases.
