Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

Is MS providing any reasons for why these interviews are being cancelled? At E3 on the eve of a console launch is pretty much the least likely time you wouldnt have people available and ready to talk all day and night about your consoles launch.

Kind of odd that this all happened so suddenly on the same day that the xbox 1 yield issues news broke.

If I had something to hide I'd sure as hell avoid Klepek.

This silent treatment is hilarious. It'll end up being as smart a move as running from the cops.
Naa it'll be fine. They will stay silent to keep the games press from going nuts. This will lessen filtering down to mainstream and in the end most consumers won't realise what they are buying into. Most enthusiast gamers will be happy to bend over to get Halo 5 or the next CoD.

Now they are also canceling one-on-one interviews. What is going on?

lol Obvious choice given their angle. Some of the mainstream media would have to cover it if they went through with it. And we all know what questions will be asked. And we have an idea of what those answers are going to be. Kind of pointless. This is probably the best decision Microsoft could have made in an attempt to avoid negative press from mainstream media.

Hmm so whats the real reason? I have seen that their executives have meetings outside the industry that conflict with these roundtables, I have seen that their executives want the conference to be about games so they are canceling the roundtable, these forums suggest they are afraid to answer these questions..

Now they are canceling the one on ones...Did they not at least give an official PR spin move in the post excuse and claim this is somehow being done to benefit gamers somehow?

Imagine that... your subscription runs out and you can't play any of the games you've already payed for.

Shit....they could probably justify it with all the talk about the 'cloud' and game servers.

This better not happen, although I don't think Microsoft would stoop that low

So in other words, they are cancelling every interview that they cant completely control the questions being asked.

Might as well just read a PR statement.

Ironic that Sessler was one of the first journalists to said "Wait for E3" for all the answers.

Guess we will have to wait a little bit longer.
And I believe it was 'wait for the reveal' before that.

I hope that at least some sites that might grill them a little like Kotaku still get in, or we'll be in the dark til launch.

Not ready. They obviously didn't expect PS3 to be significantly more powerful/more appealing to their core audience, nor did they expect the post reveal backlash. They are probably changing the narrative of their communication 10 times a day, all the mistakes they made make me believe they are now very nervous. In that case better not make further damage.

Ignorance is bliss.

Yeah, this is a great way to punish the gaming media for publishing all those damning direct quotes from MS representatives following the Xbone reveal...

It's sounding very likely that we're not going to have any details on used games/DRM until it's in reviewers' hands in 5 months.

Exactly why this makes sense given that they seem determined to start their silent DRM campaign. Microsoft is trying to get people to buy the system based on their goods, read games, before they even know what they bought. They probably think the average consumer won't care, and the ones who are still unsure will realize its not as bad as it seems. Of course, this is their hopes. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

I don't know what you're getting at, but by mainstream I don't mean IGN or GameSpot, I mean CNN, CBS evening news, etc. More casual/general networks and media. :D

I can actually imagine how challenging it must be to fight the bad PR, there are so many questions and its totally possible those answers are not what people want to hear. How on earth can they fight it without delaying the release?

Maybe they are going to reveal something huge like No 24 hour online check, no used game fee. They will blow everyone's mind with their reversal of their shit-brained schemes. They will conclude with that and review to answer any questions, do interviews, etc. Get hype!

(it's fun to dream...)

Um, wow. What the hell are they doing?

Does he have any follow up tweets? What reason/excuse did they give for cancelling the interview?

Pretty cowardly if it was done to avoid the interviewer asking any hard questions, but I'd like to believe/hope they wouldn't cancel for something like that...

It sounds like a full on PR lockdown: perform the E3 show, reveal new titles and IPs and present an extremely positive view on the system, and let the event speak for itself. No follow up interviews removes the chance of press articles with awkward questions or interviewees letting loose bad news.
Presumably MS hopes in the following weeks the any good will from E3, plus very limited negative press coverage will swing the Xbone back into favour.

Uh, not too hard to figure out. They feel like they've been roasted alive by the gaming media (despite the fact that they did this to themselves), so they're opting out of any opportunity for the general gaming media to ask them anything outside of a pre-approved, fully MS-controlled environment.

ms: "always online and our drm solution offer a lot of advantages to our consumers!"
press guy: "name one."
ms: "abort, abort!"

a damn shame. ms is not just repeating sonys mistakes from the (pre) ps3 launch, they are even worse...

I asked this before but did Major Nelson delete or edit his tweet about gathering answers about DRM, used games, always online, etc and sharing them before E3? I cannot find it anywhere..

He stated he would share them before E3 and with everything getting canceled, I have a feeling he will say nothing.. He is currently dodging the questions on twitter it appears and I would love to see if that tweet still exists.. Someone asked him about it 2 days ago and he didn't respond. I am sure its screen grabbed somewhere here...

They should not of made decisions that led to the bad PR in the first place. Marketing a box reveal to a audience you would suspect has little interest in the majority of what you are about to be showing is a clusterfuck in itself
