My head hurts trying to understand this.

What is the average non gaf-gamer going to think?

How on Earth is the general public going to be able to make sense of this?

The casual gamer or family member simply won't know until they buy the system

Doesn't sound awful and I'm glad they cleared some stuff up. I don't understand why they waited so long though.

This.
If they came out with some of this info more people could be on their side.

"Imagine a world with ONE box that could do everything. And you can play your games anywhere and share them with friends and family. This, is Xbox One."

But no, they went with: "Imagine a world with ONE box that could do everything. And all details will be answered later, or contradicted by our executives. This, is Xbox One."

Gamestop is the bane of the industry.
Microsoft removes private competition to retailers.

This helps the industry how?

So if your internet goes down for more than a day you are stuck with a box that can play games but can't play games.

I don't know how anybody can purchase this system.

lol... people are really not getting it. YOU COULD DO THAT BEFORE! Just bring the goddamn games to your friends place. Now you'll have to log in, download em and once you're logged out, he won't be able to play it anymore

Well now, i could be at my friends house and think oh hey, have you ever played this game? Let me log in and show you mate

Highlights (lowlights?):

No renting, no loaning. No private sales (unless selling to someone who has been on your friends list for 30 days)

Console Checks in Every 24 hours

Trade-ins are up to the publisher and only at participating retailers

You can give a game to a friend only if they have been on your friends list for 30 days, and then it is stuck with them.

Up to 10 family members can play your games from any console at any time

Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.

I'm having some trouble wrapping my head around this. Are they saying that everyone in your home can use your Xbox? How is this a bullet point?

Here is how it hurts Amazon: No private sales enabled. Which is stated.

It helps GS via PARTICIPATING retailers which already stated GS is one of the participating retailers which means this can easily push smaller game stores out of business.

And if you think that isn't bad enough, wait until Amazon starts being overrun with returns from people who don't hook it to broadband after launch.

"Why can't I play games? It's broken. It worked 24 hours ago!"

We need the seven gif... it is so very, very true. Essentially they changed nothing, just didn't want to give all of the bad news at once. Authentication checks hidden under the term always on until the gaming public freaked out.

I'm loving watching this building burn.

Too many deal-breakers.

It seems like the whole tone with MS has drifted into "super-villain" territory with this console.

I'm having some trouble wrapping my head around this. Are they saying that everyone in your home can use your Xbox? How is this a bullet point?

Yeah, what's so revolutionary about this?

MS: "If somebody comes to your house, it is okay to let them play your games. Look how generous we're being. You should be thankful."

not to rain on the negativity parade, but I didn't realize the whole "infinite power of the cloud" thing (seriously)

your games install on the cloud? so how are you going to play them at a friends house? streaming? or does it require a download of some kind

seems like a nice idea in theory but I'm confused as to how they're executing it

It's like any multi service system, say netflix. You log in with your one account across multiple devices, or in this case Xbox Ones. At the moment on 360, you can only login once. If I login on GFWL I log out of Xbox 360.

They would not allow ten people to log onto one account at the same time, that just doesn't make sense with the Xbox Live setup.

What makes sense is everyone still has their own gamer tags and you allow ten people to access your shared games.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
Check-in?

It sounds like something a parole officer would say to his client whence staying at a half-way house.

The ability to "reauthenticate" over mobile broadband is interesting. It'd be nice if you could sync via your phone's Xbox app or something so that even if your home internet is down, you'd be ok with a cell signal

But the real question is how many people would go to such great lengths?? And isn't the xbox apps exclusive to windows phones? now how small is the windows phone install base in America, let alone the world!

How ironic. All the people who saw GS getting hurt as a silver lining for restricted used sales now have egg on their face.

It says you can authenticate with mobile internet--smartphones.

This is all exactly how I assumed it would work, give or take a tiny detail here and there.

This is terrible.

This is even worse than what I was expecting. I can't believe they give publishers the option to block used sales.
And that's on top of all the shit that was already known.

I don't get the 10 family members playing your account thing? Is it like when we could share our PSN with 5 people? If so what is it for me to stop registering 10 friends as family members and then split the costs of every game that gets released. That would cost me like €6 a game. I don't get it at all.

Jesus Christ! This is absolutley disgusting. I WAS on the fence with this console. Now, I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

People are okay with this? Damn, maybe that was MS' plan all along. Condition people to expect something REALLY FUCKIN BAD, and only get something FUCKIN BAD, so it's not as awful by comparison.

This ain't looking good, this ain't looking good at all. I sure as hell hope Sony isn't gonna follow with practices like these.

There's no way the family plan allows people to buy one game and share it between ten people. What company would allow that?

The family thing sounded pretty good but then i noticed

You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

but maybe thats parsing it a little too closely

Those 2 things are the only difference I believe. Those 2 things ease it up a bit but it's still pretty much the same exact thing as before.
I wonder if 3rd party publishers can opt out & block you from sharing your games with those 10 family members.

I wonder if its possible to game the system, and just designate 10 of your friends as family members?

So, everyone chips in, buys one game, shares among 10 people.
