For some reason, I misread the OP as limited to 10-minute sketches, so I tried to keep within that time limit but ended up spending about 20 minutes. Good thing to know that it's a minimum of 10. I'll keep that in mind next time.

Tried drawing the view from my office using ms paint but ended up not liking the freeway and changed it to a river last minute:

I was surprised how many tools ms paint added since last I used it.

Used a Fujitsu ST5112.

[edit] I normally get enthusiastic about joining these threads but always back out because I hate how horribly out of practice I've become. Time to suck it up and contribute!

this is pretty interesting to look at.
I'm glad you liked it. I'll definitely do a couple of more animal drawings and get some colors going on my incomplete stuff. :)

Ok, some kind person give me one tutorial website and one free software I can use with my Bamboo Pen & Touch to start drawing for this thread. My life has enough choices as it is.

My advice would be to start drawing and don't think about it too much. Use Microsoft Paint if anything. Didn't the tablet come with a full version Adobe Photoshop Express? I know all Bamboo models come with it and Adobe Air. Ask your bro if he has the disc and install it into your computer.

That said, CTRLPaint will teach you everything you need to know about digital painting including short cuts (which are a god send). That website is amazing. I haven't viewed all the beginner lessons, but I have enough knowledge that I can draw something pretty decent (hint: it's all about layers and making a color palette).

A quick Google search on free digital painting programs revealed these programs but you should try doing something on MS Paint in the mean time (even though I don't think MS Paint registers the amount of pressure you put on the tablet).

Mind the compression, posting from a mobile phone using Imgur Uploader.

Did a design for Deejay, the CQC/Grenadier class from Livechamber. Took about 45 minutes, still need to touch some stuff up when I get working on it digitally.

Missed a day, will try and catch up. Want to finish this but yeah.. I seem to hardly ever draw more than one person in a picture, nor do i ever draw scifi type stuff so i thought there's only one way to get better

Time : about 3 hours? Maybe a bit less?
Tools : Moleskine sketchbook and mech pencil (parker .05mm)
Notes : It's okay to use curvy lines sometime. Use them! Also, learn how to have reasonable sizes that actually work between characters.

Day 1:

Time Spent: 1 hour...
Medium: Artrage 4; Wacom Bamboo
Notes: The title is The Other Side
I do abstract and minimalist art based on depression, and this happens to be one of them. This piece is meant to depict the moment someone dies due to suicide and the gap that leads to the afterlife.
Loving the atmospheric brushstrokes here. Nice subtle movement.

What software do you use?
Photoshop CS5. Before that I used CS2 and PS7. (Adobe has made CS2 available for download. This thread on Adobe's forum suggests that despite the message on the download page, it is legal to use the program without purchasing another version. I don't advocate illegal software use, so please, read the thread and see if I've interpreted this correctly.)

Honestly, in my experience software choice is not the most important thing. Photoshop has an extremely rich feature set, and that's why I use it, but a lot of the bells and whistles aren't strictly necessary for digital art. Even most of the basics aren't required. I used to think layers were everything, and then I watched Nebezial paint masterpieces in an hour on a single layer. I used to think custom brushes were indispensable, and then I found out that Feng Zhu uses Photoshop's default sets, lol. (But to be fair, Neb's work does make a strong case for custom brushes.)

I would strongly urge anyone who doesn't have Photoshop (and those who do, for that matter) to remember that drawing and painting happen in your head, not in a program. Your task is the same no matter what you use: figure out what your medium can do by trying stuff! Oh, and if you're not making loads and loads of mistakes, you're doing it wrong. Mistakes are how you learn. Just experiment, and if it doesn't work out, great! Really, that's what you want sometimes. It makes you better informed for the next painting and you will learn all sorts of wild tricks by accident.

The weathered hide on my dong dino happened when I played with the scatter and direction settings for a ground texture brush. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The AndroidArts tutorial and OpenCanvas 1.1. Bam. (That CTRLPaint site Jipan posted also looks good.)

Also, if you haven't already, please read Hannes's FAQ.

Didn't say it in the Arts 'n Farts thread but I love your style.

Day 9:

Wacom Bamboo/ Art Rage 3
20 Minutes

Spend two hours trying to draw one of the love lizards from rhythm heaven, but it just didn't work. It's really frustrating to realize how hard it is to get really simple drawn characteres right. If you mess up one proportion the whole thing looks like shit.
So I gave up and scribbled a dolphin infront of a sunrise instead... meh :/

Animal Crossing came out today so yeah!

I'll be going on a week long trip tomorrow and I'm unsure about the internet availability so I might not be able to get something up every day.

That's so cute. I was away on a trip on the weekend so I have been slacking off. Will try to make up for it next week.

Thank you for the compliments on my drawing, it really does have an atmospheric look, doesn't it?

And the bolded felt inspirational, I am trying to experiment with Artrage 4 but sometimes I get problem getting the selection tool to even work which can be infuriating if you rely on one program for your artistic needs...(As for the Artrage 4 thing, I could use some help why it's not working...) But thank you for the words of encouragement!

I doodled a bit last night and got a few results, only one felt pretty OK about:

Think of it as a wallpaper!
This really isn't a depression piece but more of a doodle, took me 20 minutes to do, done on Artrage 4 with a wacom bamboo. I'll post a better piece today if I an.

Actually managed to get a digital version of Deejay done today. Concept is finalized, just need to tweak proportions a bit. Typical scribble version to showcase the entire design blocked by the gun (known as an Oscillator).

Time: roughly 2 hours?
Photoshop CS5, Wacom Bamboo

I keep finding it more difficult to draw my foundations straight on the computer these days, so I'm really trying to force myself (and really struggling like BAD in the mean time)

ibfzbuZN2omZR8.jpg

I'm starting to give up any hopes i have of being good haha . More space stuff. Was trying to come up with a reasonable design but, no. Today is not that day. I will get something decent one day maybe.

Time: I don't really know. Over an hour sadly.
Tools : Wacom Pen and Touch, CS6
Notes: Try to be more relaxed when doing digital line work.

Sorry for being absent from this thread for the last week but I got sick on Monday and didn't get back to work until Friday. I'm going to need to start catching up. Here's my first drawing, a value study from the Disney short 'Paperman':

Time: 1 hour 14 mins.
Medium: Photoshop CS2
Notes: Getting back into the swing of things! Took a while on this one but I still think it looks better as a thumb than up close :(

Time: 1 hour 14 mins
Medium: GIMP + Wacom
Notes: There is one (and only one) awesome thing about North Korea and that is the 1950s Soviet-style architecture + iconography. I particularly like the subway train stations. Painted from a photo reference. I'm not very happy with it but the problem with drawing in your lunch break is that you are time limited.

Was doing some doodling during the MS conference and a little before. Quick drawing so it is abit rough and I probably could have cleaned it up alot more. Been in the FFXIv mood lately lol.

Day one of my drawing career:

tried following a face drawing tutorial. Failed miserably, laughed heartily. So this is how it feels to really suck at something. Well, that's why I'm doing this. All it takes is persistence, just like anything else in life. Also, my gf drew bunny ears and a pink penis on him.

Day 3:

Time: 1-2 hours
Medium: Artrage 4, wacom bamboo Tablet
Notes: Title is Dusk Grass. The end of a day...Grow from the blood, sweat and tears.

A bonus doodle:

Time: 10 minutes
Medium: Artrage 4, wacom bamboo Tablet
Notes: Title is Toothpaste. I honestly don't know what this is but it came out of messing with paint tubes and I got this effect. I like the effect anyhow.
