Shin Megami Tensei IV |OT| The Dark Souls of Persona

Pretty excited, will be my first mainline SMT game (I am a big Persona fan though). Hopefully easy will be easy enough for people as awful at JRPGs as I am, cause I know I will definitely be dying a lot.

Will this be the type of game that will be very rare after a few weeks in retail?

Maybe? I still copies of Strange Journey around but Nocture is pretty rare.

At the very least I don't think they'll be making a ton of first copies with all the extra stuff.

register FEA and SMT IV on club nintendo and you get 30 bucks of eshop money.

Deal was leaked early and got removed. Probably saving it for next week when SMTIV is out

Edit : apparently it has to be eshop purchases though which i guess heals the wounds of not getting the physical copy extras

Huh... I never registered my FE:A code lol. I still have it lying around after I traded that in.

So, score I guess.

I can buy them retail and register on club nintendo and still get the eshop credit?

Dont know but the pic of the deal is here

Not much to say. It may have to be digital versions though since it is promoting it through eshop

have to go digital with this one, first dd 3ds game I buy.

apparently it's 14k blocks. I'm not sure how large is that in human language right now.

Completely forgot about the size of the game digitally. If anyone can get an exact size, I'll add it to the OP.

I bought the physical copy of Fire Emblem though...

Oh well, there isnt even a Club Nintendo in my country, so its not like it matters to me anyway. :/

Why does Nintendo even use this block language, anyway? Its dumb.

aww crap might apply to retail too? Well that sucks. Now I have no motivation to get both digitally >_>

I don't think registering FEA already will affect how you get the 30 dollar credit so long as you buy both and register.

So who's ready for 7 weeks of post-release DLC?! I think the final (?) DLC for the JP release hits this week. Sounds like it might be some sort of story DLC.

The last DLC definitely looks like it might be story heavy for a few reasons. I'll probably grab it either way.

As for the game itself, I personally loved SMTIV and as of right now it's my game of the year. The combination of strong gameplay, a really compelling story, and a huge world to explore put it over the top for me.

I didn't review it, but I did do an import preview after I completed the neutral route. I would have given it an easy 9/10 if I was assigned to it.

Headphones on handhelds always.

I do most of my handheld gaming during breaks at work, and Project X Zone has such good audio I have to turn it down. :p

Hype

Great OT, Volcy. I'm actually playing P4G right now, so looks like I might end up playing the two games concurrently. That should be fun. :)

Hard saves or temp saves?

Hard saves.

Doesn't sound much better. So far the Japanese DLC have been nickel and dime shit like 2 buck costumes and 3 buck "quests" which either involve exp/ap/macca farming drops, or special boss fights which unlock extra demon fusions. Typical Japanese RPG DLC. :(

Think of the DLC as a real money version of this fella:
5mIGQPT.jpg

Some of the unlockable demons are just palette swaps with convenient skill sets, but all of the DLC bosses come have unique skills. Because of the way the skill system works in SMT4, those skills can also be your skills.

I suppose I should have expected something along those lines. Oh well, I can just ignore it then. If they do have one that is some kind of proper story addition then I may go for it.

I wouldn't expect much. The one they're teasing this week seems like it might have some story stuff to it, but the Director (or someone) said that they didn't want to lock away important parts of the story through DLC.

I'm not a huge audiophile, but I played with headphones and adored the OST. The battle themes were fine, but the real meat comes in the form of the different area themes. A really cool mix of genres.

On a technical level, the audio quality seemed fine? Again, not a pro.

So Ryouga, can you tell me if the cinematics are subbed please ?
I just saw a japanese portion of the game which had what looked like a movie and subbs, but with my past experience with Atlus games I prefer to double check.

Compared to Soul Hackers, I mean. Much of the audio was barely, well, audible.

Pre-ordered during Future Shop's E3 deals... Shin Megami Tensei IV (Nintendo 3DS) $33.32. So happy I pulled the trigger.

Hype reaching critical levels..

Great OP!

I've been seriously vacillating whether or not to preorder this game. Actually, I keep preordering and cancelling my preorder. I honestly don't have time to play this game, and when I do have time to play, it's Animal Crossing, VLR, Luigi's Mansion DM, or Fire Emblem Awakening just to name my recent backlogs. I don't want to miss out on the goodies, since $50 is the MSRP with and without them.

I'm really hoping that Amazon makes it go on sale sometime in the near future (Luigi's Mansion is $30 right now).

Since I bought FE:A on eShop day 1, I'm hoping I am eligible for the $30. It would be a great incentive to bite right away. I'd use it for Pokemon Y digital.

Maybe I'll just buy it and only start playing it like by the end of the year?

This would be a very odd post if he was referring solely to eShop codes, which register automatically.
Holy crap, I think this pretty much proves retail copies count for the offer. Still wanna hear word from Nintendo, but damn, my 3DS is gonna continue to get some awesome love with PxZ, SMT4, and FE:A.

Oh yeah, are the pre-order costumes just for looks, or are there stats attached to them. Getting the GS one, but would rather have the Amazon one instead.

Looking forward to this game. Also curious to hear about this upcoming NA eShop deal with Fire Emblem: Awakening. (As far as I can tell, buy both get $30 back in credit, no press release on this yet)

(And yes, my 3DS is now charged! :p )

I can't find this on the eshop anymore has it been removed?!

Wow, if that's really what they've been referring to... holy shit. Atlus and Nintendo really getting tight, because this is an amazing promo.

Just hope it's applicable to Canadians too.

Crap! Totally forgot about this since I'm using the Canada trick to buy games on the eShop. Would suck so bad if I won't be able to get that $30 credit :(

Getting this next week, and then going on a 13 hour car ride back home for a summer break, so this game should keep me occupied during the trip. Probably won't play much when I'm actually at home though.
