I'm kinda glad that there aren't more Mini Squid Girl segments. I'm not sure my heart could handle it.

ahhh, so he's the one behind the glowing eye trails during the fights lol. More than any particular bit of animation, though, I think the camerawork made the fights.

No Umakoshi was a key animator not an animation director for the movie, he wasn't behind the glowing eye trails,he wasn't in charge of the visual style of the movie.

the animation director where

Chief Animation Director: Masayuki Sato(animation director for op strong world)

Animation Director:
Naoki Tate(animation director op tv,op movie 9)
Ryō Ōnishi(op tv and toriko tv animation director)
Takahiro Kagami(yu-gi-oh and death note animation director)

The glowing red eye trail was probably assistant animation director Masayuki Takagi idea as his done it before a few times with zoro in the anime (warning spoiler)(animation director but animate by some else).

Umakoshi did do some great key animation I spotted in the later parts of movie.

Happy Birthday, RyougaSaotome! May you gift us more fun stories for many years to come. :)

There's twitter as well!

It's one of the OTs that's been destroyed by the tiny picture site filter though.
I was sad seeing what had become of the MGS4 OT, but at least that one was fixed!

Speaking of anniversaries, it was today right about now a year ago I made my first post on NeoGaf in AnimeGaf. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39912541&postcount=11642
Congratulations, Nafe! Living until the first year here would have been a success for a lot of posters (not that you will have any problem beyond that being this nice).

I'm going to go ahead and add it to my anime viewing rotation, it's been a while since I've watched anything Lupin anyway so I might as well go for it.
I hope you end up loving (again?) the Masaaki Ōsumi episodes, the love he didn't receive at the time... :-(

As always, catalina (@ginban_catalina) with the quick review of Studio Ghibli's new digital disc releases. Apart from the obvious resolution benefits the format offers, much better detail on picture avoiding a contrast crush the previous digital master had. Amazing treatment as usual from PACR!

And remember this Blu-ray Disc in one of the compatibles with their MASTER GRADE VIDEO CODING solution (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=53398398&postcount=10016). I'd love to see that one day and know how it compares...

TL Note 2: "buhibhibhihiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" means "oink oinkoink squeeeeeeeeaaall"

Running 12 days behind the AT-X broadcast, my most anticipated anime of summer has finally started streaming on Niconico.
With no safe days between TV and stream, I'm actually kind of glad there's not much talk about this show in this thread because then I'd have to abandon the thread for three months.

I'm not one for big write-ups on episodes (I tend to mostly just reply to other people's posts) so I don't have a whole lot of things to say about it, but trust me I'm squeeing gleefully as I type this. Tomoka is cute enough to cause irrecoverable heart attacks, and the other four are no slouches either. Next episode should see some basketball action with the new fifth grade girls.
The visuals are looking good, better than the first season's first episode, and the new opening and ending are great. (Halko Momoi's ending lyrics are genius.)

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! Episode 2: Needed to watch another episode to confirm my feelings, and indeed I have come to have developed a healthy and robust hatred of this program. I have already detailed why in my first episode synopsis and those reasons have not changed, I will however also add that her attitude get really tedious really quickly since she only has that one cynical note to play. Indeed the overall show makes me feel like I am watching an episode of Doug when even more social awkwardness. Yea, this show is dropped like a microphone.

Right Stuf is great. They don't wait for release dates and the end of the year sale is godlike.

This is true. I got the whole dvd set of Cardcaptor Sakra for 80 bucks. Thats 18 dvds of the uncut Geneon set. Its worth much more than that.
bargain of forever!

I haven't watched that, but if it's about airsoft stuff, I doubt I really want to...

But can't you see how creepy that is, for people who know what damage actual gun culture does anyway?

gun culture isnt so bad. Im really used to it though.
Right now Im walking the Mall in washington DC where there are no guns and I feel very insecure. Extremely vulnerable. Not a good feeling at all.

Certainly. It's creepy from the perspective of people who know what actual gun culture can be like.

Japan doesn't have that though. It only has a low level enthusiast culture that will never reach the point that it has in the west. Living here in Japan, I don't find it all that creepy anymore, though I would if I still was in America land.

Here they sell guns in parking lots. Not a big deal.
legal and familiar.

Utterly fantastic. As if I didn't need more going wrong on my life, my laptop just completely failed. Dunno if it's salvageable or not. Some stuff was backed up and most of my browser stuff is on the cloud, but I may have lost a fair chunk of multimedia.

Of course I can keep tabs on basic web stuff via smartphone but this will largely put me out of commission for the next week or so, if not more.

I need to replace my desktop. It restarts successfully 1/4 of the time.

I bought Steins;Gate set 1 today, so that will give me the complete series when it gets here. Amazon said it would be a while though. But I can wait. Excited to start it though since most people say it's great.

This is an excellent purchase. Cannot recommend it enough!!

Simulcast for this started in Italy yesterday and I'll say it was nice, both the episode itself as well as the editing of stuff in it.
The episode was quite hilarious and informative, just like the manga (though I find the manga more hilarious) and characters like Tamako already show off how awesome they'll be.

i'm finding it difficult to determine (solely from reactions since I'm playing too much goddamn Civ to watch any anime) whether Watamote is repellent because it's bad or if it's repellent because it's good. Kind of like the Aku no Hana situation

why so clothed...best one, well if the boots were removed...

AoT has the sexiest military uniform that the entire cast wears everrrrrrrrrrrrr. Dem straps

why so clothed...
They're full-price covers (as opposed to magazine pack-ins), so most likely the final designs will be double-sided with a second illustration in addition to the samples they have up now. So there's still hope for less clothes on the other side.

I'm kind of annoyed both Movic and Cospa seem to have settled on 150cm for all their covers though. That's awfully short for most characters so they always have to draw them with a lot of leg-bending. Wish they'd switch to 160cm like some other companies (e.g. Chara Hai and Chara Ani)

Who's to blame for the weird but kinda awesome cg fight cuts at the end? Zoro one was really nice looking. Makes me wish cyber connect would make a one piece game in their naruto engine.

Well this shows it just doesn't work as anything longer than a 5 minute episode.

What in the cute is this? I need to see this.

Can like, all kids in Japan draw really well, or what? Cuz being from the Glorious Murican Umpire, I have all the artistic talent of a caveman, and none of the wit necessary to make paint from animal fat.

Once you are exposed to enough hnnngh it shows up in your art.
mine is a decent example.

This is awesome stuff, its effectively told the character fear with brute force.. wow, even me intimidated with that
Red Shoulder sequence and song

Really nice.

I hate character being emo.. truly hate it, but this time its felt so understandable why the character act like that, why its feel so sudden not even bother me because how effective the atmosphere potraying that.. wow these two episode, might my favorite set so far.

Those are still otaku-centric stuff, not any surprising.. I know you being sarcastic, but yeah..

Turning Girls 5

I don't normally post impressions for this, but it was a really good episode. There was a nice mix of cartoonish goofiness and real life insecurity which hit what I think they were going for way better than that first, kind of annoying, Kaerun episode.

Watamote 2

I don't think I'm in the right place in my life for this show, but Tomoko's weekend day out with her friend hit pretty much everything I liked about this manga. It's awkward without being uncomfortable, and it's broadly aware enough to give the audience perspective on the wider world that Tomoko shuts herself away from.

Free! 2

I liked this more than the first episode, but I have a hard time caring about the main cast. Haru's singleminded obsession makes him difficult to empathize with; he's antisocial beyond even Oreki. And the jokes involving him have been really one-note so far.

This episode had its moments (Ama-chan-sensei's humor is a welcome antidote to Nagisa's grating energy), but I feel like a week will come where, like Tamako Market, I'll just stop watching and never resume it.

Nano and professor-tan are certified moenukes.

I like this Kuroka! I like her alot!

Superb episode , it was intresting from start to finish.
That moment up there is when i lost it ... Impressive work on the jokes. Superb setting and such a waste of perfect animation .

BRILLANT !

Best moe abuse since Chuuni.

Dat Kotaku anime review madness.

Next up? Flowers of Evil.

http://kotaku.com/flowers-of-evil-is-a-boring-unengaging-anime-796064813

Daaaaayuuuuummmmnnnn gurl.

One of the few articles they have that I agree with. Easily one of the worst anime of the year with the most unlikeable main cast.

Flowers of Evil is easily one of the most unpleasant viewing experiences I have ever had. It is a boring, unengaging series filled with questionable story and character choices that only amplify the anime's major directorial problems. Simply put, to enjoy a slice-of-life story, you must empathize with the characters—feel what they are feeling. Everything about this anime seems aimed to prevent that connection. It's just an utter train wreck of a series. I recommend it to no one.

Why are they all crying? This is supposed to be a happy show damn it.

This flashback episode was the best one of the entire anime, really enjoyable and well paced. It also made me realize that the writing is at its best when it only involves the 4 girls without any adults interference. This episode also confused me, I was under the impression that Fuu and Kaoru were childhood friends, but they don't recognize each other here.

The role of music is vital in any film, TV series, or anime. Simply put, the music tells you how you should feel about the images you are seeing. In an action film, the score swells with big triumphant notes as the hero mows down the villain's army of minions—making you feel pumped up, rooting for the good guy. But the same scene with slow calm music can evoke sadness at the futility of war and all the lives being lost.

Flowers of Evil, on the other hand, doesn't use either of these musical tactics for the most part and, instead, rarely has any music at all. This is a terrible idea.

Music is a huge part of how we connect with characters on screen on an emotional level. So while a rare lack of music at a critical moment can make you unsettled and unsure how to feel, a near total lack of music leaves you at first confused and, later, emotionally detached from the characters you are watching. And given how thoroughly unlikeable the main leads are, they needed any amount of help they could get.
what the fuck is this shit

Oh yeah, it just so happens to be the same writer too. What a hack.

I want to check that link so then I can go to his twitter or something, but nah..

INB4 he write something bombastic about Titan.

"Anime never dig to this deep of subject" or so I imagine.
