FRIDAYTON MK II: 5.5 million bears and salmon create unholy allliance to sack SONY HQ

Hey guys! I just read online that the PS4 is literally just a bunch of dicks taped together, and dicks have hardly any RAM. We should all cancel our pre-orders based on this unconfirmed, but plausible, speculation!

yes. it will do only gaming related multitasking, like vita. with 3.5 gigs of ram.

Guess not. Guess Sony is going to announce at Gamescom their partnership with ESPN2 and Telemundo and how they've completely did a 180 and are now a set top box. Stop being obtuse. Besides, this is a rumor until we get confirmation.

Mark Cerny isn't a SONY employee. He's merely a consultant.

This is where your credibility finally goes out the window.

Fantastic news for Titan owners, no possible need to upgrade for the entire console generation. Though if you own a Titan you're probably constantly upgrading.

Still think it's fake. I mean, would you really throw away that big of an advantage over your competitor if you were in Sony's shoes?

Pre-order cancelled. How about you?

You said you will buy me a PS4, you remember?

It doesn't make sense to add so much GDDR5 ram due to 'listening to developers', only to reserve the vast majority of that for the OS and to give developers perhaps an extra gig to play with.

Sony is betting on the PS4 being a 'games-first' machine this time around and GDDR5 RAM is a significant expense. I doubt Sony would be stupid to incur all of that extra cost for multi-tasking or some OS feature they cooked up over the period of a few months. The average gamer simply doesn't care about that, so the cost to benefit ratio wouldn't be there.

pretty much.

How can the OS footprint balloon out like that? Why haven't other devs been more critical and outspoken of Sony right now? Why is no one else picking up on this?
Arren't ppl saying "Sony never officially said it was 1gb beforehand anyway". Much like "MS never officially said 10 ppl full game sharing beforehand anyway."

there is not high end pc.

anyway ps4 is not very powerful. Its a cheap budget console. The only thing that actually set it apart. was the ram.

now that is gone.

Well then perhaps you ought to buy yourself a luxury console because clearly you may be aware of them unlike the rest of the world.

It is still the more powerful console, with a better GPU and better RAM. But if this article turns out true, a bit too much of it is reserved for system functions for my taste.

Why wouldn't they use 4GB of GGDR5 and 4GB of DDR3 then, and be much cheaper and still have much the same specs?

THIS MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE.

Lol this is actually funny lol. How many Dragon Ball Z levels is the PS4 now? Oh wait its the same as the X1 my bad my bad....nothing to see here. People do strange thangs for 8 GB of gddr ram. Canceling a preorder is just plain stupid.

The vita will run a game and skype at the same time with no hitches or anything, what else do you want your console to do? I honestly can't fathom what you could possibly do with 3.5 gigs of DDR5 on a console OS. The OS couldn't even use the bandwidth for starters, and you probably couldn't even occupy that much memory with an un-optimized bloated OS. Seems like massive overkill.

Funny how Jonathan Blow already blew by that 4.5 'confirmed limit' and jumping into .5 of the speculated 'flex ram' territory.

Do people who keep mentioning this actually have some sort of basis to claim that such functionality requires insane amounts of RAM.

Just a guess, But You have to think for them to record lots of video in the back ground they will probably store a lot of it in ram before they write it to the hard drive.

Uhh...what?

Pre-order cancelled? More PS4s for me....

People are insane if this is their reaction, even assuming the rumor is true. I'm gonna be a later adopter for this gen, just because of my game backlog and limited time to actually enjoy the darn thing, but if this change makes the pedigree of Sony's developers, their long list of interesting IPs, and comfort working with smaller game creators vanish from consideration, I can't understand it. The PS4, with or without this change, will be an exciting and distinct system. If you have the time and money to enjoy it, for the love of Pete get in on it early and ignore the background noise.

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her

My DVR simultaneously records three 1080p HD streams and only has 32MB of RAM, what witchcraft is this?!?! :p

Tin foil hat on:

Gotta hand it to MS, their marketing money is being spent wisely. :D

Yeah, no, I really have no idea

Is Cerny Games part of SONY?

I would not be surprised if a few years into the PS4's cycle the OS size will be reduced by 1 gig thanks to optimization.

I mean; that is doable. Right?

Will happen. The PS3 launched with a 120mb OS usage, and right now sits at 50mb, which is 59% smaller
