Sony was already losing $200-$300 per PS3 sold at 599.

A 'reaction' would've been catatrosphic to Sony. Less we forget that Sony also had an extremely poor line-up of games for around 2 years, which meant that Sony was unlikely to recoup back the loss from software sales for the short term anyway.

And who's fault was that?

They should be. Just as Sony was scared shitless of the XBO before it was announced. Works out fine for peeps that like games.

Yeah, you're right. It's just since it's reveal, sooo much has changed or is rumored to be changed. It's like a whole different console almost. If they truly thought they had a winner before they revealed it what were they thinking? All the things that have changed since the reveal should have never happened in the first place IMO.

Whatever, hope it's true. The better the competition, the better for people that like games, as you said. :)

We don't know how you'd snap applications, we don't know how you'd "instantly" switch between games/apps/tv without kinect, we don't know how you'd use the TV functionality without kinect, we don't know how you'd interact with snapped applications without kinect (how would you switch inbetween control of the game and the app).

Stuff like that. I'm sure you could guess how it might be done with a controller, but we don't actually have any details on that.

And even then, I look at kinect sort of like a touch screen on a smartphone.
Sure you could use arrow keys and a select button to navigate, but having a touchscreen makes the smartphone so much more convenient and useful.
So even though kinect might not be required to use the features, it makes them so much more feasible on a console.

MS already said you can turn Kinect off, meanwhile using the console. I fail to see why it is required, again.

Looks like Sony goes after Microsoft at Gamescom again this year, if MS announces any big changes, I wonder if Sony will straight out counter with their own changes.

I don't even care about the games at GC anymore, I just want to see more political maneuvering in the extreme. I expect eventually someone will pull a knife and shiv an employee from the competing company. I just hope it's not Adam Boyes.

Yes You. Can. Dude, do yourself a favour, stop embarssing yourself and go give yourself a history lesson on Microsoft's financial decisions regarding their consoles.

Fact - They were willing to take a HUGE (not really, but by your palty standards) risk with Xbox, lost billions, moved onto 360.

Fact - Lost billions on the 360 too, then reaped it back in the latter part of the gen.

Fact - The EDD/360 is making significant money now. So they have a buffer, something they've never had before.

Fact - If they deem it important enough, they will swallow a $bill ($100/10 million consoles) to gain parity with PS4 and it still won't come close to losses made on Xbox and the early days of Xbox 360.

They have a history for this, they have the funds, and you think $1b is a risk?? They lost like $600 million from Danger a year or so back, $1b is nothing to MS and it's overlooked.

But consoles aren't the only thing that Microsoft has to worry about. That's what your not getting. So they take a hit on Xbox...Okay..On the other end, PC sales are declining. This is not 2006 before Tablets and Smartphones were running the show. Windows 8 is not gaining any traction. WP8 is not gaining momentum. A reconstruction did not happen because everything is going right. Just like everyone else, The same thing can be said for Sony. They lost lots of money as well due to

A) Because of their ongoing old age incompetence to adopt and adapt to new technology,
B) Putting investments into meaningless things that never brought back any returns
C) A lot of natural causes that cost them billions to fix (earthquake etc)
D) The Japanese Yen that was too strong to help them compete against the Koreans..
Etc..

So surely, MS can take a hit for bring down the price but it's not something , in your terms, they can just eat up and take..They are an entire business, and they do not only operate on Xbox terms.

Edit: And how would losing to Sony be a bigger risk? The cost isn't the issue that will cause MS to lose to Sony....It's the message that will cost them. Look at Nintendo, the Wii U is cheap, and a more argumentatively speaking, innovative product than the PS3/360 so why isn't it selling as much? Because the message is not clear. Microsoft needs to work on why paying so much money for an Xbox One makes it better than Sony. Dropping the price doesn't always do that. Obviously Apple gets away with making people pay out the ass for iPhone, iPads and Macs because they tell you why it's better. Sony still has yet to do the same thing for their products and that's why they continuously lose money. If your Tv is 800 dollars and Samsung is 600, why should I buy yours?

Has anybody noticed that after the E3 conferences, handytips.info went over a month without posting new stories? Obvious trash blog by some 15 year olds masquerading as a news site. Anybody old enough to remember the glory days of angelfire has been there, done that.

I just dont understand the issue with the camera. If you can disable it then what is the problem? The majority of us are sitting in front of a webcam and microphone right now.

We'll know soon enough. The rumor regarding Microsoft reversing its DRM/Always Online policies came from a site that nobody heard of. But like all rumors, this should be taken with a grain of salt until proven otherwise.

Whathifi is pretty well known and respected. It has existed for a very long time.

Seriously this. The NSA stuff has people losing their minds lol.

What does the NSA have to do with this? I'm more concerned about how kinect data being stored might be vulnerable in case of a security breach. Of course developers won't have any bad intentions.. but in this day and age security concerns are always there.

Again, I want the kinect in the box. Just give me the option to use it when I want.

This is an Xbox One:

and this is an Xbox One that has reversed it's DRM and indie policies. Or, you could just call it an Xbox 180.

And this...

ssj2_goku_01.jpg

...this is to go even further beyond...to drop the price and mandatory Kinect...to allocate less RAM to the OS, use a stronger GPU, and more clearly integrate CLOUD technology directly into multiplayer games.....to add Xbox 360 BC...aaaaaaaaaafhrjg5ejghEGJHJSEGFJSGJRHFDSGH

Still worse than PS4 aka Super Saiyan God. :D

Because, presumably, it would become something widely adopted and used.

Even if you had it unplugged, the day might come when you'd plug it in for something. Its a great idea to standardize video calls via Skype, for example. You know that if you buddy has a X1, you can video chat with him.

Well that would be a shocker and it would certainly create some ripple effects. Hope it's true to watch those.

Too late, it already damaged the Xbox brand for me. I may reconsider my support the generation after the XBO if Microsoft changes for the better on their own accord. After all their screw ups the change was only due Pre-orders scaring Microsoft silly.

Nope Microsoft, you don't get all these chances after showing your true colors, and at this point Microsoft would have to pay me to support them this coming gen over a more powerful, better designed, and sleeker PS4.

If they revised the price to match the PS4's... I think I'd bite, honestly. Probably switch my preorder over. Dat XBL > PSN.

You say 'lol' as if it's impossible.
Anything is possible. Hell it's possible that everything you're doing at any moment is being tracked and stored in a DB somewhere. The 'lol' is for the people that actually stress themselves out about these possibilities more than anything.

Wow, this just keeps getting funnier.

There is only one chance for a first impression. I don't think we've ever seen MS in such a panic.

Yes it is, because overall they're still making the same amount in revenue and profits as before, but more importantly, and you keep ignoring it, the EDD (Xbox Division) is making $1b profit a year and $10bill+ in revenue.

That sure is one handy tip!

Edit: Back on subject. I really doubt they will lower the price. They're already going to be selling a gazillion of these things at $500, why throw away money? They may do an early price drop late next year but that will depend greatly on how first-year sales are going, which nobody can predict right now.

As for the "reintroduction" they've been doing a great job post-E3. Just continue the good press and ride it out until launch. Can't wait for Gamescom!

People keep throwing around statements like that, but how do we know how many they've sold? Yeah, they claim they sold out of launch allocations at Best Buy, or whatever, but then they magically open up again down the road.

That $500 price tag is gonna be an uphill climb. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them drop the Kinect and go $399 if the pre-order numbers continue to disappoint, as they did initially, which is why they dropped the DRM.

And my point is that XONE requires the sensor (calling it a camera is like calling an iPhone a camera since it has one). MS sees it as integral to the Xbox One experience as the controller or the HDMI port.
Yet the market and media - mainstream and enthusiast - is not on board. Certainly not in the numbers you'd expect considering the dominant position of the 360 in North America. You can say it's integral as much as you'd like, but saying it doesn't make it so.

Haven't they already said you can set it to not listen if you choose not to have the ability to use the 'Xbox On' function?
I don't want it at all. It offers nothing of value to me, and if I really need to play a Kinect title, I can always play Dance Central on my 360.

It's strange something that's "integral" can be completely turned off, making it...err, not integral, yet still required.

You're right, it can be turned off, but you lose functionality. According to MS, some games or apps that require it won't function without it.

So my point was that if you don't want to play games or other apps that are unique to the Xbox One experience, why buy one? PS4 will meet all of your needs and then some.

If the issue is price, as I mentioned before MS has many other options like subsidizing the console or bundling it with other services like Cable and Internet.

I hope this is true for all the people out there who want an Xbone, but for me the damage has been done. They could drop the price to $99 and I'd still get a PS4.
