The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is $59.99 at Amazon

If people thought it was a rip-off at $50 this really shouldn't change their minds.

Nintendo plays these mind games with me where they do things so illogical I feel they must be logical and I'm just not capable of comprehending their master plan of assured world domination.

*hugs 40$ preorder*

Thanks futureshop, My girlfriend is looking forward immensely to finally playing this game.

their reasoning was probably somewhere like if they allowed it in single-player you'd constantly blow your rupees on it. the gimmick was a multiplayer thing. if it existed only as an option where first player used pro controller, second player used pad, players would probably be outraged over how inconvenient it would be to have that setup going. i think that'd be OK myself since the original required gamecube setup was pretty outrageous itself, so it'd be a good throwback. maybe they learned their lesson already with that, though. i haven't heard any official reasoning yet.

I only ever used the feature alone so I don't know. Iirc, Link stayed stationary while the tingle tuner was in use, but I could be wrong.

Why on earth would you make an HD game 60 dollars?!

Then again nintendo software is always expensive. Skyward sword is still upwards of 30 bucks and OoT 3D is at least 25 in most places. These are for used copies too.

Oh well.

Edit: Didn't see that this wasn't an official price, first statement is kinda worthless now but the second statement is still true, ninty software seems to hold its value for a while.

Amazon and Nintendo heard the feedback from the community that many were expecting to pay $60 or more for Wind Waker HD, because, as some pointed out, "It's Zelda."

Cue Vader's "I'm altering the deal" speech.

I got it for 40 from future shop e3 deal but i feel like an idiot for pre-ordering this instead of wonderful 101. Why not both you ask? im an idiot

I still feel like canceling my wind waker pre-order full retail is a bit ridiculous i thought it would be like 40 bucks at retail.

I'm a Wii U owner, really wanting to play some new Wii U games, and Wind Waker is one of my favorites of all time. I'm actually really looking forward to playing the HD remake.

But I won't be buying it for $50 or $60. It's crazy that they expect people to pay that much.

It's a great game that's certainly worth the price tag, if you haven't already played it.

I can wait until it drops, I'm in no rush to replay Wind Waker.

Its 50 not 60.

It's not 60, it's 50.

..... The game is not $60...

Vindicated! As I said, I just didn't buy that the game would be $50 as other online retailers put it at $60. Looked like Amazon just goofed on price.

But wow, fucking Nintendo. No way I'm buying this game now, completely out of the question. There are more than enough games coming out this year to keep my attention, hell there are more than enough Wii U games coming out at the same price that offer way better value. Sad thing is WW HD will probably sell a lot better than most Wii U titles this year which isnt sending Nintendo the right message.

Is anyone who was scoffing at $50 now wishing they had preordered?

Besides me :(

Not at all. Decided not to get it when they announced the removal of the Tingle Tuner. No reason not to have it with the gamepad.

It could have been a great title to show off the gamepad but Nintendo blew it again.

Anyone want to make a bet that this will be the worst 1st month sales of any Zelda game in history?

Excluding CD-I, and also probably NES/SNES/GB/GBC since I'm not sure we have legit figures for them.

It will probably be the best selling Wii U game released in 2013 before Donkey Kong and Mario come out. (yes even better than Pikmin 3, as much as I hate the thought)

If one doesn't agree with the price they shouldn't buy it. Simple as that. No need to get nasty about it. I preordered the game when it showed up as $50 on Amazon but even then I still might not keep it. I've never been a big Wind Waker fan. When I really think about it I never even finished it but I still have my GameCube copy. While it looks nice I've yet to see anything shown off by Nintendo that really justifies it being $60 or even $50 for that matter. In the end "because it's Zelda" doesn't really cut it. If money gets tight over the next few months it will be one of the first games I cut from my buy list.

Having the game do poorly is on of the things that will wake Nintendo up as to what they're really doing. They are still hoping for this holiday to do well for them. I hope it does too however part of me wishes things would turn out badly because if they don't they're likely to keep going in the manner they are and think they can pull what they've been doing the last several months again with the next system or hand held. The negative fallout for their actions or lack of actions should be significant for them to change how they make decisions.

Going back to Wind Waker I think Anouma's team might be proven right in the end. In interviews he has said they were against rereleasing Wind Waker because of how it was received but he fought for it. I do think the hate and dislike for Wind Waker has died down and gone away. However I don't think that hate and dislike was ever replaced with love and fondness for the game. Those that disliked it just moved on and enjoyed Twilight Princess (which sold significantly better then Wind Waker) and other games. The result will be interesting to see.

It will sell. Trust me.

I wouldn't keep your hopes up for amazing numbers. Ocarina of Time 3D sold less than 450k in its first three months in the US. Considering the status of that game vs Windwaker (plus Wii U software sales), that's probably a best case scenario.

How do Square Enix, perpetrators of the infamous "Square Enix Tax," offer a better value for HD up-ports? How?

Are you that surprised?

A) Nintendo adopted the Square Enix tax on DS for all titles on 3DS.
B) Star Fox and OOT were full price. If they are releasing remake-lite N64 ports for $40 on their handheld, why you expect a similar treatment of Windwaker on Wii U to be $40?

I think the PS3 has a pretty established history of HD remake collections being released at $30-40. Probably why S-E is sticking to that price.

since i've never played Wind Waker, it'll be like a new game to me

this better be the greatest HD port of all time to justify the price

I'll give you OoT as a "remake-lite" but Star Fox 64 3D had completely overhauled graphics and re-recorded dialog.

This is hilarious. I loved Wind Waker, but there's no way you could ever convince me to pay $60 for a remake. Especially one that I feel looks worse than the original in ways. This seems like a great business idea though. We can't make new games that people want, so let's charge absurd prices for old games that some people want.

If you can't see the difference between the care they've put into this "HD port" versus a $39 effort like the Jak collection or something else that's put through the ol' "HD Filter", then wow, I'm sorry?

But whether you think it should be $20 or $60, it doesn't really matter -- no sane person thought Nintendo would honestly put this out at a budget price. Which is why I jumped on a preorder when I saw it at $49 last week.

Just posted a message on Miiverse about the price. I'll try to make a cute drawing later on. Cute drawings get loads of yeahs.

I thought this was going to be a cheap digital only game. But evidently it's supposed to be some flagship title for the Wii U? What is wrong with you, Nintendo.

I don't get this thought process. How did you arrive at the idea this would be a digital only title game?...

I don't get it. The expectations from some people are absolutely silly.

I can see the care, difference and the price they're asking between this and upcoming SE HD remakes, and it really is no contest who's putting value and more work out and doling out a better price.

MGS HD Collection gave me MGS2 HD, MGS3 HD, Peace Walker HD and more for less. What the hell? A single HD remake for full price? WindWaker is my absolute favorite Zelda but this is nonsense.
