Downsizing inevitable.
Nintendo and Sony must be eyeing this company like candy after the monstrous amounts of stupidity that is continually happening. The Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider IP's alone must be worth a shit ton money.

You do this to yourself Square Enix.

- Fuck you for your stupid bone headed decisions.
- Fuck you for putting Kingdom Hearts on every fucking platform ever with zero care for the fans who want to keep up. PS2 --> GBA -- >DS --> PSP --> 3DS --> Cell Phones.
- Fuck you for making Star Ocean / Infinite Undiscovery exclusive to 360 and killing of early HD RPG games.
- Fuck you for just NOW discovering HD Remasters of previous titles, and not being forward thinking enough to release them on 360, Wii U, PS4, Xbone, or PC.
- Finally, Fuck you for relegating the following titles to obscurity or giving them the iOS treatment:

Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Kingdom Hearts
Einahnder
Grandia
Valkyrie Profile
Ehrgeiz
Threads of Fate

Is it that hard in this day and age to port these games to all platforms? Don't miss a single device. Not doing a Vita port, PC port, or Wii U port is money left on the table. Continue hemorrhaging, the vultures will swoop in eventually.

who'd want to play those when they can dress up inflatable lightning instead?

Sigh.. sad but true. So much potential squandered through idiotic decisions. Question tho: Do you really think SE will eventually bought by the likes of Sony, or Microsoft if this downward spiral continues?

Mana's creator made three screwups in a row. It was amazingly nice of them to allow him that many.

Chrono Trigger is 20 years old. It's long past time to let go.

Kingdom Hearts isn't obscure or regulated to IoS.

And no one would buy a new Einahnder or Ehrgeiz ; they weren't even that good to begin with. Whatever fandom they had is long dead.

Your other complaints have merit, but these aren't valid.

Time to fire a bunch of actually capable western devs so Toriyama can afford his new Lighting pillow.

Simple solution:

1. Fire everyone involved with any thing to do with Lightning.
2. Fire everyone making an iOS game.
3. Find the guy who made Final Fantasy XII, give him a bag of money, contact the folks behind the Luminous Engine.
4. Port Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Kindom Hearts etc. to every platform ever and include online play.
5. Hire the best indie guys money can find, and get them cracking on some 2D RPG goodness.

Profit.

Ironically enough Sony owns at least 10 percent of SE last time I heard
so make that FF7 remake and you fix the problem.
It ain't that easy son.

This really needs to happen. There's a really big crowd for classic 2D JRPGs. If they can get mid-sized projects rolling in at a steady rate, they won't be a need to milk the mainline FFs or other franchises they have, just to make ends meet.

Besides the obvious Final Fantasy VII remake, I'd think their far more cheaper trump cards would be Final Fantasy V and VI remakes on 3DS.

The 3DS remakes seem like a no-brainer, with later ports to IOS and Android.

FFVII Remake would probably be way too ambitious for their pockets.
Even with the foundation laid out, with the original game.

Looks like its time for SE to play their trump card.

If they want to avoid disaster, a Final Fantasy VII remake needs to be made immediately. All resources that are being used for other titles need to be shifted over to a Final Fantasy VII remake ASAP.

That would take the company faster than it already is.

IOS and phones are where the industry and all developers are moving. Incredibly low production costs to profit.

SoM and Chrono are 20 year old dead franchises and their respective creators have long since moved on.

2d rpg games do not sell. Look at TAY. And before you say TAY sucked, it was written by Tokita and was basically FF4 remade--meaning that a game done exactly like the old 2d rpgs actually doesn't sell great in today's market.

Honestly, a lot of your suggestions seem to be a desire for things to be the way they were 15-20 years ago...

So...is it time for dat FFVII remake yet?

It's ok. Dicking around with mobile junk and more sequels to FFXIII will surely save them.

LOL, R.I.P Ninten... Oh wait! Doom looking for easier targets...

On a serious note, have anything good come out of this S-E merger? I believe they were better off as fierce competitors[/hindsight]. 'Buddying up' made these guys complacent as ever, and apparently, an internal wreck.

Not agreeing with the post you are responding to or anything, but TAY sold over 3 million.

You honestly think a FFVII remake would be anything less than a disaster? The expectations are through the effing roof for the remake, due to heavy nostalgia glasses, and I don't think the undertaking of something so prized should be attempted, while the company is gasping for breath. The project would be far more expensive than any SE project in the work right now. It's not like they can *poof* a remake into existence. Not to mention some aspects of the game straight up, can simply not be re-created without causing major issues (honey bee/cross dressing scenes, ALL mini games, Barrett and Cid's cursing, Barrett's character in general, etc.)

I'm of the mind that a FFVII remake simply will never happen. Even as it's my favorite FF of all time, I don't want to see it unavoidably butchered, just to try to please fans. The franchise has long since moved on. I think people need to face reality.

The merger was 10 years ago...that's a lot of games to say are awful.

Would Square even exist anymore if they didn't merge?

All of the people saying mobile games are the problem, they are they only bright spot. FFVI and VII should be re-made, and it should be on phones.

They need to pray to every entity imaginable that 14 ARR doesn't fail. They are so fucked if it does.

THIS. They can not afford for FF14 ARR to fuck up. :| Also no way ARR goes f2p anytime soon.

Let the Chrono dream die already, Square doesn't even have a new dream team to pull a new one off.

It's their fault. Their fanbase was ripe and ready for a remake years ago. Instead they did jack. Now the expectations for the remake skyrocketted ridiculously, while the window on it being relevant keeps closing. In the meantime, they're too busy giving us stuff like FF:ATB and more Lightning.

Aside from the stability of Dragon Quest releases and having tri-Ace help out with developing FFXIII-2 to get it out the door? Enix was always more of a publisher than a developer, so the vast bulk of staff and upper management at SE are/were ex-Square employees. Even Yoichi Wada.
