RUMOR: Playstation 4 to launch October 21st

Nope, I said I find unlileky they will launch before, not later.

I find it highly unlikely that one of Xbox's biggest titles wouldn't be the target date to launch a new console hence why MS stated November & not holiday like Sony. But that's just my opinion.

Yes based on the release date of a single game, which is what i was referring to. With that line of thought you could say any next gen game launch could dictate the launch date of a platform. Watch Dogs is not a launch game anyway so it's irrelevant.

Yes, I agree with you. In fact, I was referring to the PS4 lanuch date.

Ubisoft already announced that Watch Dogs is a PS4 lauch title.

Watch Dogs will release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U on November 22, and be available at the launch of PlayStation 4, Ubisoft has announced.

I don't know if it was discussed somewhere already. From EU PSN Blog:

Even if you start playing on PlayStation 3, we want to make your transition to PlayStation 4 easy. That’s why we’re notifying the devoted Battlefield and PlayStation communities that all of the time and effort you spend building up your Battlefield 4 stats will carry over when you upgrade to PlayStation 4.

That way, on 1st November, you can get in the game without any worries that you’ll have to start ranking up all over again when PlayStation 4 launches. We got your back.

Does this mean that PS4 is not launched in EU before Nov 1st?

This means EU is after November 1st.

Oh right, my bad. RE; PS4 release date. I can't see it being any later than 29/10/13 tbh, Everything Sony have done thus far as been nailed down/shit together road mapped to debunking the XB1 from Kaz saying "why go first?" To 8gb's GDDR5 to no DRM only to let MS get the jump & release 1st? I just can't see it going down like that! Plus with at present a weaker launch line up releasing alongside BF4 AC IV makes sense to me anyway.

I think PS4's gonna launch close to the end of October or in the first days of November, (like the 26th of OCt, or the 1st of Nov) in the US, Canada and a few weeks later in major EU markets like UK,Germany,France,Spain,Sweden; in Japan, Russia. And the rest comes in mid December.

I have a feeling that Sony wants to be the first in US, they have a chance the go neck-to-neck with MS, and even if they don't outsell X1 and just go on par with it, that would still be a major accomplishment for them, as the US is Xbox territory. (most of it)

I think people are reading too much into that BF4 statement. I would think it's more targeted to people who aren't buying nextgen day 1, not people who can't wait a couple of weeks to get their BF fix. They're just letting everyone know that if you want to play BF4 on nextgen but aren't getting the consoles immediately you won't be wasting your time and can still buy the game when it's released.

I think they'll release simultaneously in the markets that they relieved the retail price in ie; NA, EU, UK. Sony going after its perceived weaker markets NA/UK which makes sense whislt keeping EU locked down.

Why would it change? It simply stops being a launch game if the PS4 releases in October.
But who is to say that it has to release alongside current gen?

Their messaging is clear. November 22nd for current gen and at next-gen launch.

They've been saying the same for COD, too, but people keep assuming November 5th.

Take EA's sports games. FIFA releases in September but will be at launch for next-gen - so does that mean PS4 releases next month? No.

Surely they know now. Yet, the Watch Dogs launch date didn't change.

Why would they change the release date of the current gen version? That literally has nothing to do with the PS4. And they're not about to announce "PS4 version of Watch Dogs available Oct.26th!" Sony is going to be the ones to announce their product's release date. No one else.

Well, I find very unlikely that Sony does not want to have a big title like Watch Dogs ready for launch.

Why would they release the current gen version after the PS4 version? You are assuming that when Ubisoft announced the release date, they had no idea when the PS4 was supposed to launch, which I find very unlikely. Ubisoft needs as much time as possible to complete and polish the game, and thus they need to know when the game is supposed to be ready.

Hey, I know you! Hello old friend! ;)
What's up Nightz!! Hope all is well.

I've done the same exact thing as It makes the most sense for me. I can easily drop the 450 (after taxes) for the console on launch day but i'd never hear the end of it from a particular person. Going the amazon giftcard route, I can easily fit it into my entertainment budget. For example, I have a 200 dollar monthly entertainment budget. I can spend the money on movies, cinema, theater, games, whatever. I use a little of the budget each month to pay off the console without having to give up movies or any other luxuries.
Also paying it off gradually like this ensures no interest on a credit card
I also would never hear the end of it from a particular person, but decided to just stick to the financials of the situation. I am pretty much in the exact same situation as you. I too also think it makes no sense to have interest on a credit card.

you guys saved my PS4 thanks for the tip :)
Awesome. Always glad to help. Enjoy that PS4!

Ok, thanks for taking time to explain this.
Hope you don't feel offended by my generalization :)
Not a problem, and no offense taken.

No it doesn't.

All it means is that people who pick up the PS3 copy of Battlefield will be able to transfer their data over when they eventually pick up a PS4.

The way it reads to me doesn't sound like the PS4 will be launched before or on October 29th.

Developers dont decide when the ps4 is coming.
Hell they didnt even know the final specs till 2 months ago.
People read to many things in release date comments from developers.
Games can be done early, they can still be delayed.
People seen to forget even if the ps4 launches early, people will still get the ps3 version or 360.
Not everyone is a early buyer for next gen.

I wonder if they will announce the North American release date at Gamescom.

Seems like a weird place to announce the American debut of Sony's newest console. At a friggin European games event.

It could be a worldwide date. Besides, they've announced Japan and Europe dates/prices at E3 in the past I believe.

I can see october.
September is whishful thinking though...
The games aren't even ready and Sony is not lounching this thing before or at the same time as TGS.

Gamereactor has talked to the PlayStation distributor in the Nordic countries, Nordisk Film Interactive:

[Danish]Sony lover: ingen forsinkelse på PlayStation 4 herhjemme

Translation: "Sony promises: no delay on PlayStation 4 here".

Translation: Gamereactor has talked to Nordisk Film Interactive, who manages the PlayStation 4 sales here, and they promise that PS4 will be sold here this year. At the same time they encourage us to watch the Sony press conference at Gamescom on Tuesday, so we might get a release then?

Is this new thread material?

I doubt this means anything. It's likely that they don't even know the release date, and assumed it would be after nov 22, hence launch title.

The game has only been demoed on PS4. Sony has a marketing partnership with UBI on the game. No way the PS4 version launches later than the other versions.

I could definitely see it coming out in October.

With Killzone being their big first party title, they may hope to try and launch the console and it before CoD, BF etc. so it sales more since shooter fans need one to play day 1.

Though I'd think Activision and EA would get those games out day 1 regardless unless Sony did some surprise launch which isn't going to happen.

I don't really care when it launches personally. I have it preordered, but have plenty to get through on 360 and I'm not super excited for the launch games anyway. Just getting it day 1 as I do want to play some of them, and I want to keep up with games from day 1 to avoid having a backlog at all next gen.

As a bureaucrat well-versed in hazy phrasing, my opinion is that this sentence means the PS4 launch is AFTER October 29th. You can get the game on October 29th for current-gen and don't have to worry about transferring data when the PS4 launches, whenever that may be.

Pretty straightforward, I believe.

10/17/13 might be dlc for TLOU .....

i can see this 21st date happening tho.. then by december the other territories get it.

WILL WHAT DID CBOAT SAY GAF?

im still a junior...

Ha, your question regarding Cboat illustrates your junior status :)

Cboat is a shadowy figure, but people have deduced he must work somewhere in Microsoft because his leaks are all related to their content. So Cboat doesn't say anything about Sony because he wouldn't be in a position to know anything. And now you know!

Well this is win win for Sony, either they get the market purchasing shadowfall, or CoD and BF get moved forward for PS4 granting some kind of false exclusivity.

Wasn't EA the same pub that was calling the Move the Arc? Probably not the best company to know about release info.
Ever wondered why there is a giant A on the Move button of a Move controller? The Arc is the original name for Move, Microsoft just happened to own the trademark on that name.

I doubt this means anything. It's likely that they don't even know the release date, and assumed it would be after nov 22, hence launch title.

They could make sure the PS4 version was done first if they wanted it to be there at PS4 launch.

You folks have had a debate raging for a while now on this topic, but I figured I would throw in my perspective.

Doesn't it seem likely that Ubi would make sure the next-gen version of Watch_Dogs was done before the PS360WiiU versions? They've been demoing the high-end build for quite a while, and while I know that was probably largely a PC build most of the time and that the game was likely written with an engine that could be downscaled to the older hardware, I think it would make perfect sense for the current gen edition to come out later than the next-gen version. No doubt Ubi's games are going to require some serious optimizing on current gen consoles to even be functional, so releasing them a bit later would offer them extra time to do that, especially when they really want to be pushing the next gen version anyway.

I'm not convinced that the currently announced release dates or "launch day" statements are in any way meaningful, but I wouldn't take the more concrete dates for current gen systems as anything to go by. Just a thought.

Why does it mean after, could be on the 1st November....unless it's just a placeholder date.

I can't say as I remember a release date for a console being beginning or end of a month(unless that happened to be a Tuesday here in the US).

They could reveal it at any time, it doesn't have to be on an event.

What would they do...organize a separate event? Post it on Twitter/Facebook? Make a youtube video?

Or you could announce it at a giant conference, with tons of fans watching, where thousands of fans will be walking around and trying your new console.
