Basically what I get is that everyone who is hoping for a Kinectless SKU better hope sales are terrible? The stuff about localisation is just confirmation of what was already obvious.

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
A longer answer would be that Microsoft lost sight of what their console - a video game console - should be focused on and who it's for. It reminds me of when someone said something akin to "we make video games for people that don't play video games." There was a Penny Arcade strip about it, I think.
.

They haven't lost sight of what their console is, they have multiple factions inside MS fighting over a number of different specific visions for what they want it to be.

The result is a franken-console, designed by commitee to keep all camps somewhat (but not entirely) happy.

(Conjecture, BTW)

There is something sci-fi about CBOAT. Like a higher being, or an oracle, or an AI that has become self-aware; and it only speaks in riddles, and only when it choses to.

I love it :)

For the love of God Microsoft, don't even consider selling a kinectless SKU. At that point you might as well stop all Kinect development.

Why would they EVER have a Kinect-less SKU? It goes against everything they supposedly believe in. And to have one come out just months afterwords? Either pack in Kinect for life, or get rid of it before launch. These are the ONLY two scenarios that make any sense at all.

When I first saw that tweet pic I was like...

lmao, is that glitch real?

MS moneyhatting Japanese devs for exclusive games for the big-ass, expensive, delayed and aestheically un-appealing XB1 for the Japanese market is a two-way suicide pact.

They can't be this stupid..

I'm surprised so many people still don't know about cboat after all the time he's been here. Very good news for the PS4 launch.

It raises the cost of the console.

So they should not try to do anything for Japan?

I could see MS go to Suda again for something.

Wow, dropping Kinect. MSFT is just completely abandoning whatever stated vision they had for the console.

No more vision or leadership for them this gen...just doing what they can to get as many sales as possible and they'll try afresh next gen if they do next gen. Right now, however, they're just trying to prevent an absolute disaster with the X1 and I think they did.

It's the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter of video game consoles: jack of all trades, master of none.

Have you been around for the past 2 months? Another 180 wouldn't surprise me much at this point.

It can go either way I would think. He could also think it makes no sense to have a japanese centric style game looking at what the xbox is typically known for having.

Good point.

I'd grudgingly accept it (provided the Kinectless SKU appears). Shame to have great games hampered by inferior hardware. See Bayonetta 2.

Lol. Like the glorious PC games get hampered by inferior PS4180 hardware.

This argument, oh my god.

I agree that they'll taper off as the generation goes on, but the market is with handhelds and mobile :p

I agree, handheld/mobile seems to be pretty much the focus of some japanese devs. Hell, i'm pretty sure that's the best market vita has right now, being the dead platform it is. But some games will still be coming only to these new consoles.

Man, how can anyone buy the XB1 after seeing all the issues MS is going trough?, so close to launch and yet the innards of it aren't set in stone yet?, who knows how reliable that thing is going to be... after the RROD debacle you'd think people would be more cautious when approaching another device from them, this time the hurdles they are facing seem bigger and worse than on the 360's pre-launch era, and who can forget their humiliating, bi-polar reversals. (and it seems like they're still not done on the 180's just yet)

Read again ,it doesn't say SKU but SDK and that it is a common problem for consoles that wll be solved.

People keep talking about Revengeance 2, but if that was the game then the "moneyhat" would have been with Konami not Kamiya.

Crazy Buttocks dropping the bombs again. Loving it! The end of October release for the PS4 is might nice.

Also can we please just ignore Arthur Gies. Dude probably knows less about what's going on inside the industry than your 12 year old nephew.
Arthur Gies was claiming throughout 2011 and 2012 that the new Xbox was coming out in 2012, and kept doing so no matter how obvious it became that it wasn't going to happen. So yeah, that's how much of an "insider" Gies is.

Let's remember that they just had some leadership changes. It could be that the new guys at helm don't believe in Kinect as much as Don did and it's surely too late to change launch stuff now.

This is what happens when you co-opt a successful brand to try and chase a different audience. You risk alienating and losing the original market that built the brand in the first place.
