...hate me...
Since when has a iPad or iPhone been aimed at kids as a cheap portable gaming device.

The design is stupid. Plain stupid.
My little brother has an iPod touch.

The design is as stupid as a Vita or a PSP.

Or a Game Boy Advance.

Or a Game Boy Micro.

Game Boy Color.

Game Boy.

Game Gear.

I could go on...

I'm not against the concept of the 2DS (basically a cheaper-to-produce 3DS), but why would they eliminate the clamshell format? They took out all the portability out of the system, and looks ugly and uncomfortable as fuck.

Ok. I can't stop laughing at this. Seriously. This is a joke right?
Why does it look like that? How am I supposed to have that in my pocket and get mad street passes? It it meant for pure home use? Why does it still have 2 outer cameras if it can't display 3D?

Just... Why?

Can't stop laughing at the reactions ITT, reminds me of the "Wii" name announcement :D

This is clearly a cheap model for kids, and the "2DS" name will reassure parents who feared for their kids eyes with the 3D. It's the cheaper model of the 3DS family, so it will be ideal for a low budget familiy, or as a 2nd or 3rd 3DS in the house.

With all the Nintendo bashing the last years, we don't give enough credit to them, they know what they're doing (and they love to experiment too !)

It makes a lot more sense to me than the Dsi ever made !

The thing that I really can't fathom is how it can be as thick as a 3DS XL closed, what on earth is in there?

Also, they put in 3D cameras but skimped on hinge?

Not just a form factor like 3DS XL minus the 3D? Why, did that make too much sense? Nintendo has lost their minds.
An XL without 3D would make even less sense. It would be about five bucks cheaper to manufacture, so what´s the point? Want an XL without 3D? Get a regular XL and turn 3D off.

wtf

Nintendo can't get me more varied color options for their existing handhelds (3DSXL), but they have enough time and money to bring in new hardware?!

*sigh*

The XL owners getting all defensive lol

I'm buying the shit out of this. I'll finally be able to play for longer than 30 minutes without cramp.

You know, I'm just as confused as everyone in this thread, but I bet you these will sell like hotcakes at $130.

And the more I look at it the more it intrigues me. I definitely want to hold/play one. This sorta reminds me of when they first announced the DS in 2004. My first thought was, "WTF is this shit?"

I really don't know about that, it's pretty much a 3DS Lite. The 3DS fanbase is mostly in japan and everyone and they're mother already own either a 3DS or a 3DS XL

Late april fools joke?

Iwata needs to go. They're selling the Wii U at a loss and now they're releasing a 3DS...without its primary feature?

You know you can just turn it... um, I don't know... OFF

It doesn't even fold.

Cheaper to produce and sell at a lower price for kids?
This isn't rocket science

...What? Are the triggers still on the very top even though the rest of the controls are in the middle? My sense of scale is thrown off from the complete insanity of everything here, but using the DPad and the L button at the same time seems impossible for a child's hands.

The base of the triggers is right where it is on the normal 3DS. As long as the triggers respond well to pressure from the sides, it should work just fine.

Wait this is like an Onion article right?

There is a joke here and I'm missing it right?

Also they should have probably put in a second analog in this since the CPP obviously won't fit. GODDAMN IT'S FUCKING HIDEOUS

after thinking for a bit... as much as I hate the design...

its a smart move... cheaper, more kid friendly, affordable, durable, and releasing at the same time as X and Y... this is a good strategy... odd but good

I still don't like the idea of the name though

Looks like an early 80s LCD toy.

I... kinda wanna try it. This looks like a REALLY bad fan mockup, but also like strangely retro-futuristic.

The idea is good, as it is the price point.

But no clamshell design, or a good design for that matter? *groan*
Who designed this? The team that did the Wii mini?

I've never been happier to have sold off both my 3DSs. It's now readily apparent to me that Nintendo has no goddamn clue as to what the fuck they're doing anymore.
