Actually, I wonder if one could replace the bottom screen with the larger one from the 3DS XL to make it look like 1 screen...
The firmware is surely tuned for this big screen. It's not a PC. You can't mix and match hardware like that.

When do I get my 2DXL?
So my 6 yr old wants a 3DS, and this is targeted towards kids, but how in the holy hell is a kid supposed to hold that?
I honestly didn't expect a reference to that. Also "Stans" is from Eminem's song Stan.
Stalker + Fan = Stan.
Ugly indeed. Isn't this going to confuse people?

For reference:
You know what, as much as I detest that horrid design and think Nintendo would be better off using their dosh on something else, if that piece of shit can help handhelds regain control over the smartphones then I welcome the 2DS
For reference:
This seriously doesn't fold into a clamshell? What in the actual fuck?
It's releasing alongside Pokemon. Parents pick this up so their kids play Pokemon. A flat design encourages screen peeping. Other kids look on and wonder what the big deal is. Badabing Badaboom. Pokemon global sensation yet again.
I can fathom how you could think this. They're so high up and out of the way, and it looks like your fingers would hit them at an odd angle, too. Those shoulder buttons look pretty damn comfy.
LiIon batteries are expensive, and Nintendo doesn´t use the cheap LiPoly shit smartphone manufacturers use because their systems are supposed to last for more than two years.
No? X and Y are the first 3DS Pokemon games. It's quite likely they wouldn't have one at this point. And of course, for many X and Y may be the first Pokemon game or game they're interested in on the 3DS period. It just seems... incredibly unlikely that Nintendo has already fully captured that market and gotten everyone who's interested in it to buy a 3DS already. Basically, I know this can't be what you mean... but under this logic, even putting the 2DS aside, you're saying here that Pokemon would NOT be a system seller for the 3DS, because the people who want Pokemon already have one. Of course, that's obviously silly. So why would it be any different with the 2DS? The reasoning here is kinda just confusing to me.Depends on if kids ask for Pokemon... and if the kids ask for Pokemon, wouldn't they already have a 3DS? And if they do, wouldn't they just get those regular 3DS bundles?
That would be me. Sorry but like I have said before the price AND the fact that it takes the hinge problem away means I am way more comfortable getting the 2DS for my kids instead of a 3DS.
When they want to sell it cheaper, just like Nintendo's done since the NES.Its more last-gen than ever!
How can a console go backwards in functionality?
This looks bigger than the 3DS (not sure about the XL). How exactly are smaller children's hands supposed to use it and access the buttons while feeling comfortable in their hands?Just re-posting this as people don't get it.
For 7 year old and younger.
Also before saying it is ugly I would give it the benefit of the doubt in terms of ergonomics. I cannot play more than 1hour on my 3DSXL before feeling discomfort.
If you're like four or five years old, the age Nintendo is targeting with this thing? I severely doubt it--you'd love your parents instead. Kids that young don't have quite the obsession with electronics all needing to be sleek and black and minimalist and whatever that adults do.This thing looks hilarious. If I got one I'd start thinking my parents don't love me
I foresee some disappointed kids.
http://www.usgamer.net/articles/oh-so-thats-nintendos-next-moveCuriously, the 2DS is even more of a tablet-style system than it appears at first glance, as it actually features a single large screen in its center, not two separate ones. As one of their cost-cutting design measures, Nintendo reduced the number of screens in the system from two to one, and the appearance of separate screens is merely simulated by the way the case masks out the extraneous portions. This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it.
