Only 5 countries will have full Xbone voice commands at launch [Update in OP]

I'm glad they delayed the console in those other countries then. Wouldn't want to have the xbox one releasing with unsupported kinect voice features.

LOL!!! Then why not release in just those 5 countries then. Am I missing something here? I thought the previous excuse was translation issues for countries, now voice control only works for 5 anyways.

MS is dropping the ball on Kinect 2.0 for early adopters. The software announced is conceptually still on the level of Kinect 1.0 and now even voice is limited. I'm actually expecting a Kinect-less XBOX ONE SKU now.

They also need to announce the release date at PAX just to shut down the yield issue rumors.

UK has so many accents in it too that it's seems daft not to have Ireland.

I mean just in a few mile radius around me I have Sand Dancers, Mackems and Geordies and voice recognition is always fun.

Why can't game companies actually make sure it's software is done when they push it out the door? I hate that, same with the 3DS with no e-shop, same with Wii U with no TVii etc.

because MS would be insane to launch this console 2-4 months after the PS4.
They decided to launch this thing, at whatever cost, in November a long time ago.

probably means up to developers or it's supported by default unless devs block it from being used for their games.

I think it was pointed out before.

But yes - shock - MS seems to be allowing games to deactivate it also if their pubs are picky about copyright/spoilers etc.

That's my hope too.

I was just worried it was going to be like some kind of back of the gamebox feature next to the number of players and the games resolution.

Sorry but what is the reason the Xbone is delayed in parts of Europe again? I thought the reason is they needed time to make sure kinect works in those countries.

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Tier Alpha - Voice
Tier 1 - Launch
Tier 2 - Rest of Europe (i.e. Scandinavian countries) and some more South American Countries
Tier 3 - Asia
Tier Omega - Japan

It's pretty clear that the delay was decided based on the importance of the market. Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3. No matter how unclean those terms are and how regrettable it was that those terms escaped internal communications.

I can guarantee that a large chunk of the UK accents won't work, if it isn't Queen's English (you know the accent all Americans think we have!) it will struggle or not work at all.

Waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. Isn't it their official excuse that they reduced the countries Xbox One is going to launch for localizations reasons? In fact MS's representatives insist on it.

Where does Sony stand on this?

AFAIK Sony also allows devs to disable video recording for certain portions of a game.

Edit: I was correct, source: http://www.edge-online.com/features...huhei-yoshida-on-the-war-for-the-living-room/
“There will be parts of a game that the maker does not want people to be able to see,” he said. “For example, on Vita, developers can in certain scenes disable the feature that lets users take a screenshot, and (the Share function) will have a similar mechanism. The creator may not want to make video of the final boss sharable, for instance.”

I believe Sony also allows developers and/or publishers to block certain sections from being uploaded due to spoilers. Of course, whether they would bother outside of no block/100% total block is another question entirely.

I hope Albert comes to clarify these and the upload studio only for supported games.

Pretty sure the upload studio isn't a big deal, on PS4 it won't let you record certain cut scenes for spoilers I think (left up to the developers) I imagine it's the same deal on both, just poorly worded on this site.

But the languages is concerning to say the least.

Yay for Canada not being left out. Sucks for all those other countries though. You guys are missing out big time.

Maybe due to terrorism, Xbone voice commands can only work if your country has a permanent seat on the Security Council?

The whole argument around it being accent is silly.

Have you heard people from the north of England, or Wales, or Scotland?

I could get kinect to work about 1 out of 5 times trying and some words didnt seem to work at all. I dont hold out much hope in it being any better given they are backing away from voice commands in other launch nations. Thick north east accent but not exactly speaking broken english.

What I want to know if devs have to implement the DVR functions to some extent or if it ia fully native and they can block it.

So they were bullshitting us when they said voice command localization was the reason that only 13 countries are getting the XBO this year? I'M STUNNED!

Yup. Since there isn't a localisation for all of the launch countries, it's probably safe to call that excuse officially bullshit.

"Game DVR and Upload Studio also require Xbox Live Gold membership"
"Upload Studio available in supported games."

That makes zero sense. Again.

to be fair, native english speakers have trouble with those accents.

Oh yea, not really complaining about microsofts technical ability to implement this, just the short sighted approach of relying on it so heavily as a USP when it will not work for so many people.
