My biggest problem with the new model, BY FAR, is the fact that it is not a single block.
The screen looks like it can be popped out.
I could live with the LCD display if the new vita looked just like the previous one.

So nope. Iguess I have to buy a spare OLED vita. =(

THIS.

OG Vita's design is much better. I'm sure the LCD screen will be fine but after seeing the design. I'll be buying a spare just for the design and OLED.

Yeah ok. Keep ignoring the green guys.
The green tint in this photo is because of the angle. If you look at the screen from above its just fine. OLEDs have a problem with neutral colurs because they need to apply an extra layer over the LEDs to produce white colour. Anyway, the LCDs black levels are very good but there is always backlight enabled while OLED just turns out the diode that has no colour information -> black.

Just noticed that they changed the oval buttons to circles. That's a good improvement, it makes more sense overall (lots of circles in the vita os). The old Select and Start oval buttons were tiny and a little hard to hit.

Yeah, it is kind of odd. We only have two images. One shows them to be more or less the same and the other shows the LCD to be slightly washed out. Perhaps reposting the good shot would be advisable just to give this context:

Original vita is angled to light and 2000 set to brighter settings.

Even in a bad comparison, the LCD is nowhere near as bad as the drama queens are yelling about.

Of course its not but there is a difference because in technology, even it its just a small one. And its obvious that the OLED screen had to be removed if Sony cut the price and save some production costs. That screen was one the things why I wanted a VIta in the first place.

Hiro takes shitty pics. Dude should've just put them side by side up against a wall and not try and actually hold them both in his hands. Uncharted pic is ridiculous.

makes me want to buy a backup Vita just in case. I get that they wanted to make this thing cheaper, but they removed one of its best features.

Oh WOW! So we have two pictures and one shows the LCD to be as good (some say better), but you choose to assume the 2000 has the brightness turned up. Why don't you leave this thread now, you clearly have no intention of being objective.

Pretty sure its LCD not LED

LCD is a display technology (like CRT). LED is type of backlight (like CCFL).

This is display created with LED only

I compared vita/nexus4/NEC PW241 side by side. And vita was near identical to NEC with more vivid colors, compared to nexus4 that was little washed out. Have you even own vita?

Just looking at both side by side, I would bet the difference is barely noticeable.

But in motion? The OLED screen is going to have an advantage, UNLESS Sony put in a very high quality LCD, which might minize the difference.

I'm not waiting until I see it in person, gonna grab an original Vita for my birthday next month. Can't wait.

It's a beautiful piece of hardware. The only thing I would change is perhaps making it a little thinner and reducing the size of the touchpad on the back as I often tap it by mistake. If you have Plus or intend to go digital to any significant degree, you'll be wanting a 32GB card with that too.

Planning on getting the OLED one. Good thing is that people are selling theirs on ebay real cheap. I wonder if this is the last of OLED we'll ever see on vita?

The new Vita seems to be firmly attached to function as demo station. I guess anything besides holding them side by side would be complicated.

The oled model going to be discontinued?

Sony not mentioned this. But if new model has series 2000 and take to according that PS3 and psp has the same series progression (i.e. 1000/2000/3000/4000) and exotic versions has article before series (like psp street has Exxxx and go has Nxxxx) - yes it seems they are perished. They created cheaper version, to cover price drop I assume.

The Ragnorok pic made things look bad but the Uncharted pic and video of the new Vita don't make it seem too different.

The burn-in and color blobs on dark screens are still a concern for the OLED though.

well us in the west dont have to worry because of this

Sony has told IGN that it's currently “considering every opportunity”, for the PS Vita 2000, although has “nothing to announce for the [Sony Computer Entertainment America] territory.”

The border for the screen on the new model is fucking hideous. They really shouldn't have changed that.

I'm far more excited for the Vita TV though, as that's just what I want from the platform. I don't think 99% of people buying a new Vita will notice, or care, that the screen is different in quality of image.

I swear some of you guys make it sound like the difference is comparable to watching Alien on VHS compared to the blu-ray remaster.

I'll take the new version.

This. It's fine, really. I don't notice any blurring it ghosting on my LCD monitor so why would I see it here? I think everyone assumes it's going to be the same crappy screen that was in PSP 3000.

I don't think average smart phone Joe is going to buy one and then vomit when he turns it on. Such exaggeration in this thread.

Shit, if the OLED is discontinued the price of old ones will go up like the PS3 with backward compatibility. I was thinking about buying a Vita later this year or next year.
