“Ten years ago, you could argue that a console’s power was summed up in terms of a few of its specs, but Xbox One is designed as a powerful machine to deliver the best blockbuster games today and for the next decade.

Xbox One architecture is much more complex than what any single figure can convey. It was designed with balanced performance in mind, and we think the games we continue to show running on near-final hardware demonstrate that performance. In the end, we’ll let the consoles and their games speak for themselves.”

Near final hardware? At first I thought this was old news but having followed the source it is indeed to do with the recent EDGE article. In which case, how can it be 'near final hardware' if they've already started to ship the console? They posted pictures up to prove it didn't they?

They showed the games on near final HW at GC and co. and will show on Tgs and Eurogamer Expo.

This is getting ridiculous.

Not the thread I mean, just the constant back and forth between PR machines.

They mean they're demo'ing games on units that are near-final hardware at PAX, gamescom etc.

So yes they're boxing up final hardware but footage and hands-on are on the older, near-final units. Which are probably identical, except the overclocks hardware wise.

I kinda wish I could hear Major Nelsons thoughts on this, also CBOAT. I thought MN signed up to participate in these debates. Anyway, I'm getting a PS4 not only for the power, but because how MS has treated their consumers lately. Mostly before the 180.

Uhh... read the quote again? Think you might be interpreting that wrong.

we continue to show running on near-final hardware

Everything they've shown so far have been on Dev-Kits. Have we seen any new footage that wasn't from PAX recently, which was still running on old builds and dev-kits? They haven't shown any new game footage yet, and all old footage WAS on old builds.

Isn't this a bit like the Angry Joe comment? There's a hint of "you're too dumb to understand this stuff, just take our word for it."

I might be off base though, I just think this argument would be a lot more effective if they stopped talking stressing specs themselves.

The PR department should pat itself in the back. It's a pretty good response that neither admits or denies anything.
Which is as good as admitting it.

If it's false you nip it in the bud, and give your reasons why.

If it's true, but negative for you, you don't acknowledge it and try to divert the conversation onto other things, a la 'did you see Ryse on our near-final console'.

Translation: we are blackmailing and bribing publishers so they don't shame us by releasing better looking games on ps4..

LOL did we mention ten years ago we launched the console with the best specs?

edit: They're saying near final hardware because they can do day 1 firmware updates to up clocks.

Should have said we believe there is more to games than just graphics, and Kinect 2.0 provides an unparalleled gaming experience.

They didn't say the article was wrong. So gather from that what you will.

They do have a point that the games are more important than the graphics, though. And I'm sure Xbox One will have some great games.

i don't know about "pretty good," it's pretty standard to give a non-answer when you are in a position of weakness like MS is with respect to hardware power
