NextGen Wheels peripherals PS4 and Xbox One Thread: NeoGaf Wheel Club Updates in OP

So I just took that picture at my local Futureshop in Montréal.

Looks like they are still making the wheels if they updated the packaging to match the other "Logitech Gaming" products.

I know that the "wheel" departement has been closed at Logitech but I thought they also stopped manufacturing the wheels at the same time.

They wouldn't update the packaging on old wheels sitting in the warehouse.

Nice packaging.

No, I don't think they ever stopped making them. Plenty of people continue to buy them for GT and PC. Presumably they'll be supported in GT6, so that should keep it alive for another year. After that, who knows. Was "Playstation" removed from the box? I bet it was. edit: actually it matches GT6's color scheme, so maybe not.

Didn't notice for the Playstation but that color scheme is the new packaging used by all the Logitech Gaming products. Notice the G13 on the right.

Any chance the Original Microsoft racing wheel / peddles will work with the PS4? Sure I'm not the only person wondering this.

I sent @yosp a tweet asking about all this. I doubt I'll hear back but you never know.

I've asked him three times without reply.

Logitech said they can't comment at the moment.

Lets be honest, both Microsoft and Sony are lubing up the existing wheel owners to give them a right good seeing to.

Fuck both of them and their shitty next gen systems.

AFAIK, they won't stop making wheels or gaming-related peripherals. On the contrary, they affirmed that those products are an important part of their business. What they did abandon is console-related peripherals. Since the wheels also work on PCs, they are likely here to stay.

I just hope that they will at least provide drivers for the PS4. I don't think that they will support the XBO.

On Facebook:

Q: Will the Driveclub T-80 wheel be available in the US? Thanks.

Thrustmaster: Hi, for the moment it is not available in the US, but if it changes, we will communicate on Facebook. Regards

So the one wheel we know will work with the PS4 isn't coming to the US or they're not confirming it for some strange reason.

Huh, well that's weird...

I see they also announced a new wheel for the PS3/PC today. It's the same thing as the T-80 only with a Ferrari license, and no PS-specific buttons. Cheaper too at $70usd.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this...

Well...it's no logitech (I doubt Fanatec will support it directly but if the console supports the G25/27 then the Fanatec should work) but at least there's movement so there's hope.

God damn that thing is over $500! Yikes.

Given the two choices I'd probably go with the T80, no force feedback is a serious bummer though.

It's also the high end official wheel for GT, which gives me hope that they're going to get things worked out with Logitech. Most people own the DFGT or G25/7.

I hope the Driving Force GT is supported. I bought it fro GT5 and loved using it. Soooo much better than using a controller. Would be nice if it worked for DC, but the handling looks a little arcady, so I might not need/want to use a wheel.

The T500RS will work with PS4 and DRIVECLUB.

Rushy confirms here http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?/topic/268931-driveclub/page-23#entry9487355

Huge news indeed.

Pretty much proves Thrustmaster has everyone gagged. Now pray that this bullshit is limited to pre-release. Your game/platform will be rightfully stoned by angry wheel users if you have the audacity to artificially lock people out at the behest of a hardware partner.

That's getting ahead of myself, sorry!

I'm happy as hell there are no fundamental changes preventing wheels from being forward compatible with the PS4. Big, big news. Hopefully there's a happy ending for the XO as well.

Same here, completely changed the game experience.

DC's handling is pretty good - when played the demo at EGExpo the rwd I was driving would definitely have been easier to drie with pedals & wheel instead of a stick.

We're coming up on a month out with only two compatible wheels for the PS4? One of which isn't made for the PS4 and is $500, and the other one isn't even coming out in the US. What the hell is going on over at Sony?

Their pulse headset won't work day one, so I guess they are focusing on other things for launch.

On the positive side, it means they can update USB drivers after launch (needed for pulse headsets to work), so they could update to support logitech wheels.....maybe?

Yeah anything is possible post launch. I just wouldn't expect support on launch day.

I gotta say, I don't necessarly mind that much. Even if I have a Fanatec CSR wheel, Driveclub is probably more a gamepad game anyway.

I really hope my G27 still works with PS4, that will be a pain in the ass to buy a new wheel for GT7 with my G27 still working like a charm.

I definitely feel for the Forza / XB1 crowd. I would be pissed as hell if I had Forza and an XB1 pre bought for day one and still no clue if you can play the game with the wheel(s) you own.

I hope Logitech releases a new wheel. Come on G29!

Edit: Good idea making the thread Amar. Not everyone on GAF holds the ignorant and misguided Gerstmann position.

Yep, Rushy has even said that it's just an issue of updating the drivers. But the problem is that Logitech doesn't work on consoles anymore. So it makes that situation even more complicated.

Currently rocking the GT3RS + Clubsport pedals and have been pretty happy with them. I do hope it ends up being fully supported on the PS4. Been itching to upgrade to the CSR Elite but have been holding off due to questionable next gen compatibility.

Yeah, the silence regarding Fanatec and XB1 is fucking absurd!
What's with all the secrecy?
Just tell us already you sons o beeches!!

It must be Friday since there's a new TM video :)

We suspected the wheel would be removable, but it's nice to have confirmation. Now show me usb output, and my money is yours. Exclude it and I swear I'll flip the nearest magazine rack ;)

Wouldn't be shocked if it didn't have one right now, really disappointed though.

Fanatec spoiled me this gen, I just want one decent quality wheel for everything.

Any chance Fanatec could release their own drivers for PS4 instead of leaching off Logitech again?

No Logitech still means no Fanatec right?

This is very possible and likely the situation. Based on how long it takes fanatec to get drivers updates out I'm assuming their software team is very small. My guess is we won't see support until about one year after the the new consols launch.

Unfortunately, that's what I'm expecting as well. I couldn't be any more disinterested in a product like that.

yeah I was thinking back to what Thomas said about his vision, I suspect Thrustmaster would be easier to bend than Fanatec when it comes to locking down compatibility, especially as TM already have a PS4/PC solution in the T500.

Could be wrong of course, should the TM be XID plus USB/HID it'd only be a driver away from PS4 too. That's some wishful thinking.

I just hope Thomas was only being diplomatic by not singling out Microsoft as being the problem. The Sony situation, while from a technical standpoint is much better off, there's still a lot of fuzziness to that story. If it were just drivers, he would have said so.

Anyway, you can surely bet somebody will rip open that new TM wheel, try and find a usb header, and mod some T500 drivers for it. I'd have to make a moral decision at that point!

Great thread!

The lack of info from Microsoft and Sony is beyond stupid... and not supporting last gen's peripherals is beyond defensible.

It's one thing to say "we won't have BC because the architecture is too different", I hate it but I can understand it. But saying "we won't support last gen's USB peripherals" makes no sense and smacks of money grubbing.

Yet another reason I won't be buying either consoles at launch, or investing in as much content as I did with the PS3 and 360.

So let me get this straight. My Logitech G25 which uses a USB cord (as well as my MadCatz fight stick for that matter) works on my PC and my PS3 but Sony won't say yet whether it will work on the PS4 and there's a real chance it might never support force feedback or rumble on the new console. Do I have that right?

So let this be clear.

Not even 1 wheel for next gen has force feedback ?
If yes then what is the point of wheel without FF ? It will be like playing on pad without sticks.

Situation here is insane.

No wonder GT6 is on PS3. They probably wait for proper wheel support for PS4

That's pretty much spot on. Rage, right?

No, from what the Evo guy said it's down to drivers, if Logitech doesn't submit one it won't be compatible.

Wait, so the ball is in Logitech's court?

I don't know for certain but it appears to be.

That is my interpretation as well. I just hope that Logitech will provide drivers since they are still manufacturing the wheel, and just for the sake of their reputation. It can't be that expensive to make those drivers.

What's annoying is that I love my fanatec wheels because I can configure them perfectly to me..

When I'm doing competitions, I tend to run 380-450 degrees of steering, and even 270 or less for F1 games..
Not to mention 1 wheel for all platforms, and can even dial in the same linearity accross games, making it great for jumping from PC to PS3 to XB1..

I want this kind of freedom next gen.. and I get the feeling I am SOL.

I've given my XB1 pre-order away due to lack of wheel support and general MS attitude, and to be honest I may ditch my PS4 pre-order and just go PC only.. pCARs / Assetto Corsa and iRacing are pretty much all I'll need for a while!

I feel the same, perfectly good wheel and only the PC to play it on.

PC sims are awesome but there's nothing really like GT/Forza. I like career modes, simplicity and shitty slow cars.

So I know we're mostly nagging Rushy about this, but should we be hitting up @amboyes and @yosp as well for the PS4 compatibility? Sure, it's in Logitech's/Fanatec's court... but it's not like they haven't been forward in proactively doing stuff for the console.

does Logitech have twitter...their top employees? have gamers been blowing up their twitter accounts/facebook accounts/etc?
