Adam Boyes Confirms: Call of Duty: Ghosts is Native 1080p on PS4

You had cases of EA games running in 30 FPS to meet the PS3 launch (even though they were running in 60 FPS on the 360), but the versions after were pretty much the same (both running in 60 FPS).

Interested in seeing how the second batch of 3rd party multiplatform franchises will be on the Xbox One -- devs should get more familiarized with the system by then but we'll see.

The big difference is that the PS3/360 were much more similar in overall power than the PS4/XB1.

I'd really like to know what the BF4 resolution is on both consoles. Sucks that we have to wait until after the fact apparently. What do you all think will happen if Ghosts stays 720p (i'm assuming it is currently) and BF also ends up being a 720p VS 1080p situation?

It's already confirmed BF4 runs at 720p on the XB1. It's safe to assume the PS4 version is going to be something higher than 720p.

At the end of the day the only people who are going to really care about this stuff are people on this forum. Your average Joe going to buy a console will probably never hear most of this, or even care if they did hear it.

If people hear that PS4 is giving a better picture for cheaper surely they will care? This isn't going to be limited to this forum, wouldn't the gaming media start to talk about this? Then it'll be talked about across Youtube and Twitter. Word will get to the uninformed masses eventually, just like the pre-order figures show they got to them with the initial E3 madness.

I don't think it has been.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if and when it eventually is.

I could have sworn a member of the BF4 development team said on Twitter the XB1 version is 720p, and the PS4 version is "running at a higher resolution in our dev environment, but final numbers have not been determined". That was a few weeks ago if I recall correctly.

Also, I was at an XB1 event last weekend and they had BF4 running on XB1s, and it looked 720p to me.

The $100 price advantage if far more important than the resolutions games run at natively.

They said that they are both running at 720p at all the trade shows but that they were targeting higher for final release. They did say that the PS4 dev environment already had it running higher than 720p.

Oh most definitely. But I can't help but think that in this age of social media word is going to go from the informed places like NeoGAF and end up reaching the uninformed average joe.

I agree with this. When I saw it I also thought it looked 720p. It just lacked that cripsness 1080p offers. To be fair, though that BF4 build is from E3 (as was everything else), which certainly makes it older than that.

I'm not saying we're going to see 1080p, but just wanting to bring up the point about everything at the X1 event being really old builds.

Regarding the PS4, repi i.e. Johan Andersson from DICE corrected someone who said the PS4 version is 720p. It was at the time at a higher resolution internally, with no final resolution determined.

Later a story came out about an EA rep at a tradeshow saying the XB1 version was 720p, iirc. But I don't know why anyone ever bothers with these reps considering how often they're wrong.

But again, it won't surprise me at all if it is 720p.

A little bit OT but touches upon what's been said here about the "average joe". I work in a company with predominately software developers, of which many are gamers (we don't do games, but middleware stuff). We even had a "pro" BF team back in the day.

Anyway, the last few days, I've been talking with quite a few of them and not a single one knew there was a performance difference between the PS4 and the Xbone. None of them.

They are surprised when I explain the difference and refer to the recent controversies on resolution. This is not very scientific, but as long as the general press is not reporting on the differences (and they won't until launch), there is no reason for MS or Activision to do so either. Obviously, once the word spreads a bit further, people might be more enlightened, but I don't think it will influence sales of the Xbone _significantly_, at least not short term.

there are quite a few things that would surprise me in ragard to that tbh.

1. system parity, both 1080p
2. xbone version looking/performing better then PS4
3. either system being 1080p at all.

the least surpising would be PS4 looks or performs better then xbone,i'm kinda expecting that at this point. if it's one of those 3 though, then hell, consider me surprised.

If average Joe asks gamer forum goer friend and they say x console is "better" without going into pixel count, resolutions an' shit, they will end up indirectly caring ignorantly.

The only thing that would really surprise me is if the XB1 version looks noticeably better.

The shitstorm that would ensue would be a glory to behold.

It would be pretty cringeworthy if Battlefield 4 ends up running higher rez than COD, people will use it as a stick to beat the Xbox One with but i think people should be beating Infinity Ward more to be honest, the game looks terrible.

Catch 22 honestly

If it can do 1080p 60 fps yada yada then it's no big deal because it's just COD and not very demanding in the eyes of the interwebz

If it can't do 1080p 60 fps... red alert. DOOMSDAY ya'll

Basic level competency and shock when a lack of competency is shown is now a catch 22?

I don't know what the Xbox One resolution of BF4 is... but if it isn't 1080p it's not going to be the same as the ps4 version - or so I hear.
Oh, I was really expecting it to be the first confirmed sub-native 1080p game on the PS4 (well, there's The Order, but it's still mapping pixel to pixel).

I guess the next most like is Deep Down, since some native 720p media has been released for it iirc.

I doubt the press will say anything, they have been silent so far. As a matter of fact most of them have said it doesn't matter. So of course they are ignoring their jobs and not reporting anything. It is quite typical for the press to deem what is important and what isn't. Though their jobs are slowly losing relevance compared to social media and youtube. If you cannot do your job correctly then you deserve to lose relevance.

I think the price advantage will be big as well, but if people hear that the cheaper console is more powerful then the more expensive weaker console then that could be a blow to MS as well. The revolution argument isn't what is important it is the implications of that argument that are.
