Yeah, I'm looking and looking before I make any bold claims (I'm positively hopeless with Twitter, sometimes even pressing "All" doesn't seem to show all tweets), but it does seem like he deleted them.

Holy shit, this guy probably broke an NDA with Sony to give information to Microsoft. Unbelievable.

Please tell me someone has a screen capture somewhere.

Yeah its getting annoying. GAF isn't pro Sony or pro Xbox. It's pro whatever is better for gaming.
GAF is pro Sony the same way GAF is pro evolution.

"Fuck GAF, all those genetics-citing, fossil evidence-referencing douche bags. Why can't the reach the wrong conclusion based on all evidence presented?!"

Thanks!

Well if thats the case he's a goddamn idiot because Sony's legal department will bankrupt his ass and he will be blacklisted from the games industry for the rest of his life.

I see no reason why he would delete it if there was nothing wrong with what he did. We now know this was about Sony -- and we know that Albert asked for specific information that Arthur Gies only revealed through DM or email, and now he has deleted the evidence.

Unless evidence to the contrary is shown, this is simply unbelievable.

so can someone fill me in here?

CBOAT said it was something else wrong with Xboned and then there was some former IGN editor who said something bad about xboned.

these were in the first post earlier in this thread..but are no gone.

someone fill me in please.

The more that GAF and Reddit and other gaming communities produce their own news, videos, reviews, impressions, etc... the more the gaming press loses its mind.

I feel like there is an outright disdain for GAF, in particular, right now from the press. We get assholes like me who can just say stuff with NDAs. We get OT's with more info about a game than any preview could ever hope to attempt. We get breaking news here first, and then on a site, and if their lucky the site will be linked in a new thread so we will click on their site.

I don't just mean this as a gaf circle jerk. This is also true of reddit. I don't go to gamefaqs but I assume it's true there. I also assume it's true of 4chan. There's probably more places.

In the last several months it feels like the press, in the US especially, have become contrarian to what sites like this think. The PS4 looks good... don't preorder yet! There may be some big surprise! You think that Mass Effect 3 is a piece of shit? GotY!

I'm probably simplifying it a bit but am I alone in feeling this tug of war going on? I feel like each weekend the big podcasts are arguing against whatever the big thing happens on sites like this or reddit or whatever feel. If they agree with us they are useless. If they argue they at least have an opposing viewpoint... but it often is nonsensical.

At the same time, #PS4NoDRM wouldn't have had the reach it did without the press atleast reporting about it. Also... I'm just some jerk on the internet talking about CoD being 720p on the Xbox One yet it's become a larger story because every podcast this weekend is talking about it. So while we may be a human centipede of gaming news... the press it part of the shit eating.

A shake up is what this industry needs. Keep doing what you do

And I really hope you didn't cancel your Xbox One order, please be a joke.

Why? It honestly seems like the smart thing to do. Think about it. All this news suddenly cropping up that the more expensive console is actually getting the lower quality version of major game titles. And several reliable insiders hinting towards technical issues cropping up in what has been repeatedly confirmed to be a product that is being rushed to the market by a company that was caught off guard by a more-prepared competitor. A competitor who is offering a superior piece of hardware for $100 less.

He's being a smart consumer by cancelling that preorder. Why would you knowingly pay more for an inferior experience?

You're not alone in your thoughts because for one I share them...it's the same as newspapers are struggling to remain relevant in the internet age...we find out news through twitter faster than any newspaper can get us information....

Same issue at play with sites like IGN (only using them because they are probably the biggest site)...we have our insiders...that either go to great lengths to remain anonymous, or like yourself that have your own sources so you're not bound by an NDA....

I'm sure the IGN guys have plenty of sources,,,and hear things but they simply CANNOT report things because they risk destroying their relationships with business partners...so yes I think there is some disdain for a place like this from the "official" channels...

If all you're interested in is the scoop, yes you can't complete. But there's more to getting the 'story' than just getting it first. Strong journalism that is thoughtful, thorough and precise still has a place in this digital world and holds great value. Perhaps with all the noise (Thanks Twitter) It's even more important. Will it continue to make money?...That's another story. But we'll miss it when it's gone. That's for sure.

The problem for videogame journalism is that it's primarily concerned with 'criticism'. Reviews are King. Any serious journalism in the industry takes a back seat to getting access to the product early and not stepping on any toes so you can get invited to the party early the next time.

Anyone who cancels their preorder can easily purchase the console at a later date once it's clear all the launch jankiness has been cleared up and MS releases the inevitable Kinect-less SKU at a more competitive price point.

because he was breaking an NDA privately to a direct competitor?

And it took him all of two minutes after being asked to do it.

Of course, the alternative explanation is that there simply isn't an NDA at all.
But then why was everyone saying they couldn't just come out and say what the hell they were tweeting about?

Well everyone what went down there is the carrer equivalent of a GAF account suicide thread

This. Everytime I see a thread linking to an article on Kotaku/IGN/Polygon - you name it, it's almost always an opinion piece and speculation that I cannot get behind. Similarly, reviews are more often than not a great way for me to roll my eyes because it seems that everything is awesome - and if not, it's fucking terrible. The middle ground is gone.

More importantly - when I see shit on twitter about 'GAF being GAF' etc. I just ponder what perspective these people are looking from. Certainly, GAF isn't a hivemind - and I'd be hesitant to group us altogether (there are some fucking crazies in here). But as an overall community I'd like to think we're rational, pro-consumer and if nothing else, passionate. So comments on twitter/reddit etc. that seem to call us out for over-reacting or blowing up over rumours... well, I just don't understand it. Someone needs to rile up and call these places out for their bullshit, or incorrect information - and also ask some of the critical questions.

The place would admittedly be far worse off if it wasn't for some of the journalist, developer, insider, platform-holder (Nelson etc.) interaction we get - but I am definitely getting a vibe that GAF as an entity is being frowned at/upon from a variety of sources.

Late to the thread too. But after that i think Adam Sessler got touchy and shit on twitter and everybody started speculating from there. THen Marcus Beer said it was all about PS4. Gertsmann appeared not to even give half a fuck. The thread was already derailed from COD being 720p on one long before that.. Thats the best that i could remember lol

Sony already confirmed during their TGS keynote that HDCP protection will be removed shortly after the console's release, or rather that video capture devices will be enabled in a firmware update shortly following the consoles release.

And as for Dent, it's really hard to take anything he says seriously...

If he really thought about then I would agree with you, but he seems to like Xbox One exclusives and he only canceled it because of CoD even though he didn't pre-order it.

Because he can't undo what he did. He canceled the pre-order because he was pissed that CoD is 720p, I'm sure he will regret his decision later and there will nothing he can do, he didn't even pre-order CoD.

If he really regrets it he can just go to a store and buy one. I doubt they'll be hard to find for THAT long after launch.

What happened is there was one huge megaton earlier today which is Xbone version of COD and BF are being 720p.

Cboat appeared and said that Xbone has major problems beyond COD stuff, and people would find out at launch.

later started the Sessler drama about Sony not allowing them to review games early (some meaningless shit)

That's it :)

I don't think it was solely that. Microsoft have been very fucking evasive the last week or two.

Ah. If he's a fan of the exclusives he can still easily pick up the console after some post launch impressions have further elucidated the reliability of the hardware. I know if I had the machine preordered and then read all the stuff about MS originally planning to release in 2014 and being caught off guard and having to rush to get the DRM fixed and get everything ready for launch, plus all the reports of massive OS instability, I'd be a bit nervous too. RRoD is still fresh in my mind.

I would imagine that someone at Sony would be VERY interested to know the contents of conversation between Misters Gies and Panello...

agree 100% just pointing out that I feel there is certainly going to be some animosity towards a place like GAF...

You think I couldn't throw that together with MS word and Photoshop?

It truly pisses me off that Cboat and other "journalists" knowing the issues are not spilling it. Hopefully if these journalists cant do their job correctly I hope that the likes of IGN, gamespot etc etc all go bankrupt.

Hopefully someone with balls leaks it.

Can someone point me to the post that 'confirmed' BF4 is 900p for the PS3?

As far as I know that has not been confirmed.

And somebody should tweet that screencap to one of the Sony heads, if Geese openly violated an NDA on Twitter it's gonna be like Adam Orth v2.0.
