DF/JF: Battlefield 4 PS4 vs XB1 videos/screens (900p PS4, 720p XB1)

In some scenes I find the X1 version better, in others I find the PS4 version better. There's definitely more aliasing in X1 version, it's a little too dark but it's surprisingly crisper too. PS4 version is more polished but it looks like there's a kind of filter.

When I saw different pictures without knowing which on was the X1 version and the PS4, I first thought the PS4 version was the X1 version because it looks cleaner. Then I noticed the alisasing on others pictures.

I must confess that I was a bit worried with all those bad rumeurs, but when I think that there were problems with devs tools and esram, I'm very reassured.

People actually like that ultra-sharp look? I guess I should know that some people do from all of those sharpened-to-shit Skyrim ENB screenshots in the high-res PC screenshots thread.

Eek.

I don't know what the Xbone is doing to the textures, but it really doesn't look all that good. It's like contrast and sharpening post-process filters are getting applied or something.

Is the soft look intentional? I assume that the pc version is the ideal version, right? The PS4 version looks much closer to pc than the Xbox One. I can understand how some will prefer the sharper image in the Xbox version, but you guys are paying dearly for it.

Protip: The Xbox One version of the game is intentionally botching accurate colors and image reproduction in favor of over sharpening and oversaturation.

It's actually a really brilliant move on MS's part, as it is obvious in this thread that people fall for the over sharpening and oversaturation. If people want that look on the PS4 version, they can use their TV settings.

Curious as to why settings weren't corrected on both sides to create a parity between lighting?

Seems as though the PS4 version is light and the XONE version is dark.

Both look good. Don't really care. Think X1 looks slightly better.

Everyone looking for a megaton that isn't there.

what in the fuck is wrong with the gamma on the XBO videos?

I guess they think high contrast with crushed blacks will convince people its a better looking image?

It's a clear case of people not really knowing what makes for something looking good graphically. They see what appears to be sharper textures and more saturation but are ignoring the fact that some textures are downright different and the crushed blacks make colors stand out more. Sadly enough, "the xbone version looks better" will be echoed by the morons who just don't know better.
Wow settle down. In that video my eyes were pleased by what was going on more on the right than the left. Guess I'm a moron. This is a YouTube video so I'll wait to see the game with my own eyes and hear more impressions but by that video XBone order not cancelled (yet). Surprising.

The X1 version looks a bit better to me, honestly. Whatever the system is doing with its upscaler, it is working for me. Just looks like a slightly better image quality.

The PS4 does handle the "jaggies" better, though, definitely. There are far fewer spots where they are evident on the PS4 version.

I realize there could be capture problems and such. All in all, though, I'd say there isn't a clear victory for either side here to the average consumer. (which is probably still a victory for Sony, honestly, since they're at the lower price). Both versions look good if you don't compare them to the PC version too closely.

Looks pretty similar with some places looking better for the PS4. Obviously the better resolution will end up favoring the PS4 version all in all, so that's the version to get if you don't have a powerful PC.

Even Gies knows what's up. Stop embarrassing yourself, Kevin. Seriously.

That dude is an idiot haha..

Sad that the PS4 couldn't hit 1080p. It wins on a seemingly higher average frame rate (at a higher res no less), but if you can ignore the Xbox One's sub pixel issues that black crushing contrastiness can look pretty dramatic. Still, I'd prefer actually seeing the details and the PS4 does look like a more faithful reproduction of those PC screen caps.

Despite pushing ~50% more pixels, that ~40% difference in frame-rate as well;

CANT EVEN SEE THE FUCKING GUN HERE.

Bwhahahahahahahaha!!! The Xbone version actually looks noticeably better (sharper) when comparing the screenshots to me.

Not that I care at this nonsense anymore, but I find that absolutely hilarious with all the previous threads discussing resolutions.

lol oh man all this talk about the xbone version being much weaker and it ends up looking better in a lot of the shots.

Xbox One's scaler is doing something with the colors. I don't think there's any difference in terms of texture because the PS4 and PC version look very similar while the Xbox One looks dark as fuck.

PS4 is blurry because of the capture equipment, this is why the text show a pretty big gap vs the visuals

Here's what Eurogamer stated.

Curiously, the top end is also affected, causing the image to appear distinctly washed out, as if set to limited range. This is particularly evident on PS4, which is kept free of a comparable black push to Microsoft's platform to compensate. Right now there's every possibility that it could be a capture situation, but it is worth noting that we saw no such issue on our PC captures and after returning to base, the same equipment produced a perfectly balanced picture on our PlayStation 3.

I am confused, I thought the PS4 was 50% stronger? how is this even possible?? I'm seriously disap-fucking-pointed. I feel deflated by how bad the PS4 version looks in comparison. It's like PS3vs360 version washed look again.

It is, the damn thing is pushing 50% more pixels and maintaining higher fps !!....oh you are trolling...nvm

Yes, the Xbox One dips pretty heavily at times (so does PS4) but it's hard to believe it still dips LOWER than PS4 does in most cases despite its lower resolution.

So, aside from all those Mr.NumbersAreMoreImportant, the results are debatable, huh?

Interesting how things go on practice.

Yea...PC's gonna rock this game.

As for consoles, both look similar. Frankly, if I was playing a fast paced action/shooter game like BF4 I doubt I would notice the minor differences we see in still images.

I'm getting the PS4 and will likely never get an XB1, but all this controversy feels pretty silly to me. I just don't notice or value this stuff enough to care.

Just show me a game that has good textures to begin with (Witcher 3) as a comparison. The game looks bad on either system, but I'd pick the PS4 first.

You can get that "vibrant" look on ps3 now, set your color space to Full Range on your ps3 and your tv's hdmi level to dark.

Enjoy not being able to see any detail in dark environments though XO. I am using Full Range and Normal HDMI level for a nice middleground, i miss the fake "vibrant" look but i enjoy seeing exits in caves.
