The IGN video should be linked in the OP

"However, I can give you some impressions based on my time with the PlayStation 4 multiplayer and single-player. Purely from a gameplay perspective, I can say with confidence that Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4 and PC are equally excellent. The two are visually comparable, with minor detail differences if you’re really trying to pick it apart. The single-player and multiplayer look beautiful, and DualShock 4 is the best thing to happen to PlayStation in terms of first-person shooters. The analog sticks give you much more room for precise movements than the PS3's DualShock 3, whose sticks I've always felt are a bit clumsy. With aim/fire moved back to the redesigned L2/R2, you’re now pulling a trigger rather than pushing a button. It just feels more natural than hooking my index fingers over the PS3 controller’s bumpers. I’ll probably use this controller to play PC games for the foreseeable future.

Playing with 64 players on consoles is something else. I’m used to that on PC, especially with Battlefield, but I prefer playing on a couch, on PSN or Xbox Live, and using a game pad. Battlefield 4 on PS4 really is the best of those worlds. The scale of the PlayStation 3 version’s maps is fine – as I mention in the review, they sacrifice space and scale without significantly damaging the gameplay – but the addition of 40 more players, additional control points, and vehicles really shows you what you’ve been missing if you’ve been playing Battlefield on consoles all these years."

wow, interesting!

I'm confused. Why is the above gif the complete opposite of this gif in the original post?

The second gif shows what can be achieved by pumping up the sharpening, contrast and saturation settings on your TV. Essentially, the Bone version does all of this before sending the signal to your TV (or DF did, I'm not clear on that yet), but the same identical effect can be achieved on your TV settings. What the poster is trying to show is that there are more details in the PS4 version.

Fxaa or the post processing aa in frost bite blurs out the image big time. Game looks sharp without it. I personally loved the blurry look.

Sitting back ps4 fans should be ok. But with 2xmsaa the game looks like cg imo.

Holy shit. Wtf is happening here? Have people actually been altering the PS4 version of the gif?

Yes, the PS4 version has been altered to show how you can make it look with the same sharp and oversaturated TV settings.

Because the person who made the gif, used sharpening on the PS4 picture, to showcase the difference between using it and not using it.

That is my understanding, the Xbox One picture is not messed around with in either the gif or the picture you linked

The purpose (as i understand it) is to show what sharpening can do, which is really what DF footage has essentially been about and why people are confused

So he only sharpened one image and not both of them? Doesn't that come off as completely disingenuous?

You can make the PS4 version look as sharp on your TV, its just post processing everyone can apply himself:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=87940929&postcount=4020

So they captured them wrong, ie. they post-processed the X1 version? The field/view gif PS4 looks much better.

Because it looks like there is a sharpening filter applied to the Bone versions of the game either as standard on all output or by DF in post. The same effect can be achieved by setting your TV for higher sharpening.

Really? What the hell

So after all this pages, the tl;dr could be that in every comparison video/shots, PS4 version is the one to put my money but DF comparison video?

Oh digital foundry, you MS fanboys, never change lol.

You made a thread regarding what one can do with sharpening and contrast.

The gif is there to show you what you can do with the PS4 version when you meddle with sharpening and contrast.

it did occur to me that if these are the visuals they can manage when games are rushed out for launch then buyers of neither need to worry.

going to be a good gen.

Digital Foundry did just that. And you never called them out on it.

The gif is essentially Digital Foundry but flipped on it side, to use sharpening and contrast on the PS4 version and not Xbone version. While the DF comparison is the opposite

Are you referring to the 900p thread that was locked a few weeks ago? I'm not sure what other thread I made about sharpening and contrast.

Don't you think it's a pointless comparison if you don't sharpen both? At least that way you can see how they both look when they're sharpened.

Even in the DF footage the PS4 consistently outperformed the Xbox One while pushing 50% more pixels with added affects not even available on the Xbox One.

I really hope we don't start seeing devs pump up contrast and sharpness everywhere on PS4 to 'compete' with the XO's tinkering (if indeed it is the system doing it).

There's a reason I keep sharpness turned off on my TV, and why I put contrast where it should be.

But yeah, everyone saying 'they look almost the same!' or 'the PS4 one looks worse to me' need to watch the multiplayer footage on IGN. because... eeeegads.

So what I can gather from seeing the OP and parts of this thread is that:

-The Xbox One has sharper looking textures in single player

Is this right?

And considering a lot of people are pointing it out, how bad have DF actually screwed up with their capture? Are the comparisons from other sites better?

This is wrong, as pointed out in the thread the PS4 textures are ever so slightly better.

Holy shit you are incredible. Have you read this thread at all? The whole DF stuff for the Xbox One was altered.

Altered is the wrong word. Improperly captured would be better. The was no intent on DF part.

No, the same Xbone sharpness/ PS4 blurriness is also evident in the Video Gamer comparisons. It's not just DF.

can someone who understand german tell us which pc configuration was used ?

Very expensive PC, high end Radeon Graphics card. Almost the same graphically. They estimate that BF4 might even look worse on a sub 1000€ pc than on ps4.

Both sub 1080p wtf.
this is the biggest thing I've taken away? KZ is doing it, and looks really heavy on effects as well. Wasup Dice? Hopefully this is just launch rush and 3rd parties will get a better handle on the consoles. 900p is nothing to brag about IMO...

also, why did the initial videos favor the X1? Not calling conspiracy theory but it's clear the X1 one was altered versus the PS4, now you can see the difference clearly? WHo's responsible for this?

Is COD 1080p for both platforms?

Well, that's quite the upscaling shitjob on the PS4 version. Xbone looks sharper in several of those pictures despite the 50% loss of resolution. It's like the dark days of QAA on the PS3. :p Besides performance they seem to be the same in terms of everything else.

You can really see the effect of upscaled 720P in the HUD on the Xbone version. It looks so muddy and blurry.

Other then that, it's hard to see specifics in the picture; The ps4 image is just allround nicer, crisper, better defined, richer or whatever you want to call it. Let's call it better.

Shit, this is a cross gen port, and xBone is already suffering, is it because of the rush to launch on time ? Then why does the ps4 version look so much better ?

It is pretty much confirmed that ps4 will be the place to go for better multiplats. A complete switch from last gen. As a ps4 gamer, this makes me happy. Best third party versions, plus Sonys first party. Great.

Goddamnit. The bone has an EVEN WORSE gamma curve problem. What the hell, that black crush is insane. If you shift the settings around you'll probably just end up crushing the whites. Gross.

Agreed. PS4 version only looks "washed out" because the Xbone is reproducing gamma incorrectly. Note how there is less detail in the darker parts of images but you can see that detail in the PS4 version.

No matter how "vibrant" you think it ends up looking, crushed blacks are bad, period.

Altered is the wrong word. Improperly captured would be better. The was no intent on DF part.

For that we have only their word. Until they redo the test after release day and reconfigure everything I'm tending towards clickbait and trying to even out any gaps. Leadbetter has shown form in the past as has DF.

LMAO :D at least more people will know now.

Also, to those complaining about AO, Activision has already confirmed that XB1 version will have it in the final retail release.

DICE, but wouldn't that... do something to the Xbox One version? I mean, sure, it'll give it shadows, but... You can't add things and not take things away.

Watched ign video. The resolution is obviosly going to be more noticeable when I'm playing the actual game but the Xbox one version is very nice compared to the ps4. Unless you are really concerned about everything being perfect I do see a reason to not buy for either console. If you care that much about this you should probably buy on PC anyway.
