Xbox One Kinect and Gameplay Video (UI stuff)

Not every rumour is true, remember all the downclock talk? It then turns out both the CPU and GPU were actually upclocked.

I expect the dash to be working day one, but it will just like 360 be an evolving project, probably more so this gen than last even.

Are there any more impressions?

lol @ people telling him he's wrong.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Gary says he didn't play Ryse. The problems that were talked about were about snap crashing the console while a game is being played. So no this doesn't exactly address the problems that were talked about.

That said, I feel good about my optimism that the OS will be just fine at launch.

Agreed with all of this.

If every rumor was true, I'd already be playing my PS4.

I should clarify I spent all of 10 minutes with it, mostly just bouncing around the OS and launching stuff. Not a deep dive by any means. But my initial impressions were that navigation is very slick, as is launching in and out of games/apps and the TV integration.

This is good to hear.

Did you use the snap functionality?

Did you actually snap anything? Or just open and close applications?

Oh and was it on a dev kit?

Edit: Also were you navigating by voice or controller? If voice, how snappy was it?

Indications by our "insiders" are that it is a buggy mess. Are you refuting this?

Did you find the jumping from different apps and stuff nice and slick? I am hoping their is little to no lag with swapping things around, kinda like how Win 8.1 feels.

I know there's a slew of questions about to pop up but i'll ask anyways.

When opening more stuff did the console slow down, or still work fine?

Well if you used the snap feature it should of crashed. If it didn't must have been a buggy version you were using.

Good to hear. It certainly look slick as hell.

As I said in Ryse thread, they have two weeks to iron out the code or disable features that are causing problems (Snap etc) with day one patch and fix them later.

You do realize that the rumors about the UI being buggy are about the snap feature, correct?

True, but people have also been calling the demo video they released an outright lie and claimed there is no way it's that smooth. IIRC that didn't even show snap much if at all.

That rumor thread made it seem like the box straight up didn't function.

Show us ONE example of any insider here linking the inability of XB1 to render most gamers at 1080p native with the OS crashing.
They were always two completely separate issues.
That's some really insane amount of revisionist history (for the past few days).

I'm at work Senju, so difficult to post gifs but you sir take the cake for spreading BS.

That is why I asked Gary if he was using voice nav or just the controller. Now if Gary says it is just like the video, then we are on to something.

You will have to learn how to ignore the Chicken Little's if you are going to survive here for the next 2 years.

I have a feeling that the UI will work fine. The UI is handled on the MS side and I highly doubt most devs would really be looking at current UI code.

If the hands-on is happening right now, expect to see some early impressions.

Wouldn't devs want to test snapping while running their games to make sure it won't crash it?

I wonder when the previews start popping up.

I'm a novice on how this happens, but I think the Snap and UI functions are separated from the gaming side of the console so that there won't need to be issues like this. That is why MS built the console they way they did so that the functions could operate separately. Otherwise you could run into issues in testing where you need to snap every second.

Think of it this way, if you are a dev for either console do you want to be forced to download the daily beta updates to check for compliance?

It was a joke.. I mean I put a smiley after it.

I feel like the smiley winky emoticon doesn't mean what it used to mean. It feels like it's now something that you put at the end of a post in order to be smug or sardonic. I'm not complaining about yours specifically, just an observation I'm making.

No, no involvement.

Awww bummer.

Yeah, I don't know how it works either and that is why I brought up what I did. Just have to wait and see.

I really don't care about the rumors. From either camp. They have till Nov 15 and 22nd to sort things out, so until then it's all talk.

Of course, but that is what this place is, a place to talk. And the rumors about the snap function not working properly pre-launch (who knows in 3 weeks) is something to talk about.

Even Cboat agrees with you. Unlike the doomsayers spreading the rumors saying that it will be "months before it's fixed". For all we know, Sony and MS could have their OSes running smoothly day 1.

Wouldn't devs want to test snapping while running their games to make sure it won't crash it?

I doubt this very much. I'd wager they expect the OS to handle all of that. As it should.

Seriously good news. Looks like the worse case scenario is that snap is disabled at launch. Which is so different from "oh gawd sky is falling bones getting delayed" which was in the other thread.

Oh no need to apologize. No, no, no, no. I was just making an observation about ;) in general. No, I wasn't offended by what you posted at all. I was just making an observation and wanted to see if anyone agreed or not.

The buttmad in the description of that Youtube video is pretty hilarious.

"You're not going to grovel in appreciation at this blatantly fake and utterly unproven presentation of the UI? Well fuck you, comments disabled! Also, you all need to grow up!"
